I ordered delivery and the food was amazing! I would have given a 5 except that they didn’t provide utensils with the delivery. The food came very quickly and that was solid too!

Great tasty food at a reasonable price, one of our favorite restaurants — we keep coming back. Their Chicken Pizziola is awesome(but so is their Chicken Francese & Chicken Marsala etc). And ask Julian to fix you a Dirty Martini… yeah…

Good pizza, but a very long wait even though there was no one in the restaurant. A little expensive.

There were 2 locations of this restaurant. The one they closed in North Arlington by the Courthouse then in Ballston was the best in my opinion. I had been going there since I was a child! Always had great service and food always delicious. The food here is great as well. I love the pasta and pizza! However, the service at this particular location isn’t as attentive or as courteous as the North Arlington location was.

The food was good. House dressing for the salad was great. The décor looked in need of a Gordon Ramsey takeover though. Waiter was good to check on allergy items for me.

Tried to eat here on a Wednesday night. Waited 15 minutes for a menu. The room was full, but only two servers — both of them DEEP in the weeds. Left before anyone ever approached my table. Staff appropriately friends, otherwise people walk out and write these reviews.

I’ve liked all of my meals here. But I’ve only eaten on site twice, mostly I take out. The ambience/décor isn’t impressive or charming. It’s very old, clearly been around awhile. Staff is ok. They’ve got some regular alcoholic barflies hanging around every night I stop by for takeout. But The food is good, and the prices are incredibly reasonable in comparison to other Italian restaurants on King Street. Great place to pick up food, not the best or special, or romantic date night location.

What a walk back in time. I thought I was back in 1959. The décor and ambiance was a throw back. The fact that nothing has been done on the interior makes for very reasonable prices on all good and drink! The ravioli was cooked to perfection and desert was right out of Italy. If you like down to earth, authentic food with reasonable prices this is your place.

This would be our #1 go-to Italian restaurant. Inexpensive, really good food — just what we want when we want Italian. Lots of selections on the menu, but I go for the fettuccini florence(vegetables in cream AND marinara sauce with shrimp) nearly every time. Or the lasagna — truly what lasagna should be. House wine comes from a box but I don’t care. Parking in midtown Old Town is always an issue but the restaurant has a small private lot in back that sometimes has space. Service is good.

Not much in terms of décor or ambiance but the food is awesome. Had a delicious bowl of minestrone on a rainy and cold night and it hit the stop. Eggplant lasagna was also very tasty and it went well with the house chianti. Service is attentive enough. This place is not pretentious and reasonably priced for what it is: a local hangout.

An excellent Italian restaurant. I really enjoyed my chicken parmigiana for lunch, both the food, service, and ambiance. Excellent choice and place to eat. Solid 4 star.

Utterly disappointing. Food was bland, but the service was mediocre, and the drinks were meh. I mean, if I’m at an Italian restaurant, even a trattoria, and you have a full bar, the bartender/server should not have to look up how to make a standard Italian drink like a Negroni. Nor should the servers and bartender(and cook who came out to talk with them) all talk about how no one who works there is Italian… kinda ruins the intended ambiance…

What a great restaurant! Excellent food In a relaxed atmosphere. The veal was perfect. I love fried calamari and fried zucchini, this is the first place I ever saw them combined in one appetizer.

First time visiting Alexandria. Stayed at Morrison House, easy walking distance to this little Italian restaurant. In four nights, ate twice at Pines of Florence. Both week nights, so less people. Excellent food. Baked Ziti first night. Chicken Tetrazzini second night(made a bit spicy by my request… loved it). But everything was good… wine, caesar salad, cheese cake, bread. Reasonably priced and every enjoyable.

A Little of Florence in Alexandria. My wife and I recently visited Alexandra and were craving a good authentic Italian café. Our hotel recommended a nearby place that we looked at its menu and weren’t impressed. We continued walking on King at and stumbled upon this place. We decided to give it a try. From the moment we entered the place Johnny warmly welcomed us. He mentioned the daily specials. Our entrees exceeded our expectations. I would highly recommend this place to anyone seeking authentic Italian food in a warm environment.

Great neighborhood place. Italian sausage was very good, meatballs were ok. The veal had a good flavor but tough parts. All in all we left full & satisfied

A friend and I decided to give this place a try. We were both pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and price. This restaurant is not as flashy as some of the other spots on King Street. My friend actually like the sauce, which is impressive because she usually only likes her mom’s sauce. I had the vegetable lasagna… delicious! I took my father and aunt here when they visited. I ordered the vegetable lasagna again because it’s that good. My Italian father and aunt were also pleased with their meals.

I ordered carry out while in the area for work. My order was ready when I arrived and staff was very friendly. It is an older restaurant with a very traditional feel and décor from what I noticed when I was picking up my order. The spinach manicotti was very tasty and came with a side of bread. I also ordered the tiramisu which I enjoyed as well. Both were good size portions and I was more than satisfied.

The food was great! Much better then I expected after reading so many negative reviews. I got the gnocchi marinara while my mom got the spinach rigatoni and her friend got the vegetable lasagna. All dishes were fresh and delicious. I could tell the dishes were made to order because the waiter was very willing to make any changes even to the lasagna(usually premade in most restaurants). All were served piping hot. The sauce for the gnocchi was awesome. The gnocchi itself was a bit dense for my taste but overall not bad! We asked them to add some extra spice to all dishes and they did a great job. While the food is great the actual restaurant is very old. When you walk in you immediately notice a musty smell. I believe the air conditioning was not working well as it was a bit warm inside. Décor and menus all look outdated and with the slight odor we were almost ready to leave. I’m glad we stayed because the quality of the food was a nice surprise. With a few renovations and a new air conditioning system this place would definitely get 5 stars.

We went last Friday for an early dinner(5pm). We had seen it walking up and down King Street and thought it looked quaint so decided to finally try it. Indeed, the interior was quaint and cute. It felt like they were trying to be upscale but weren’t really pulling it off but we thought that was sweet. We had calamari as an appetizer which was mediocre, average at best. Then we seemed to have been forgotten because 50 minutes later our waitress came to assure us our food was coming soon. I had the spaghetti with meat sauce and mushrooms which was pretty standard Italian Restaurant fair. It was good, but nothing too impressive. My fiancé’s Shrimp Fra Diavlo was the saving grace in this review because he loved it. Overall the service left something to be desired, and the food was a bit too hit-or-miss for me to be brave enough to try again anytime soon.

I was watching a documentary on Frank Sinatra when the craving hit me. I needed Italian food in the worst way. I craved something other than pizza, for pasta and chicken parmigiana were singing my song. Now, I haven’t ordered from Pines of Florence in years, but I saw that they had delivery and I decided to give them another try. And 30 minutes later it was just me, Old Blue Eyes, and some delicious parmigiana. The whole meal was more than perfect and went very nicely with Frank singing, «I did it my way» This is old school Italian food, and I am glad that I rediscovered Pines of Florence. This makes for a nice change of pace in my foodie delivery world. I did think my order could have had a bit more cheese, but I will make that clear the next time I order. This place may not be as hip as the Rat Pack, but somehow, I think Frank would still dig it.

I love these old outdated homey Italian restaurants. We are attending a convention in DC. My boyfriend remembered this place when he lived in Alexandria in the 80s. Loved it! Glass of house wine for $ 4.95. Yummy rich Fettucini Florentine for $ 12.95 and Fettucini Carbonara for $ 11.95. Not fancy but authentic and comforting.

The food is authentic an delicious. It is a clear hole in the wall but the dining area is elegant and clean. The server himself that I had had an Italian accent. The wine prices are cheap and I got full glasses so this is worth the money. The only issue is that the servers never check in with you, I had to flag someone down to get my check. Will come back but not for the service, for the delicious food!!!

This is what happens when your friend doesn’t let you look on Unilocal for a review!!! We were walking down Old Town Alexandria one afternoon and decided to have lunch. We ended up here :( Once we stepped into the establishment I knew something was wrong — the place was EMPTY during lunch time! Sigh — I wasn’t paying for the meal so I kept my mouth shut! The server was friendly, but the bread that was served was cold and hard — not appetizing! To top that our water glasses were dirty! GROSS! So again why aren’t we leaving??? For our entrees I ordered the Shrimp Fettuccine and my friend had the Meat Lasagna. The Alfredo sauce was very watery and it was A TON of it on the plate. My friend didn’t like their lasagna as it was too salty to consume. The best part of this meal was that my friend wish they never chose this place! #WINNING You win some and you lose some!
