Good tex mex! Salsa is good and fresh. Chorizo quesidilla is good. They have trivia night, bingo night and karoke night. Good music and friendly atmosphere. Specials, and descent prices. I almost gave 4 stars!

This place is a typical modern Americanized Mexican restaurant. Although it had some high points. Their salsa for their chips was the chuncky kind which I loved. You have to order their CHORIZOCHEESEDIP on the side, that was«da BOMB». We ended up putting that on everything, including our main meals. I ordered the Arroz Con Pollo since I was craving chicken with lots of veggies. The pineapple, red peppers and zucchini satisfied my cravings. The flavor was really good and I would have this dish again when I come. Again, topping that off with the CHORIZO cheese dip perfected the dish.

I cannot stop thinking about their chicken chimichangas! Most of this review is specifically for that dish since it has repeatedly left such a good impression on me. Fried to perfection with a perfect balance of chewy and crunchy on the outside, the shredded chicken filling hits it out of the park and the whole dish is topped with their divine queso sauce. Ordering the the combination dinner(you can get three of the chimichangas! or mix and match), it’s not too heavy of a meal yet perfectly filling — absolutely my new go-to! I’ve also had the chicken quesadillas and fajitas, both of which were not bad, but really just made me wish I had more chimichangas. The service is great, too, with someone always coming by when you’re starting to get low on chips or salsa at the table(which they serve you as soon as you sit down). We went to Wednesday night bingo for the first time this week which was also a lot of fun!

Like other reviewers have said, the food is ok, standard tex mex, nothing particularly special or knock your socks off. They do, however, have efficient and friendly service and pretty good specials. Their Trivia on Tuesday nights is also pretty fun… but get there early to get a table.

I always enjoy eating here because the food is good, but the frozen margarita is too sweet!!!

Attention Unilocalers! If you never read one of my reviews before, read this one! This monstrosity of a work lunch took place at Los Toltecos located at 4111 Duke St, Alexandria, VA22314. Yes, I did provide you with the entire address, so there’s no confusion. Walking in, I was not greeted by the host and had to seat myself. Nonetheless, the service started out«…meh ok.» The server came out after about 8 – 10 minutes, placed salsa and chips on the table, and asked for our drink order. After she returned, she asked about appetizers. During this transaction, I discovered a table placard which stated«Free Appetizer(up to $ 10) if you download the store’s phone app.» Francisca, the waitress, stated that in order to obtain this deal; you are required to scan the bar code, download the phone app, and select the Alexandria’s location. Before committing this extra/unnecessary app to my phone’s memory, I specifically asked Francisca about the printed deal to make sure that I completely understood the requirements. She confirmed my assumptions and then placed my order. I ordered the queso dip(very very mediocre, tasted like melted government cheese… in my opinion). The appetizer came out only 2 minutes before our main dish(super annoying)! Before I asked for my check, I reminded Francisca of the appetizer deal to avoid complications at the register. I provided her with my phone and THISISWHERETHEISSUEBEGINS! The phone app showed an error message repeatedly. Francisca stated that the deal must specifically appear in the«deals» section or «coupon» section of the phone app. After back and forth, I asked to speak to the manager or «so he called himself a manager». I explained the scenario. Immediately, he stated that he’s sorry but he would not honor the deal(which is printed on a placard on my lunch table) due to their app’s error. Falsehoods, Fantasies, and Fairytales! Further, he stated that he experienced issues with the phone app previously and he is not allowed to honor the deal because it was a promotion from another company. **REDFLAG**((If you have experienced issues of a similar nature before from different customers, then apparently the issue with the phone apps… NOTTHECUSTOMERS)) I asked him, who told you not to honor his coupon. I was not impressed by his response. Immediately, I knew that he was NOT the manager. There had to be someone with sense with a higher rank. Anywho… You guys know me; I asked to speak to his manager. He told me that he would not give me the number and I would have to walk to the door and read the sign to get the contact information. Whoa! It’s not only in bad taste to physically see and hear your employee provide instruction to receive the appetizer, but to also haggle over $ 7 and be rude… SHEESH. A smart business person would rather lose $ 7 then to receive a negative rating especially when a customer, like ME, with over 3,000 friends on Facebook alone.((BADBUSINESSMOVE)). To add insult to injury, this«manager» began insinuating that I am trying to take advantage and attacking my character. He stated that I had probably been there before and trying to get a free meal. Man… It took everything that beat holy inside not go revert back to Monroe Shawn. Immediately, I escalated the situation to another manager in the Sterling location that completely agreed with my position. All of this for a mere $ 7!!! Oh… I got the discount then. I will NEVEREVEREVER return to this location, business, or franchise. The food was mediocre, I think Taco Bell is better. The queso needed some other ingredient… peppers or onion or cilantro… or something. The seafood burrito that I ordered looked more like an enchilada. It was small and smothered with a tomato and cheese sauce. The tortilla chips were overcooked. They tasted recycled or «warmed» up. I highly disapprove. To sum this up, HORRIBLE!

My first time here was nothing short of disappointing. To start off the Margherita tasted like liquid diabetes. The tortilla chips were flavorless, and that Pace picante sauce that they call salsa should be am embarrassment to any food establishment. I thought the fajitas were supposed to come out sizzling, but they came out warm and were tasteless, overcooked, and dry. I added so much salt to the meat to give it flavor, I’m now considered a hypertensive, to go along with my diabetes that I’ve gotten from the Margheritas To sum it all up, this dining experience was nothing short of a vascular disaster waiting to happen.

I eaten here twice, and the food is pretty good. I had pretty low expectations for finding really good Mexican food up North, as there is a great selection where I’m from and my fiancé is from Texas. However, this is place exceeded my expectations. I had the enchilada platter and the chorizo bean dip the first time I went. The enchiladas were good, but the chori-bean dip is AMAZING. I went back a couple weeks later and got just the dip to go. Will definitely go back!

You know that show The Best Thing I Ever Ate? If I was on that show I would seriously consider describing the Potato and Cheese Chimichanga. It is absolutely serious comfort food. It will warm your soul, if you believe in that sort of thing. Ah! It’s so good. Try it.

Solid option for Mexican food on the West End of Alexandria. It hasn’t changed a bunch in the several years it has been since I lived down the street. I’d say that the food is a touch above your typical Mexican dive with similar prices and very friendly staff. The atmosphere is pretty nice actually, and they seem to keep the place pretty clean. It’s an easy place to dine solo, as there are plenty of others at the bar who are friendly. There are several TVs at the bar and on the night I went they had Bingo. I thought they put too much ice in my margarita, and it was pricy for the actual amount of alcohol in there.

Food is decent, with decent prices. It is a wonderful diversity. I love the friendly fun atmosphere there. Service was nice, quick, and professional. The food didn’t rock my world, but everything else is good.

Good but not excellent is how I’d categorize Los Toltecos. Overall the food was decent and the service was good, mostly because the servers were attentive during the bingo night when we showed up. Easily the highlight of the night was the table salsa. One of the things I really rate a Mexican restaurant on is the house salsa and this one was a cut above. Fresh cilantro and a perfect amount of bite. Our menu items that we ordered were good, but nothing to rave about. A highlight of this location is that they have bingo, trivia and karaōke on different nights of the week. It can get a bit loud during those times. Also the décor is a little kitschy with a lot of bright colors and overtly Mexican decorations.

This place is near my friend’s apartment. We had some friends come in town so we all went there at his urging(«This place is pretty good!»). I got the taco bowl salad. It was really good I agree with his assessment. Everyone who got drinks said they were well prepared as well. This is a short review because there’s not a lot else to say about the place. Go there and get some mexican!

Great food, great service, fun experience. If you want fancy, this isn’t your place. If you want no-frills, old-fashioned tex-mex with the best cheese dip in the DC area, come here! The negative reviews on here are negative-nancy’s. Ain’t nobody got time for that!

Los Toltecos receives these 3 stars based on outstanding customer service, very attentive wait staff, clean venue/bathrooms, delicious drinks and some fun karaōke… did anyone else notice that I failed to mention their food??? Aaaagggg, allow me tell my tale. This little venue was not hard to find(note that parking is free, but limited). The co-workers and I usually pick a different eatery – a different type of cuisine – if you will, to visit & catch up once a month. One of my coworkers, who’s Mexican-American, made a sidebar remark that Los Toltecos’ food wasn’t really authentic. Clue #1, if a native says that… RUNNNNN. I was warned. We all arrive… our area is setup, waitress is rockin’, drinks are flowing & the atmosphere is lively. The food though… not so much. Clue #2 was the bland, very bland guacamole!!! I can make fresher, better-tasting guac than what these jokers placed in front of me. Ughh. The seafood dish I ordered(Veracruz Parrillada) was so «not good». I know, I know, you don’t go to a Mexican restaurant and order seafood… but I thought heck, they couldn’t even get the guac right, surely they can’t screw up some fish, scallops and shrimp. Yet, it happened. I ended up eating that sometimes random side plate w/the lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, rice & refried beans. I was so upset… and hungry. Karoake was fun though – you can tell they’ve invested quite the pretty penny in the system. But listen, with all the positive attributes this venue has, they will lose business if the food isn’t good. I’ve had better, much better. Probably won’t give it another go.

A good mexican restaurant, but nothing super authentic. Had margaritas on happy hour — cannot complain about that. The food selection is basically fajitas and enchiladas — I wouldn’t consider it super authentic mexican food, but it will do the trick for DC. Chips and salsa are a must. I used the hot sauce on my pablano enchilada and was not a fan, this was a bit of a let down but I am accustomed to California mexican food. No wait on a Monday evening, the service wasn’t particularly attentive for the lack of crowd inside. Fair portions and they will bring more chips when asked. Didn’t feel that anything was overly delicious or fresh.

Nothing beats a big plate of yummy cheesy Mexican goodness that comes out quickly. That’s what Los Toltecos is. Every time. Not sure what the negative reviewers were expecting. Ambiance? Fancy presentation? Oh well, more saucy cheesy goodness for me.

Did not satisfy my craving for authentic Mexican food. I ordered chiles rellenos and got a pepper wrapped in a tortilla stuffed with what tasted like cheese whiz. Definitely not going back again. I also tried the chicken flauta. That was pretty good. But not good enough to bring me back.

We made a to-go order in the restaurant. Service was quick. Drinks while waiting(margaritas) were strong and delicious. We split the enchiladas supreme that comes with refried beans and rice. Chips and house salsa also come with every order. Salsa good but not hot enough for my liking. Enchiladas supreme just okay. They all tasted the same yet there was supposed to be four different types of enchiladas. We went on a Wednesday night when they have bingo night. Seemed fun and that most of the patrons were playing. Not sure if there are real prizes but what a good distraction during dinner.
