Art Deco 1Hr Custom Framing

I’m really surprised to see all of the positive reviews, because I had… probably the worst customer service experience of my life at Art Deco. If I could give 0 stars, I would. The full tale:
I brought in an original watercolor painting to be framed. The owner was very nice, and I selected a frame, mat, and UV-​protective glass (which he said he’d throw in at a discount). I’d never had anything custom framed, so the price (around $ 200, I think) didn’t seem crazy.
When I returned to pick up my piece, the owner had thrown in a disgusting-​looking, bright orange double mat, which I had NOT picked out, just because he felt like it. In my shock, I took it home, but I hated it so much that I called another framer and asked if he could reframe it. The other framer, upon taking apart my supposedly high-​end, custom frame from Art Deco, discovered that: 1). My original watercolor painting had been attached to the backing (a non-​archival-​quality scrap of foam core) with dirty scotch tape, 2). The materials were NOT acid-​free and would have damaged my painting over time, 3). The glass was NOT UV-​protective, and 4). I had been way, way overcharged given the quality of the job. The framer encouraged me to return to Art Deco and demand a refund.
I went back to Art Deco and asked for a refund, carefully outlining the points above. The owner flew into, well, a rage. He screamed at me for almost an hour. First, he insisted that I was wrong and the materials were of exceptional quality, including the glass. When I proved that I could tell the difference between UV– and non-​UV-​protective glass, he backtracked and said that he never agreed to use UV-​protective glass. When I showed him the scrap of foam core that my painting was (still) taped to (the painting itself also had dirty fingerprints on it), he tried to rip it off, and made fun of me when I (painstakingly) removed the painting from the backing myself (the scotch tape actually tore a bit of the painting). Several times, he said that it was a terrible painting and didn’t «deserve» to be framed well because it «wasn’t Picasso.» He flat-​out refused to give me my money back because it was «custom» (even though it was total bait-​and-​switch and wasn’t what I ordered), told me I should be grateful for what I got, threatened me, and screamed sexist and racist epithets (including that he enjoys overcharging white people and thinks they deserve it, which is why his prices are so high. His words, not mine).
After about an hour of this, he finally agreed to give me my money back and I got out of there. It was a very scary experience. Stay away from this guy.

I use to live in Alexandria… I brought several thangs here for olé boy to fix up… When he was done he put his sticker thang thang on the back… And recently I was hanging dem thangs up and thanking about the best places I have gotten framing business taken care of…
And this place was /​is really, really good. The business we conducted. It’s still holding up real, real good — almost 10 years later.

I’ve had a couple of prints framed here, and am extremely satisfied with the work. The man (I feel awful because I don’t know his name!) is extraordinarily nice and helpful. My first print was a 18“x 35″, and was framed un-​matted with a plain black frame. That was $ 110. I went in to get a second print (22″ x 22″) framed with a brushed metal frame and matting, and that was $ 160. The second time around, he gave me advice on color selection of the matte as to not detract from the artwork, and it came out beautifully. Both times, I came to pick up exactly after 1 week and they both were ready and he wrapped them all up before I took them with me. To be completely honest, after the first time I tried to hunt around groupon/​similar sites for a framing deal. But when I looked at the shops offering those deals, and the reviews, it was clear people were having to pay way more $$$ than I had at Art Deco even with those coupons. I came back here, and I’m glad I did. I’ll definitely be coming in for all future framing. He also has a lot of prints and framed art at the shop for purchase as well. Framing is never cheap, but Art Deco is honest, efficient, and has competitive pricing.

Very nice Store wonderful work

Place has an eclectic selection of prints and framing. Definitely in the spirit of its name. I stumbled across this place after looking for a present in every shop I crossed from the torpedo factory on my way towards the King Street Metro station (incidentally this shop is walking distance from there). The gentleman was enthusiastically helpful and was able to custom frame my selection while I ate dinner at a nearby restaurant. The quality of the work is exceptional, and the customer service was second to none. I highly recommend this shop to anyone who has a Art Deco taste in prints or even just needs something framed (especially if in a hurry).

I went to this store and received excellent customer service. I brought in a frame that I bought at Michaels and asked the owner to put in an acid free matte and backing. He worked on both of the frames I brought in and had them done the next day as promised. He accidentally broke the glass on one frame and replaced it at no charge. I insisted on splitting the cost of the glass but he would not take any money for it. I found him to be friendly and honest. The job he did was excellent and the frame looks great in our house. I would definitely recommend.
