Addorable, family owned business. There is the woman’s hand in the taste of the beer: they tend to be light and fruity. May not suit everyone. but sure is unusual for a micro-brewery. You can see the actual brewery from where you sit– and it’s pretty new and all high tech. quite cool. You bring/order your own food:) Begs for more sitting room, seriously. Especially, that this place is quickly becoming quite popular.

I think its pretty neat how this place is in an office looking building. comfortable when walking in it is a little small. I had a flight and the beers were definitely different then ones offered at other breweries I have been to. I think this one will grow me. The bartender was friendly! Not expensive. I will come back here!

I hope they had an off night or their lines were just bad but out of the 10 beers I tried there was only one worth taking home: rugged coal miner. The taps seemed over carbonated and flavors seemed even different from their bottled beer. The brewery/taproom is a gem and it was very well decorated and felt like a rustic living room. With that being said there is simply not enough seating. Two larger bench tables, 20 seats at the bar, 4 small two seater tables and an area for four people in the corner. There really isn’t even a good place for standing room only. We brought in our own food and the locals and bartenders were very nice and even shared around some munchies. I spent $ 60 with tip on a 6pack($ 9.99), Howler($ 3) then the fill($ 7.50), a flight of all 10 with up charges($ 18) and two pints($ 5 each). Prices are pretty in line with others but the beer was again just off or something. I might go back again but won’t be going out of my way.

Diamond in the rough. Who would have thought that river people could make such delicious, inexpensive beer? This is a cool spot in Algonquin and it’s definitely worth the trip from the North Shore or the city. It’s kind of hard to find because it is located in a place that you wouldn’t expect it to be in. It’s off Algonquin road in an office plaza and I think that is weird. But I sometimes have bad opinions. Anyways, the beer is super delicious. The staff is friendly and is more than willing to let you have a taste before you commit to a pint. You could also do a flight but I am not into that. I make a commitment. No food on site. I didn’t like the Crypt Keeper– that is the pumpkin, because it was a dessert beer and was too heavy for me. I loved the Whit beer. I need to go back. Who wants to drive me?

Good custom beer, friendly, lively social atmosphere. Came here on a Friday night, full house, lots of conversation. One TV(which no one was watching, that’s a good sign). People were actually enjoying being with each other, nice. I would like to come back here with my honey.

This place really was one of the best breweries I’ve experienced yet, in the suburbs. I’d say it’s up there in the tier with some of the better ones I’ve been to in burbia, such as Church Street in Itasca. This was easily the longest distance I’ve traveled off of a Metra stop to get to a brewery(round trip from Pingree Rd. Metra stop to here and back is something like 8 miles, and 4 miles each way! slightly longer than the distance it took to get to Tighthead from Libertyville’s Metra stop, via using a bike trail), but I didn’t let that stop me from finally visiting here, and budgeted MORE extra time to travel here. And which prevented an earlier visit in 2015. Anyway… This place only serves beer, and doesn’t have a kitchen. I didn’t notice even light snacks like chips for sale(maybe I missed that behind the counter? dunno), so you’ll have to bring food beforehand or order from a binder of menus of local places that’ll deliver to here. Started off with sampling 2 sour gose beers(Pit Master and Sweetie Pie), and they were both decent. Then I tried a witbier beer(Fielders Wit), that wasn’t a bad effort, despite it being my least fav out of 7(including a flight of 4 beers) I went on to try. I’m glad there wasn’t a dud beer whatsoever, out of all the 7 I did try here. Unlike at some breweries(*cough* 350), where so many felt like duds. Did a 4 beer flight, and I liked all my beers. Started with Berry Fool, which was a raspberry saison which turned out better than I thought it’d be, and actually isn’t bad. Then tried Hickster, which was a good cream ale, and I believe is a year round beer here. Rugged Coalminer was my fav beer of those 4(a porter beer), but I forget if this is year round or seasonal. Last one I got was Crypt Keeper, which is a seasonal pumpkin beer that also was decent. Though it may not be right off a Metra stop and may possibly be the furthest away brewery that isn’t by a Metra stop(Only Child in Gurnee at least is a short walk south of a Pace bus route, in comparison), this brewpub is definitely worth the extra effort to visit in the suburbs. Even if you have to use a bike trail to get to it, I enjoyed this place. I know for sure I’ll try to do at least 1 – 2 more visits here, next year!

Love this place! Great beers and there’s always new ones to try! The size and prices are typical for a microbrew, and food can be brought or ordered in. Theres a shuffleboard, trivia on Thursday nights, and sometimes they have live music. Definitely a place to check out!

An impressive variety of brews to choose from. We have tried 6 in all so far and have enjoyed them all. If you plan on bringing in food from one of the food trucks that visit here regularly or ordering delivery, etc. I suggest coming very early to snag a seat at a table. Perhaps they aren’t as packed on the weeknights but we were there at 6 p.m. on a Friday recently and there wasn’t a seat, or even standing room, to be had. We almost left since we wanted to eat from the food truck as well and couldn’t hold a glass of beer and a bag of food and then somehow consume both. After waiting it out for 30 minutes a standing spot along a railing opened up so we balanced our sandwiches on the rail and ate there(there are nice holes cut out of the rail to hold pint glasses at least). I’m glad they seem to be doing well and I think they do have the room to add some more tables so hopefully they will do that to accommodate their popularity.

Husband and I were too tired and it was too damn hot to make the trek to 3 Floyds, so we decided to try a more«local» brewery(even though it was about 45 mins away). I’ve had Scorched Earth brews before at my local sports bar and thought they had some pretty solid beers. We got here and first tried the flight. It was pretty reasonable too: I think it was $ 10 or $ 12 for 6 beers, and you got to pick which ones you wanted. The standouts for us were Saint Monty and Maibock. After that, we had more than a few more full sized beers. I believe they are $ 5 per pint, which is competitive with other breweries in the area. There was also an acoustic set by the very friendly and talented Erik Peter Schwartz. All in all, a great place to hang out and make some friends. Don’t forget to bring a sandwich from the sub shop down the street. You’ll need the grease and carbs to soak up all the alcohol.

My husband and I decided to try this on a no kids Friday. He had been looking for a new micro brew in the area and wanted to try this one. When we put the address in the GPS and got close we thought Google was getting it wrong again but nope! It really is in an industrial looking building with next to no signage. The only reason we kept driving in was because we saw the good truck that was advertised on their website. I was really skeptical but after to go in for at least one beer got my husband. I was pleasantly surprised, the inside was very nicely finished, clean and modern. It is really open so you can’t see where they be the best, very cool. The bar had plenty of seating with a few long picnic tables for groups. I am not a beer fan so we ordered a flight so I could try several of them. Our bartender was great and asked questions about what I did like then made suggestions. I was not a fan of any of the beers so then he brought me their summer strawberry rhubarb beer and I loved it! My husband on the other hand liked a couple of their beers. I was disappointed that they did not have a food menu or even crackers or pretzels to munch on. There was a food truck, great idea for a place with no kitchen, but even without a kitchen you can serve pretzels or something. This really was my only complaint, I loved the atmosphere and the service was excellent.

What can I say about Scorched Earth Brewing Company except to say if you have not been here you should make plans to go. We are fortunate enough to go weekly. You will catch us here on Thursday nights playing PubUSA trivia. It is fun and it is free so you should make plans to join us! Scorched Earth has many different styles of beer. There is something for everyone. Right now, they debuted a Maibock. It is delicious. Since it has been unseasonably hot, I enjoyed the Berliner Weiss yesterday. So excellent. They have an oatmeal stout called the Bitter Chocolatier that everyone should try as well as the Crypt Keeper. a year round pumpkin spice favorite. So, I hope to see you at Scorched Earth Brewing Company very soon!

Loved Scorched Earth! This is the quintessential type of brewery I think of when I think of super chill breweries with good beer and a good mixed group. I feel in love with Nashville because their breweries are just that and Scorched Earth really reminded me of a Nashville brewery. One of the best things about Scorched Earth is the variety of beers. They not only have the usual APA, IPA and Porters… but you’ll find a sour and a smoked beer. I love smoked and sours with all of my being and was so pleased to see these on the menu. Hickster American Cream Ale — Seems to be their signature beer. My friend loved this one. I thought it was aiight. Others I’ve tried were the Public Servant Rye Pale Ale, Rugged Coalmine Porter, Base Jumper IPA, Crypt Keeper Pumpkin Spice Ale, The Bitter Chocolatier chocolate oatmeal stout and the Night Hound an American Dark Ale. My favorites were the Foraging Swine — a smoked ale! I love smokey beers and this one did not disappoint. I also love sours so their Der Sommer Besitzer was just my speed. $ 10 for a 6 sampler flight of beers and the night I went they had 9 beers on tap which meant I got to have three of my favorite beers twice… nomz! $ 21.55 was my total to try out 12 beers + tip of course. Scorched Earth seems to usually have food trucks on Saturday evenings though when my friend and I went, the truck cancelled last minute! We were so sad but thankfully they keep a binder of all the local delivery places so we utilized that to order some dinner. Scorched Earth is super laid back and chill with good clientele, good people on staff a nice mixture of bar seating, long communal seating, high 4 tops and a couple of comfy chairs in the back by their shuffleboard. I tend to house-sit up this way every few months and will make sure to always have this be a stop for me.

Exceeded expectations. I’ve been anxiously awaiting the opening of this brewery, as it’s in walking distance from home, and after my first visit a few days ago, I’m very happy. They had a kolsch, a saison, a rye pale ale, and a porter on tap. I enjoyed all four, and took a half growler of the porter home. It looks like they’ll have some rotating in the taps, and I’m very excited about their marzen and pumpkin beers that are coming up! The owner also talked a lot about some sours that he’s working on, so there’s a lot to look forward to here. The tap room is beautiful, featuring reclaimed wood from around the county, and is much larger than you’d expect from the outside. They have ample bar space along with several tables if you’re with a group. It has a sort of open industrial feel too, as you can see the brewing area from the tap room. In all, I’m more than pleased with the outcome after following their progress for a long time! Cheers!
