The Alexandria location is now closed. No great loss — the place had gone way downhill, particularly in service and cleanliness.

Decent place. Cool atmosphere for the kiddies and the adults without kids too. The taco pizza was a winner that my husband had but the selection I made which was white pizza was not that great. It was a little on the dry side. The portions are huge. A personal pizza would have easily fed me and hubby. Drinks are served in little pitchers which adds to the quirky environment.

Excitement. This is the boyhood home of George who expanded his business from a takeout, one room at a time until the whole house was a restaurant. Get the pasta pie!!! Don’t get the pizza or you will have a 2 star experience. It’s sounds crazy but it isn’t. Various pastas on top of what seems to be Bombolli bread. One serving will easily feed two people. or 4 children. The old house has old bikes, paint squirted on weird shaped pieces of plywood and various paraphernalia hanging all about. Great place for kids. Any pasta pie will do. George is very generous.

There is nothing small sized at this place(surprise given the name). Drinks come in small pitchers(at least they give you a straw so you do not feel too neaderthal). The«personal» size can feed 2 adults easy. I liked the taco cha cha pizza. So did my wife, who ordered poorly and ate a slice of my pizza(still took 1 ½ slices home). She got the white pizza and neither of us liked it. Inside is fun for families and the music is good for adults to drown out their or other children.

For some reason I thought of Curious George when I heard about this place. Ordered about 10 pizzas for a staff meeting and the service was great. They were friendly and made sure I had everything I needed from plates, forks to salad dressing packed in little kiddie cups(made me laugh). I had heard that the pizza was good, but I though yeah sure. it’s just pizza, but I must say that the pizza was really good. It is a thicker crust and chewy, my fave. I haven’t dined here yet, but it seems like a good family spot, can picture a lot of kids running around and screaming. It looks a little tacky with the colors and décor, but hey. we’re not judging the interior design, it’s the food that matters. Will definitely go back.

Five stars might be a little much but I really do like it here. The atmosphere is unique. I don’t mind the old dusty bikes and wagons hanging from the ceiling. I had an extra special night when there was a birthday party and a clown was there making balloon animals(he’s was actually pretty good… I was bummed I didn’t get one) Being from NY I tend the be a pizza snob, but the personal pizzas at G.G.‘s are pretty good(they can be a little greasy at times). The beers come in 32 ounce schooners. Have someone else drive if you plan to have one. Don’t go there if you don’t like children, parties, clowns, balloon animals, tie-dye, or pizza. make sure you give the life-sized Mickey Mouse a high five when you walk in!

I used to come here all the time but had not been in a while so last night when a friend and I decided to go out and get something eat I thought it was time to go here again. The place has had some renovations but its pretty much as I remember it. With a place this size I am not a fan of seat yourself. It worked out fine for us but as it wasn’t crowded but I could se how it may become a problem when it does get crowded. Hopefully they were only doing this as it was a Wednesday night. The pizza was not what I remembered. The crust was the same but the amount of ingredients were less then they had been before. The thick chewy crust was great when it had a ton of toppings but with the amount of toppings we had the crust over powered them. Its not that there were not a good portion of toppings just not the amount they use to put on. The service was good at first but started to slack off once he brought our bill. He brought it too soon and then left it along with a box for our pizza as if he was saying«ok go home now». I give the place three stars because I do like the pie and I love that the place is a family restaurant. If it had been any other place I may have given it two and a half stars.

After passing by this place the last 10 years of my youth, starving of hunger and finding nothing interesting near old town led us here. Pizza was off the hook, love it. just got cheese w/jalapenos and my best bud got steak and cheese, which was off the hook. we told our waiter Eduardo it was our first time and he made good suggestions, he was actually really really nice. thanks eduardo! Will be going back soon :]

It’s really a 3.5, but I’ll round up here. This is a good solid place and very consistent, at least in my opinion. It’s mainly a pizza place but they’ve got some pastas too, although I’ve never had it as I’m after the pizza when I visit. The pizza has a big crust tasty crush, but if you don’t like crust it’ll just be a waste. Tasty sauce, good cheese and they’re not stingy with the toppings. Yes it does look like something from the the mid 80’s in what you’d expect a beach side tourist trap to look like, but it adds some to the charm. Thankfully they try to keep the birthday parties out of the main area so you can deal with minimal family/kid time. Some cons: It’s a tad on the expensive side for pizza(–1 star), the service can be a bit slow and it’s clearly aimed a families(–½ star combo). If you are a kid though, and yay for reading, you can get balloons there.

What? Some people actually like it here? We came here once(that was enough) back in the mid-nineties and it was like eating in a circus. There were children’s birthday parties and crowds and tantrums and screaming. And by the time we actually got our actual pizza it was pretty MEH. Maybe 2 – 3 stars tops. The atmosphere knocks those stars right off. The pasta dishes people ordered(we only had pizza — no pasta) looked good enough and they were, indeed, huge portions. Not for me. Sorry.

Generous George’s for the young and young at heart! And also those who like a crap ton of food, don’t mind an abundance of children of varying ages and emotional states, and have a propensity for small plastic toys you buy for a quarter from vending machines. It’s also a pretty good place to go eat if you are going to the Hoffmans AMC movie theatre in Alexandria but make sure you have at least an hour if you are going before a movie. Also parking is a pain in the butt, I suggest going down the street along the side of the restaurant and parking in the back parking lot or on the street. My husband and I almost always get a sausage(everything spicy is nicey!) and green pepper pizza which is awesome. The pasta pies are enormous(mmm carb overload!) and I too love drinks that come in pitchers. A long time ago they used to serve giant blue«margaritas»(ok so they were a bit more like alcoholic blue fruit punch) that I still get misty-eyed just thinking about(who doesn’t love electric blue drinks? WHO?). The décor is hilarious and over the top and it makes me feel good just seeing the hideously flamingo pink building from the road. I tell everyone proudly right now that my husband and I got married there in a sneak attack style wedding a few years ago and everything was perfect, so having a party there is pretty awesome and they are very accommodating to large groups of people of any age. Generous George’s, I *heart* you even though my father-in-law told me it was only a place where third graders have their birthday parties.

Whenever I’m in the area(about once or twice a year), I always have to head to generous George’s. The name of place say sit all. their unique pasta pie dishes are very large. Its basically a pizza shell topped with your choice of pasta. I always have left overs for the train ride back to NYC. The pitcher sized personal drinks are an added bonus.(its the only size they have), as well as the the pink and blue walls and the childrens toys and other items hanging from the ceiling.

I’ll never come back here. That’s what I say/think every single time I go to Generous George’s. Somehow, by hook or by crook, I always return – and I always regret it. The best thing is the pitcher-sized sodas. The worst thing is the service. Yesterday, however, the absolute worst part was my mong decision to go here while suffering through a hangover. It’s really just a stone’s throw from Chuck E Cheese’s, kid-wise. That’s my own fault, but listening to a chorus of screaming babies while your brain is doing somersaults is a pretty good recipe for swearing off ever bearing children. The food is mediocre. I ordered a large supreme and it was f***ing $ 30. I hadn’t eaten all day, neither had my friend, and we ordered the fried mushrooms just to have something greasy to scarf down while waiting for the main event, which from past experience I knew would be at least 30 minutes. Our server looked about 13 and stoned. She took our order, then 30 minutes later some other guy brought the pizza. We asked, «Is the rest coming?»(my friend also ordered a pasta pie, and the mushrooms never arrived). Him: «Um, yeahhh?» Paramore stoner girl came back and said, «Ummm, what did you order?» I looked at her in disbelief and the she apologized and looked at my friend and said«OK, what did YOU order?» It was so unacceptable it was funny. When we got the check, we gave PSG two cards to split the bill. I explained to put this on that card, that on the other. She came back 15MINUTESLATER and asked, «What goes on what again?» I could rage on, but I think the 92-cent tip did the talking.

OK, I guess I’m the only Unilocaler who hates this place. My husband and I tried this place a few years ago and weren’t impressed and have steered clear since. However, because it was a friend’s kid’s 1st birthday, we agreed to meet up here. Uh, I have nothing but bad things to say about this place. I had the lasagna which was COLD in the middle. Had it been just the hubby and me, I would have sent it back, but we were with a group and I didn’t want to be a diva, so I kept quiet. But cold lasagna? That just shows lack of caring from the kitchen. My husband’s pizza was ok, but nothing great(and even bad pizza is still pizza!). There are just too many good pizza and pasta joints in the area to ever waste calories on this place. From the pepto-pink walls to the noise to the disgusting food, I have to say I won’t be back. Even for that kid’s 2nd birthday, so just don’t ask me to!

Yet another spot I head to for lunch, only because people are willing to drive me there. The place is GREAT for kids. They love the décor which is a random mix of colorful items. The food I’ve tried(different pizzas, pastas, subs) is OK by fast food standards. If you’re like some of my co-workers and simply want huge amounts of food for a small amount of money, this place is for you. Each pizza and pasta dish can feed two people easily. DId I mention that the pasta dishes actually come ON a pizza crust with some cheese on it?! It’s funny to see newbies get their meals, since their eyes inevitably widen in disbelief. Oh yeah, your drinks come in miniature pitchers the size of my head — OK, they’re not THAT big. It’s still a place I think you should experience once, preferably with a kid, so at least one person will LOVE it.

3.5 stars G2P4 is not the pinnacle of culinary perfection, but rather a celebration of flamboyance and excess. I used to come here a lot when I lived in Alexandria, but hadn’t been for several years until recently. It’s always had a place in my heart for being so weird and random and my recent return has only reaffirmed that feeling. I love that I can get a giant ogre goblet of beer for $ 7. I love that they serve all their drinks in small pitchers. I love that they sell a gratuitous carb feast of «pasta pies» where the fill a pizza shell with a pasta dish. On the other hand, nothing is particularly outstanding. The quality is average to maybe a tad above average. The pizzas are probably the main highlight. It’s more of a «wow, look what I can get» sort of indulgence than a way to savor the finer things in life. Perhaps these random combinations are what make it fun, and draw kids to this place. There’s something very odd about seeing adults in a pink restaurant, guarded by two giant toy soldiers, and ordering goblets of beer while being directly adjacent to a party of squealing children. It’s an odd place, but I love it.

These are dark, pessimistic times we live in. If paranoia doesn’t get us first, then hate will. Where to turn for solace and redemption, then? Where indeed? Thank God for safe harbors of positivity and optimism like Generous George’s. Generosity, good will to your fellow man, and hope — this is what you will find in this beatific oasis, a cathedral of kitsch and good karma. You will find pizzas the size of a tire. And not just any tire, but like a monster truck tire. Gravedigger’s tire. Hmmm… that’s gloomy and not positive, grave digging. No one wants to think of the grave and death and the afterlife while eating pizza, let alone positive pizza. But if you are a good doobie, and go to heaven, it may actually look something like Generous George’s. And yes, the pizzas are generous — generously sized, and generously portioned, and generously cooked. This makes me happy. Also, the delight and joy on my fellow diners’ faces as they too are infected with generous portions of positivity, and cheese, dough, sauce and toppings — this delight makes me happy. That, and there seems to be at least twenty birthday parties here at any given time, on any given day. Seriously — I can’t remember a time I was here when more than 10 minutes went by without the staff swarming some table with a generous rendition of Happy Birthday. Generous George, you very much succeed at life!

I just went here for my daughter’s birthday. I’d driven by a few times and then read the other reviews and thought it would be a good spot for a kid’s birthday. Turns out I was right. The pizza was impressive, not necessarily the best I’ve ever had, but well above average. In fact, I would place the quality of the pizza above Zpizza across the street. They also make pasta dishes they serve on a pizza crust. It was a good idea. A little high on the carbs, but the kids liked it. We had excellent service. Based on the reviews, I was quite happily surprised. The waiter was not a teenager, but seemed like he had experience as a waiter and at dealing with families. They sang Happy Birthday for my daughter and gave her a free ice cream. I thought that was a nice touch. On the décor, I could see adults not liking it, though I thought it was appropriate for the place. It’s certainly not a place to go for an adult date. I could see going here though even without kids, for lunch or even for a casual dinner. We will definitely be back… I’ve got another daughter with a birthday in four days.

KIDS, KIDS, KIDS! Yep, they got them there! Okie, I gave them an extra star — the pizza is okie, the kids will love the place, but they serve 32 ounce beers! I saw lots of parents there last Friday with their kids, and enjoying Scooner sized beers. I can’t say as I blame them one bit. I had a regular Sierra Nevada, and it was good. The pizza we had was vegetarian, and the toppings were fresh and the sauce had a nice sweet taste to it, and the thin crust nicely risen. The 40+ kids that were there on a Friday night seemed to really enjoy the place, and the garish colors and style on the walls. I’ve seen a lot worse, and they have it set to clean up spills any of the kids make. And while loud, my wife and I survived it — eardrums intact. What? … What… Oh… nah, it’s really not that bad. Anyway, large 20+” pizza with lots of toppings, a beer and a soft drink… $ 30, and we brought ½ the pizza back. We’ll be back… with or without a kid. Maybe I can rent one… Oh, and on Mondays Kids eat free! Go George!

Generous George’s recently spend a huge amount of money to do a renovation to both the interior and exterior of their restaurant… and I’m not sure that it helped very much. Don’t get me wrong, I get that this place is supposed to be friendly and fun for kids but seriously could you tone down the pepto bismal pink and the scary antiques? I would rather get take out than sit in the restaurant and look at freaky clowns… I have no beef with the food– its actually good. With the«generous» portions of pizza, pasta and calzones you definitely won’t be hungry when you leave here. Plus they put your drink in mason jars so you won’t ever need a refill. **Quick note** I recently read in the newspaper that after years and years of being a unique Alexandria hot spot Generous Georges is planning to expand via franchising. 11 units have already been sold around the metro DC area and GG plans to expand to as many as 50 units in the future.
