So I finally tried this spot & I really don’t see what all the craving is about… I hear nothing but good reviews about this place but I honestly don’t know what all of its all about… Not impressed at all. I ordered the fish and it tasted like a frozen fish patty… mashed potatoes and gravy taste like boxed potatoes & greens– blahhh… Definitely won’t be coming back here. Only good thing was it was very cheap!

Read reviews before I went. Thought it would be a cool experience to have while visiting va. It was. Fun to order at the window and walk it back to my friend’s place. The chicken was good but nothing to rave about. Green beans from a can and usual mashed potatoes. My friend didn’t care for her greens. Good price for the food. Nice cross between sears cafeteria food and good ol 70s food I had when I was a kid at home.

I grew up eating this type of food. I grew up in Baltimore city. The home of chicken boxes, lake trout drenched in hot sauce and western fries and mamba sauce. So I am so glad I live so close to a spot that serves the type of food you can only find in Baltimore city. The food is served fast. There is a good portion of food per order. I do believe the chicken could have used more seasoning. But that’s easy to fix… Drench your chicken in the hot sauce. I do have to mention that the chicken breast is a bit dry. The white bread that typically lays under the chicken breast is a great nostalgic touch. It’s just like I remember as a child!

Fried chicken with cafeteria quality sides. The chicken was well chosen and decently sized and wasn’t over cooked. I was expecting more spices and flavors, like some family recipe, but the chicken was a little plain which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I was fairly satisfied with my one piece at $ 5.50(with two sides). What really hurts Blue and White are the sides. I understand that their speciality is chicken but the sides were like eating in a cafeteria. My instant mashed potatoes are better, my canned green beans are better, what gives? I didn’t try the collard greens so maybe that’s their side speciality but I was very disappointed that the sides didn’t compliment the chicken. There are only a half dozen sides and I would have preferred even canned bake beans, tub potato salad or coleslaw, or mac and cheese. At this price point I would do just that and maybe add one or two ingredients to each to mask that it is completely bottom shelf. I think I got my $ 5.50’s worth and if you happen to be walking around during lunch(hours are 5:30am-3:00pm) Blue and White isn’t a bad place but I wouldn’t drive across town and I’d be hard pressed to even leave work during my lunch break.

The 1 star is solely based of the bacon egg and cheese sandwich I had there a few months ago. It was the ultimate«basic» version of the sandwich, just the 3 ingredients on plain white bread. Small amount of eggs and bacon as well. Spoiled from waffle house’s bacon egg and cheese sandwiches. why is there no waffle house near DC???

I live in the area. I’m a regular customer & this is my FAVORITE place in the area… hands down! I LOOOOOVE the breakfast sandwiches, the chicken leg sandwiches, the fried bologna sandwiches and the pork chop sandwiches… tastes like back home. The best part though is the staff. They are not only the funniest, but the nicest guys around! If they were open on the weekends, I’d be there too.

Visiting the city, I read Unilocal reviews of the area offerings. This place is not a step above a dive in every aspect except service. Not particularly friendly but polite. I got a breakfast sandwich. It was white bread with an overdone egg, bacon and American«cheese food.» Needless to say, I stopped by Harris Teeter to buy some blueberries & Greek yogurt for tomorrow’s breakfast. I just need edible protein.

Helping are generous and everything’s pretty tasty, especially the fried chicken and scrapple EGG sandwiches. Just need to work on the greens. Canned? Too much vinegar for me.

I wish I could give the Blue & White Carry-out six stars. For starters, this is a classic kind of place you just don’t see in the DC area anymore. A small, cramped space in a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood, the B&W has been around forever. Hopefully it can survive. From the brisk foot traffic today, it seems that it may. I enjoyed a fish sandwich with hot sauce. This was very crisp, without any of the fishy taste you get with lower quality fish sandwiches. As noted by many posters, the hamburger sandwich was also wonderful. The staff at the B&W is very nice, and the clientele quite diverse. There were delivery guys as well as Old Town swells in suits and ties. Everyone enjoys a good meal, and the B&W delivers.

I work in old town and have walked by this place countless times before finally going in for a breakfast sandwich the other day. For $ 3 it was the best bacon, egg, and cheese with tomato sandwich I’ve had in a long time. It’s also very fast, and the second time I went in, the guys already knew what I wanted. I was going to another place just a few steps from my work, but the sandwich wasn’t as good, it took ages to make, and was more expensive. Blue and White is a no brainer. Their menu is small, they don’t have any seating, it’s strictly carry out and cash only, but the rest of the menu looks like they have some good soul food. I definitely plan on going here for lunch one day to get some fried chicken and collards.

It’s good! Service is fast and super friendly. It’s some good chicken. Sides are what you expect. I had the chicken dinner(1 piece, 2 sides &2 pieces of white bread) with S&P and hot sauce. $ 5. I could probably use 2 pieces of chicken for a full meal but no complaints. I’ll be back! Street parking is easy around there and the post office is around the corner. I suppose you could get in that lot also. Eat the chicken quick. I’ve had it a couple times now and the skin quickly loses it’s crispness covered with hot sauce(which I ask for) in that styro. container. Also, it seems like a lot more dark veins and such in the chicken than usual, but honestly I probably don’t eat fried chicken enough to know if it is normal. Just remember it is inexpensive carryout food… I’m sure they’re not buying pasture raised organic chickens! :)

I’m going to be honest with you guys: I grew up in Hawaii. I have had ZERO experience when it comes to Southern food for 20+ years of my life. I used to think KFC was as good as it gets. We were all young and foolish at one point, though, were we not?! Fast forward a bit, and I’ve familiarized myself with«good» «Southern» food. I thought I knew what«good» fried chicken was. I was so wrong. I moved on Madison and I’d pass Blue & White every day on my commute to work. Sometimes, if I was lucky, I’d catch a whiff of its tantalizing aroma as I passed by. I knew I had to try this place sometime soon, but it always closed before I got back from work! After a few not-so-subtle hints to my boyfriend, he stopped by Blue & White at 5AM to get me some chicken for breakfast. I didn’t know what to expect, as I had never seen a menu before. I just always smelled fried chicken. He came back with two chicken sandwiches and, my god, I have never had a better surprise in my life. Two fluffy pieces of white bread… I picked it up and took my monster first bite. I was greeted by a crunchy-soft texture in my mouth. And the flavor… They salt and pepper their bread so you get a punch of seasoning on your tongue with every bite. It’s not overpowering, though, trust me! And I got hot sauce on the chicken, which made it even better.(Tasted like Louisiana Hot Sauce but I’m no hot sauce expert.) At this point, there were permanent finger marks in the white bread where I was gripping the sandwich. I got a little ahead of myself and didn’t realize the piece of chicken was bone-in and I took a big bite. Whatever, I shook it off. Didn’t slow me down. I know I’ll be back. Soon. Every day if I could. The food is so addicting. And the prices make eating there daily a viable option. I’ll definitely be trying the rest of the menu eventually, but the unparalleled deliciousness of the chicken sandwich will have to wear off on me first, and I don’t think that’ll be happening anytime soon.

Blue & White is a literal shack. Patrons go in and order at a plain metal counter, facing a mesh window where the staff circulate. My food got delivered extremely quickly, in less than a minute. I paid cash(they don’t take credit.) The humble surroundings and dirt-low prices made the food twice as good for me. The fried chicken was perfect. Spiced with salt, pepper, and a tangy hot sauce, it was extraordinarily good, hot, and fresh. I devoured my white meat portion in about two minutes while my wife looked on in awe. The mashed potatoes and collard greens were acceptable. Reasonable complements to the meal, but definitely not the highlight. Go here if you focus on unique food that’s fresh-made and tasty. Skip it if frills like décor, service, and ambiance are important to you.

C R A C K Blue & White is just pure crack. Where else can you get an amazing hamburger steak w/extra hot sauce and loveeeee for less than $ 3? Their fish sandwich w/tarter sauce & extra hot sauce is great too. Honestly there really isn’t anything on their money that isn’t beyong tasty and delicious. It’s too bad their not open on weekends and close at 3:30, but they’re open at 5:30am and their breakfast sandwhich is not to be slept on. They’re hours make getting a sandwhich from there like a special treat, especially since I’m a regular now and they’ve perfected my sandwhich to exactly how I like it. Their service is great, food is crack, prices are beyond reasonable and food is ready in less than 10 minutes. Only thing is, they do not accept credit cards and it is carry out only.

I’ve wanted to try Blue and White for awhile. Having always seen it while driving to King Street and learning that it’s only open during normal weekday work hours and that it’s still open and functioning, I thought it either had to be really good or really cheap. Finally a couple of weeks ago, a snow episode caused the government to close and my boyfriend and I were able to come here for lunch. It’s an inconspicuous hole-in-the-wall shack off of Wythe Street near Braddock Road metro station. And apparently it’s been operating for more than 40 years, dishing out huge portions of Southern comfort good. When I walked in, I noticed worn counters and a single-file passageway to order and pay. However, the good food and witty enthusiasm of those working behind the counter are what keeps people coming back for more. The gentlemen behind the counter traded humorous and witty remarks with us as they prepared the food. I asked for a chicken leg/thigh with two sides of mashed potatoes. When one of them asked if I wanted salt and pepper on my mashed potatoes and spicy sauce on my chicken, I said yes and he said, «Oh yeah, the works! That’s what I’m talking about.» Very enthusiastic and easily loves his job. I love it. HUGE portion of chicken that was very tasty. Mashed potatoes were good as well. Best of all, besides the delicious comfort food and great sense of humor from the employees, was the price. All menu items are less than $ 5, including hefty dinner combos that include a choice of two Southern sides. Our order came out to be $ 9. My boyfriend even ordered two chicken legs and a side and it was the same price as mine. What a deal! Next time there’s a snow day, I’m coming back.

Blue and White Carry-Out by definition is a dive, but It is definitely one that should be on your list, For years I have driven past the small, quirky looking take out stand but no more. I ordered a egg and bacon breakfast sandwich made even more delicious with hot melted cheese. The sandwich’s cheese oozed between the egg and bacon to make for the perfect breakfast bite. I have since had the fried chicken, and its crispy. golden skin coupled with its juicy meat embodies southern cooking. Another thing is this spot’s favor is how inexpensive everything is here. At times I felt as if I were stealing, with prices under $ 3 per item. Blue & White Carry-out harkens back to a simpler time when low prices and quality food came with slice of charm. On my last visit, I was looking at the menu and commented on the fact that they had fried chicken livers. The man behind the screen-enclosed counter smiled with pride that chicken livers were only served on Tuesdays. Ok, I thought, poor man’s pâté on Tuesdays it is. I guess that sums up the Blue & White, a place that takes pride in its simple but very delicious fare.

I should’ve known«Southern» food in Old Town couldn’t be trusted but the Unilocal reviews baited me there — let this be a lesson for those Unilocalers who want to take a chance on this place — DON’T. The prices are cheap but so is the food. Under-seasoned chicken, depressingly bland collard greens, instant mash potatoes(which sadly was the best tasting thing in my box), and canned corn. All this with a side of two slices of bread? As if ordering between plexiglass like restaurant jail wasn’t enough, they only accept cash! What I didn’t finish went in the trash — along with my money I suppose. Blue & White made me see red.

for an old corner«carry out» this place rocks! the food is inexpensive. opens at the butt crack of dawn and closes right when rush hour is about to begin. Mon-Fri only. I think the specialty is the FRIEDCHICKEN! I don’t think — I know this. They are serving fried chicken at 5AM in the morning! Love this place. They get you in and out very fast — so you’d better know what you want before you walk up in there. Monday when I went I had a bacon & egg sandwich on toast. It was filled with lots of crispy bacon. Yummy yum yum

If you read my reviews, you’ll probably notice my love of hole in the walls. This place does it for me. I was not initially intrigued until I passed by the inconspicuous location around lunch time to see a long line of people waiting to get a taste of their famous chicken. I came back again ready to order, only to find out that they only accept cash. darn, I had to return… my journey continues. I finally came back a few days later prepared, armed with cash and ready to order. I had the mashed potatoes, collard greens, and fried chicken and paid something around $ 4.00.(A FOURDOLLARFULLMEAL? INOLDTOWN? YOUGOTTABEKIDDINGME! WHAT A STEAL) The chicken was crispy, the gravy was just right, and the veggies were yummy. I was a pleased customer and I’ve since become one of the many regulars.
