It is nice to take a break and view the creative ideas of artists and craftsman. I got a few chuckles from the powder cases being repurposed as miniature different scenarios(a golf course) I also admired the various xmas stockings in different patterns and shoe types.

I went to Del Ray Artisans to drop off artwork for an open(non-member) art show on 4÷26÷15. Although, my art work was not accepted for the show; I had a positive experience working with the group. The group seemed to be(during the drop off) a nice mix between professional and amateur(hobbyist) artists. I learned that I could join Del Ray Artisans for a yearly annual fee that is under $ 100.00. The annual fee would allow me to participate(i.e. submit pieces for review in a show) in most of their monthly shows. I actually didn’t mind their requirements(think it a nice way to «force» networking on people and keep the organization running) if you have a piece(s) selected for a show you are required to volunteer at either the Friday opening night reception(open to the public for free) and/or during gallery hours(which is also free to the public). If you’re looking for something to do in Del Ray anyone can walk into the gallery and take a look at the current show on Thursdays & Sundays: 12:00PM– 6:00PM, Fridays & Saturdays: 12:00PM — 9:00PM. I plan on stopping by as an after lunch or dinner activity next time I am in Del Ray. The gallery space itself is relatively small however with space at a premium in Del Ray it is nice to see any type of space dedicate to promoting art at all. I could also see it as a relatively inexpensive date night when combined with one of the great restaurants in the area. As other Unilocalers have mentioned, Del Ray Artisans offers one off classes with instructors who are artists with annual memberships and/or other professional accolades like owning a business involved in art. I think. The price for these classes might be a little over priced but it wouldn’t stop me from taking one if it worked with my schedule. I am sure in the fee for the class you’re supporting the group in some way(and anything that promotes a healthy art community I am into).

Del Ray Artisans is a great introduction to art for all ages. They are community and non-profit community arts organization. Since the Del Ray Artisans’ bulding is located in the middle of the business district, there has been at least 2 or 3 other people browing through. This place offers a wide variety of classes like stenciling, fabric making, decorative painting, mosaics and tile making. In the summer there is an arts camp for kids. Every month there’s an exhibit — of which my favorite is called the«Offbeat Auction Gala.» The Gala is held every December. What happens is that artists are given a piece of furniture, and they — in turn– create a piece of art out of it. At the auction these pieces are won byhighest bidder.
