Oil service folks need customer service training

Terrible people. Terrible service. I have been a customer of theirs for years. As soon as my annual contact with them expires I am getting a new company. Their idea of customer service is to argue with you. They totally botched an A/​C job for me. They blamed it on my house! The way it was constructed. The house meet all codes in the county I live in and was built in the early 1990’s so it was not a historical house with special considerations. For the most part the techs now are «knuckle draggers» with the exception of a couple that know their stuff. So you have to be careful of who you get. One guy is an Indian or Pakistani and the most lazy, worthless tech in the world. I now turn him away when I get my annual Winter/​Summer servicing and ask for another guy I trust. Old-​man Fannon was no bargain to deal when he was alive, but his son now has taken over and moved the non-​customer-​service-​expertise even higher. He is a total jerk! I would like to use a stronger term that begins with the letter «a» and ends with a «e» and has seven letters. Shop around. These guys are terrible.
By the way. The five stars below have to be Fannon’s work. I can’t believe anyone would praise this worthless company.

Call only as a last resort. Up to 250% markup on parts. Four visits to fix one problem. Created damaging flood by not fixing problem the first or the second time. Had to replace parts twice. Left stickers on other appliances, looking for more business. Never again… I moved to Virginia to escape people like this. They were here waiting.

I will give them a bonus star because they were able to come look at our issue twice the very next day first thing in the morning. After that, it went downhill.
Our natural gas furnace was not relighting so we were recommended to T.J. Fannon via out old HVAC guy who no longer does HVAC. Tech came out, looked at the furnace for maybe 10 minutes and told us the flame sensor just needed to be cleaned. Same thing happens 2 hours after he leaves. Next day he comes back, spends 10 minutes looking at it and says the wind is blowing the flames out. MAYBE when we were having 60MPH gusts and a –10 windchill, I’d buy that, but this was a calm 40 degree day it was «blowing out» so we just gave up on them entirely and called someone else who successfully diagnosed our gas valve issue.
2 days later we received a $ 150 bill for the HOUR he allegedly spent at our house on the initial day where he fixed nothing. Dreadfully waiting for the other $ 150 bill for the 10 minute «hour» he spent doing god only knows what to give us another bad diagnosis.
Thoroughly and vehemently displeased with the service we got. Will definitely NEVER be using this company again.

Best Heating and A/​C company in the DMV! I have gone through my share of Heating and A/​C companies and I have never found one as attentive and quick responding as TJ Fannon & Sons. I have had multiple problems with a gas furnace with multiple prior companies. Fannon came, installed and live up to their workmanship. Their service plans are reasonable and they always show when they promise. I am sure they will have the occasional hiccup, but that happens. When it comes down to laying down my hard earned cash for Heating and A/​C, Fannon will be first in my book when it comes to quality work, prompt service and knowledgeable technicians! GREAT JOB FANNON & SONS!

My husband and I had a very good experience with TJ Fannon & Sons company recently, so I am wondering why some of the stars are not rated higher with other comments posted here. Our A/​C system went down during a hot spell in the weather. Several HVAC companies said it would take several days to get out to us just to assess the situation. Whereas, TJ Fannon & Sons had two guys, Jimmie & Jerry, come out that very day. They not only assessed the situation, they fixed it right away, all the while explaining what went wrong in a professional manner. We highly recommend their services to anyone wanting prompt service with integrity. I would give a 5-​star rating, but feel forced to provide a 4-​star rating because I notice Unilocal knocks off my 5-​star ratings when my experience is extremely positive with a business– TJ Fannon & Sons deserves a 5-​star rating from our experience.

This company was recommended to me by the previous owner of my house. I signed up with them hoping to get good customer service.
To my disappointment I realized this company still runs like it was the 70s. It lacks customer service and the refuel billing is suspect. I have 250 gallon tank which was little less then half full, their refueling billing ended up sending me an invoice for 200 gallons.
What is worse is that they dont offer any type of payment plan like Grifith Heating and Oil does. Paying cash severely affected my cash flow.

Making the appointment was easy enough, they even asked if I preferred morning or afternoon, I chose morning. Unfortunately, that’s where the goodness ended. It’s 2pm and I’m still waiting on someone to show up. 3 hours ago I called the receptionist only to be laboriously told I was next in the queue, 3 hours ago, in case I didn’t mention that already.
Thank goodness for an understanding boss…
I’ll update this if the technicians performance is redeeming at all.

These guys are the best. They installed our heater 25 years ago, we had a problem today and they came out Right away and had parts for our old unit on the truck, they were able to fix our unit not have to replace it. That still had us on record of what we had bought and knew what to bring To be prepared. How much better can you ask for. Will use them again for the next 25+ years when he unit does ultimately die.

DO NOT RECOMMEND. Get an estimate before they do any work. Both we and our neighbors had the same experience. The workers are cordial and competent, but they do not tell you any information about what is wrong or how much it will cost. Then we got a bill that was much, much higher than we expected it to be. The manager refused to speak with me when I asked. This is our second negative experience with this company. If they put the customer first and offer estimates before doing repairs, then I would give them a much higher rating.

Wonderful service. Jerry detected the problem, fixed it and was in and out in one hour. Another company tried twice to figure it out but Fannin was responsive, quick and inexpensive for quality work. Great job!

I can’t rate this company high enough. They were considerably cheaper than any other company, even on a replacement unit, provided the best service, friendly, on time, efficient and knowledgeable. They are one of the oldest companies in the area and still provide old fashioned service and value which is refreshing. Don’t bother with any other company. I have never written a review on Unilocal but their uncommon service, friendliness, and professionalism (something sorely lacking in other companies) prompted me to write this to save others who are trying to decide on a company to call.

Amazing service. We have 2 children under 3 and our AC died (not one they did) we had a long hot night. Fannon was here the next morning and had it replaced and working by 3 pm. It’s a true family business and it’s obvious that they all have pride in their work. providing good service and helping as much as they can has been their m.o. when we’ve needed general service, quotes or emergency help.

Definitely would not recommend this company for their «Take it or Leave it» attitude. $ 125 per hour service charge and $ 60/​pound for freon. What a rip-​off to be billed $ 245 for 15 minutes of work. The customer service skills of the lady answering the phone range from surly to beeeatchy.

I’ve had Fannon replace my air conditioner and fix my boiler. Both times they were excellent. Their price was good, their workers were expert, and they showed wonderful professionalism. They are the only heating and cooling service I will use. Much better than Kestersons or R&S, in my opinion.

I’ve had three interesting experiences with TJ Fannon. I think, like other services, it’s luck of the draw (who you end up working with) that will determine your experience with them.
The first time was to get our heating system service, because there was a very strong leaking oil smell whenever the heat was running. The service man came, claimed «he didn’t smell anything», and then that our problem was due to the tank being empty (?)… Turns out, the tank wasn’t empty, so we called him back, but he never did fix the leaking oil smell. I didn’t imagine it; every guest commented on it when they entered.
In April, I called them to service our air conditioner, but the man on the phone claimed it «wasn’t air conditioning season» until there were three hot days in a row, and that air conditioners need some time to get working after winter, so they wouldn’t come out. Huh? I’m not an idiot; I had done a basic check of everything, changed the air filter, and it definitely wasn’t working. It’s not like we live in Siberia or anything, where the parts need to thaw out. It was a complete blowoff.
A few weeks later they finally came out, and we had a very competent service man who fixed the air conditioner promptly AND incidentally found and fixed the oil leak that the other service guy claimed never existed. Third time’s a charm?
This redeemed them at least in some extent, in my eyes, though I can’t say I’d recommend them overall.

This is an old, established, heating and AC repair company. They’ve been around longer than AC has been around. On the coldest day of the year (a Sunday,) when my ancient boiler refused to fire, I called all the places with substantial websites — 8 calls in all, including Fannon. Every other call resulted in a «maybe a tech will call you back.» Two did. Minimum price: $ 190, just to look. I called Fannon. They answered the phone, sent a guy over in about an hour. He fixed it in 15 minutes, and they’re going to bill me. These guys deliver service that I’ve only read about in history books, or heard about from my mom and dad. Highly, highly recommended.
