I’ve been coming here for years now. I always get my hair cut by Joyce, but this time I decided to go dye my hair blonde. I’ve only dyed my hair once before and it was a dark color. Yes, the process to go from dark to light was long, but I feel that it was all worth it!
I love my hair a lot and have been given so many compliments on it!
I’d definitely recommend Joyce because she really does take the time to make sure everything is done correctly.

I have been going to Precision Hair Design for about 10 years now and I always go to May, who has been cutting and styling my hair the entire time. I also go to May for my annual Japanese straight perm and she always does a fantastic job and at a very reasonable price, much more reasonable than the fancy salons in West LA. I recommended her to a business school classmate and she has also been going to May for years and years now. May also does a great job with haircuts and for $ 40, I get a shampoo and wash, cut, plus blow dry and styling, which I think is very reasonable. I have tried going to other salons that are closer to me but always come back to May at Precision Hair. Highly recommended.

I don’t normally pay more than 15 dollars for a haircut because from past experience I am usually disappointed with it. But I was very satisfied with my haircut this time and the 21 dollars was worth it !
They wash your hair before and after and add product and teach you how to get your desired look. Joyce was very helpful. Definitely coming back!

I have been coming here for a while and the quality of work from May has been deteriorating immensely. She will book several customers at a time making you wait for a long time, even in between your haircut.
Lately, I have been getting bad quality hair cuts. My wife usually comes here for a perm, but May makes her wait so long. In the middle of working on my wife’s hair, another customer will show up and May will stop working on my wife’s hair so she could cut another person’s hair! She had to wait on 4 other guys’ haircuts before May returned to my wife’s hair. At least finish your current customer first.
In the end, you end up with bad quality work. My wife still spend the same amount of time straightening her hair in the morning as if she didn’t get her hair perm in the first place.

I used to come here regularly to get the japanese straightening with May. I stopped when she started to continuously increase the price for every visit I made. I noticed that my hair became more and more damaged every time I did a japanese straight. It looked lifeless, felt dry, and was unnaturally straight. (kind of like the girl from the ring… how scary!) Never again will I let those harsh chemicals on my hair!

I came here two days ago and asked for Japanese Straightening from Joyce. She did an amazing job! She knows how I want it and I’m always satisfied with her work. I’ve been coming here for several years now and I’ve never thought I’d settled with an Asian lady treating my hair because… well, in the past, all these salons I’ve gone to, the Asian ladies who cut my hair always cut it too short or in ways that THEY think suits ME rather than what I asked for. I get my hair washed, cut, and trimmed here all the time. I recently dyed my virgin, natural hair last month and I liked how Joyce showed me her books of hair color samples and made the color from scratch with lesser chemicals that the smell wasn’t even as strong as those from store-​bought-​already-​made ones. I love my hair color because it looks natural black but when I’m in the sun or under light, you see the dye color. :D I’m so thankful for Joyce, for she is the only person I trust to cut, trim, and dye my hair!!!
They’re open 7 days a week from 10AM-​7PM. CASH ONLY! Plus, if you show up AFTER 4PM, make sure to move your car elsewhere or in their private lot located behind the salon itself because they sometimes give tickets. :)

I’ve been coming here for years and May is my stylist… I’ve tried long hair, short hair, straight hair, wavy hair… She does a wonderful job and the price is reasonable. May does not rip you off like other hair salons. She gives good suggestions and takes time to cut your hair if you make a proper appointment with her.

May is my current go-​to person for a quick haircut or trim. Its a small salon, a hole in the wall really, with parking either out front on the street or the small lot in the back with the few open spaces, so don’t expect special treatment like free drinks while you wait or anything else like that. Wash, cut, rinse, dry, a little styling = $ 25. This is the place when you grow out of getting the Asian fade and need a new style but don’t want to go to the fancy salon with at least double the prices. Call and make an appointment, usually May can squeeze you in even on a busy day.

I started coming to Precision Hair Design soon after I moved back to SoCal. I’ve been having Joyce cut my hair for about 7 years now. The way I found this place was completely random. I dropped my car at an autoshop and started walking. Looking for something to do like maybe get a haircut with only $ 20 in my pocket? I began walking aimlessly down Valley Blvd. I came across some more expensive places, checked their prices, and kept walking.
That’s when I saw this hair salon. The storefront isn’t anything special. It’s like any other Asian hair salon in San Francisco. I walked in and was immediately greeted by Joyce. Since I only had $ 20, I asked her right off the bat if that was enough for a haircut. I think the cut itself was about $ 18 or $ 20, but she told me, if I like what she does I could be a return customer. The autoshop called while I was getting my haircut and she offered to drive me to pick up my car. She’s offering this to the girl that can barely pay for her haircut and leaves a lousy/​non-​existent tip. That just caught me by surprise. I told her it was ok and that I didn’t mind walking. But the fact that she offered was buy-​in for me. Joyce is a genuinely sweet person and I knew that from day one.
I’ve gotten haircuts and color w/​highlights from her many times. She takes her time on my long hair. She doesn’t rush through when she has other customers. I always get great results and she does wonders thinning out and layering my crazy thick Asian hair.
The prices have gone up since I started coming here. But they are still very reasonable. I’ll be coming here for many years to come.

I have super thick hair, and everytime I go to a salon, they never know how to thin-​out my hair! My friend recommended May at this salon back when I was in college and I’ve been going here for years now! At $ 25, you get a wash, cut, and blow dry. I personally don’t believe in paying hundreds of dollars for a cut, I mean come on… it’s just hair and you’ll have to cut it again soon anyways.
They’re usually very busy on weekdays after work hours and on the weekends, but May is so flexible that she even stayed past closing time to cut my hair! May really listens to what I want and does exactly what I ask. I always walk out with a happy wallet, lighter head, and fabulous hair: D
