So, down in the area for training jumped on Unilocal for the local hot lunch spot. This place is Legit! Hot pizza ready when you walk in or order from there large list of subs. Fresh bread. Family owned. Dining room is a flashback to the early 80’s. Dining in? You will be served on paper plate! Love it. Seem to have a big rush for lunch from a lot of the people in the area and the owner seems to know everyone which further cements the fact this place is a go to when in the area. Steak and cheese is pretty good, pizza is hot and generous slices for lunch.

Regularly get pizza here for lunch. Consistently good. Very reliable on pick up times. Service with a smile — always appreciated. Normally get the pepperoni with extra cheese which is really tasty. Sometimes a little greasy, but that’s probably my fault(extra cheese).

Best pizza we have ever had. True to style, always consistent. So nostalgic. We have been eating their subs and pizza since we were little. I can’t imagine going to Allen park and NOT going into Sylvias. Good people, great food.

I usually love this place, but lately I’ve been noticing the downfall in customer service. The girls cooking your food seem to be more worried about out of work convos instead of focusing on the customer. The service is also slowing down. They have brilliant food maybe a team meeting can fix this. Also, they need to expand gets too crowded.

Awesome cheese steak subs and party wings. They have good combo deals with fries and a drink and their pizza is very delicious, very cheesy but good.

My initial review had been removed for violating the terms and restrictions of the website… Yikes, I feel like a derelict teenager getting my hand slapped… I think I was talking quite a bit of smack(I’m not proud but I think I might have used the word«twat»)…and I think it was kinda personal but hey, I had a bad experience on a bad day. So it’s probably best that no one can see that drivel I had spewed a few months back about my heinous experience. I seem to keep having these experiences of having to go someplace for work, looking on Unilocal, finding me some fantastic reviews and ending up being extremely disappointed because everyone is using their nostalgia for credence and this was yet another episode where I fell for the glowing revelry and lore of many locals who had grown up with this place… This review is just for a couple of slices and a pop, it wasn’t that great… maybe I should try one of their subs that everyone’s talking about. I don’t know, all I do know is that the ridiculous service and openly hostile lady I encountered swayed me to never go back.

I ordered 4 steak and cheese sandwiches and neither sandwich had sauce. I called and spoke with a manager name Hanna who told me «since we don’t charge for sauce, there’s nothing they can do». She then stated«have a merry Christmas» and disconnected the call. I called back and spoke to the owner Greg to report what had happened and he seemed unconcerned about his customers being treated this way. I use to eat me all the time as well as my coworkers. They have definitely lost a customer. I would not recommend any restaurant that treats their customers this way. There’s ALWAYS something you can do, but apparently your establishment is not willing to do it. Good food is not worth horrible service. With service like this I’m sure you’ll be out of business soon.

I grabbed a WHOLE Super Cheese and Steak sub with mushrooms and green peppers and onions.(Cut in half, a half feeds one person) and 4 slices to go to take home for Monday Night Football. When the BF asked what i got him, I told him a half a sub and a slice and gestured towards the bag-He eyed me. I then had to explain that one half of a sub is almost he size of a whole sub from other places. :) The BF(being new to the area) had never tried Sylvias and he had to stop eating and say what a good sandwich it was. The slices are always better when they are hot out of the oven, so the 15 minute drive home(yes, i drove almost 20 minutes out of my way) caused for a re-heat in the toaster oven. But they were still amazing. I always forget about this place, but i really need to stop in more often for just some good down home food. FYI: the service can be a bit slow, it’s family owned and hey employ the local High School kids. Back on 10÷21÷14 It was still awesome! Same order as last time, but i couldnt even finish my half of the sub, it must have gotten bigger since the last time we were here.

Very good subs! I have been coming here since the late 80’s and it is still just as awesome! The interior is old but the emphasis is on the food. The pizza is good but very heavy.

The subs are good. The pizza is yummy. But the service could use some work. Mostly kids who are walking around with their head in the clouds. They are nice but could use a big more training and could be a little more professional. The food is good though and the now deliver so that’s a bonus.

Very cool little greasy spoon sub shop(which is very clean and has a warm interior). I got the ½ pizza steak sub and a slice of pepperoni pizza. Friendly service, good food, and simple. I feel kind of fat afterward, so it did its job well– Great little hole in the wall!

Typical grinders, pretty average, but I love this place. Staff is very nice and the steak and cheese is really filling. Very satisfying on my lunch break.

I enjoy the occasional Steak Cheese & Mushroom sub and this place has been around forever. Typical grilled subs. My complaint is that the lights inside flicker. Honest to God it made the whole experience headache inducing.

I love this place! I used to go all the time as a kid. My brother and I would get a slice of pizza and play mortal combat for what seemed like hours. Just recently my mom took me back here and it was like going back in time. Nothing as changed about this place they still have the same fo wood booths and the same pictures on the walls. The only thing that’s gone is the mortal combat and gun shooting arcade games. Biting into the pizza again for the first time in well over 10 years brought back many good memories. The cheese is thick, pepperonis filled with grease, very thin layer of sauce, the prefect pizza even now as an adult. I also got the taco salad it was incredible. It’s such a simple salad, smashed Doritos, lettuces, and ground beef, I got the vinegar dressing to go with it and its addicting good. I will be coming back here and bringing my son once he is old enough to enjoy a not so heathy slice of pizza.

I had a blind date in the works, and needed a place to meet up. I happened to mention that I don’t mind a good dive if the food is good, and immediately my date(and now boyfriend) suggested we go to Sylvia’s. Sylvia’s is a legit dive, in the best sense of the word: a lunch counter full of regulars, wood paneling, handwritten sign to inform patrons that there are no refills on pop, and a massive menu at the door of all of the sandwiches you can eat. I ordered the Italian sausage sub. They take the sausage out of the casings and throw the meat on the grill top. The meat is then thrown into Italian sub buns(the airy variety that really lack that crustiness I tend to crave), covered with cheese(provolone or mozzarella, I honestly couldn’t tell you which) and then covered with crisp, shredded lettuce, thinly sliced onions, and tomato slices, and a dressing that consists of oil, vinegar, and some«spices»(I added my own black pepper). I actually thought the sandwich was delightful! And the portions? HUGE. A little unimaginative, but a good, solid, working-class joint. I’d come back if I really wanted a gut-buster(and heck, who am I kidding? Sometimes I do!).

Rarely does my husband hate a place so much as he hated this one. He says it is a one but as I am the one writing the review I will give it a two. Maybe you have to be a local to *get* it or something but I was not too overly jazzed either. We ordered steak subs with cheese, I went with a super steak and cheese and James opted for pizza steak. The portions here are huge. Ridiculously huge. The flavor is hard to find though. The meat is chopped super fine and tastes completely unseasoned. The cheese is not abundant. Veggies consist of lettuce and tomato sprinkled on top with a shot of Italian dressing added. If I had known this I would have asked for onions and peppers cooked in or added. Usually a steak sub has onion at least. Luckily I asked for hot peppers, unluckily these are not the cherry type pepper but the mild banana pepper type. Because the meat is unseasoned and the cheese is not a strong presence all I tasted was the banana pepper really. Meh. James’ pizza steak sub was apparently worse. I did not try it to be honest but he was clearly not a fan. He says the creation was truly tasteless. He is not a picky eater or anything either, if he is not a fan I know I will like it even less as a general rule. I did like the sub bread, soft textured but with that needed bit of chew. Sadly though we had to pick napkin pieces off of it. The girl wrapped our freshly made sammies in napkins she did some marker writing on, identifying which sandwich was which. These napkins were made soggy by the trapped steam, clinging to the bread in an extremely unappealling way(think wet toilet paper), requiring you to pick them off in strips. Ewww. The lettuce is wilted and slimy if you travel any distance, I recommend skipping it if you are not eating in. The tomatoes were mealy and as tasteless as the meat. I would advise skipping them too. Overall, I think I will skip the whole thing myself. Sorry Sylvia’s fans, I am not trying to be rude at all, I really just don’t get the appeal.

Did you ever have to take a napkin, fold it in half, and sop up the grease from the pepperoni? Did you ever feel like there was this huge lump of cheese and dough in your stomach that just didn’t seem to digest? Did your ever see dead people as your sight started to blurr? Talk about an acquired taste for something, this is the place. We went here after our afternoon of glowing balls at the Thunderbowl across the street. Years have passed since the last time I was here. The smell brought me back. The reason the pepperoni puddles with grease is because of how thick it is sliced. It rolls into the perfect cup with just enough room to hold all the grease without any spillage. But the taste of the pizza is just as I remembered it. The cheese is plentiful and sweet tasting. The dough cooked just enough to be soft to the bite. The sauce is also different, not too spicy, not too sweet. An evening of bowling and Sylvia’s pizza reminds me of a Jethro Tull song saying«greasy fingers smearing shabby clothes». This brought me back to first dates of bowling, pizza and a good night greasy kiss.
