Went last night with four people. Asked the hostesses if we could switch seats they said no at first and we had to insist since it was freezing cold downstairs and we hadn’t even sat down yet or ordered anything. Took 15 mins for our server to come by and finally ask if we needed anything. Food was amazing. Drinks were good until I found a piece of glass in my mouth that I sucked up through my straw. Didn’t want to say anything to our server because he was acting like he didn’t want to even be there in the first place. Posting picture of the piece of glass next to my drink.

I’ve been here probably 50 times over the last 15+ years. As others note, it has an enormous tap list, including rare and obscure stuff. Unfortunately I’ve often been disappointed that the first three or five ones I wanted has kicked. But they’re been better in recent years about updating the draft list. The menu is really not vegan friendly, so I rarely eat there. But I do drink a lot of beer there. It’s a very large space for Boston, especially Allston /Brighton, but can still get quite crowded. Most pleasant during off-peak hours. At night and on weekends it can get very, very bro-heavy. I’ve mostly sat at the bar, so I can’t really speak to table servers, but the bartenders tend to be great — friendly and efficient.

This was my first time here. The tap list was awesome. Too bad I had to order two or three times before they actually had what I wanted– so many of the kegs were kicked! We got some great beers though. Looked at the food menu and as a vegetarian it looked very good, but we didn’t order anything. Casual atmosphere, two bars and lots of space to sit.

Went here with a friend to grab a bite to eat for dinner on a Friday night. The place was absolutely packed, but we were lucky enough to snag a spot at one of their high tables. We weren’t super hungry so we ordered a couple of drinks and the half order of the nachos – this was an easy choice after seeing how large the full order was, literally a mountain of food. The nachos themselves were very average, not something I would probably order again, even though I usually love nachos. After the nachos, we decided to split the chicken fajitas. These were much better and were served with a good amount of chicken and all the fixings. Needless to say, we weren’t even able to finish either dish because it was a huge amount of food. For my drink, I went with the jalapeño margarita with watermelon. Though this drink was strong, it was definitely a bit syrupy and not spicy at all. Maybe it would have been better blended, but was not as good as I was hoping. Overall, this place serves up food pretty quickly and has a wide variety of options on the menu. However, I found that the food and drinks fell a bit short of expectations, with the exception of the fajitas.

All I have two say is $ 5 burgers at lunch!!! Delicious sweet potato fried, large drinks and great service. My second time here and this place never disappoints! Best buffalo sauce around Boston, hands down!

I am a huge fan of this spot. My boyfriend make a point to come about once a month from Quincy. If you like good beer, this is the spot for you. If you like Mexican food and a really good beer steamed burger, this is the spot for you. If you like margaritas, this is the place to go. Very reasonably priced, especially for lunch. You can get a $ 5 beer steamed burger before 4:30pm. I absolutely love he atmosphere, endless amounts of beer and friendly waitstaff. If your in the area, this is a must!

How many mistakes can be on one bill? Yes, we were a large party, but when we say ‘oh no, no one got that, it should be this’ she added the new thing and did not remove the old. More than one time. Also pretty much everyone was given the wrong drinks and we had to move them around. Servers kept coming to our table to give us something else, even if no one ordered it as well. I ordered two things from the special menu: spicy calamari and fish taco. Both were really disappointing and I couldn’t eat all of either of them. The calamari was not spicy, only one person at the table thought it could be considered spicy. It came with two sauces which I did not think went well with the calamari at all. The fish taco was a built it yourself taco, but the fish already had the melted cheese on it inside, so you better build it and eat it fast before it becomes a pretty solid mass like mine did. The flour tortilla was half hard as well. Beer is great though… huge selection, rotates a lot, so I guess I’ll stick with that here and pay as I go and keep the receipts.

It’s a good thing this place is on the painfully slow B line since I would be morbidly obese if it was closer to me in Beacon Hill. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this place. The staff, the food, and the drink selection are all sensational. I highly recommend the barbecue chicken quesadilla. The portions are massive so a half order is plenty. Even though it’s known for its massive beer list, they have a great cocktail selection as well. If you are unsure what to get, the staff will give great recommendations. If you are going with a group, try to reserve the beer bank. I sat there with friends tonight and it’s a private room separate from the rest of the restaurant.

Great find right in Allston. Upon walking in, there’s that rustic old charm of a traditional American bar and dimly lit, but you can tell this place carries some class with the coasters on the walls and the beer taps they have collected over time. I came to Sunset Grill with my friends and was told that the nachos and beers were an absolute hit here. We ordered the pulled pork nachos and I got an IPL here. Oh my damn the beer list is EXTENSIVE from what is on tap to what is in the bottle. You can find anything here, even some Colorado beers I was surprised to find here as I am always on the hunt to find beer from home. FOOD: The nachos were very good. I do not know how one can mess up, but these were amazing pulled pork and the guacamole with the salsa and all the other nacho fixings. Yes yes yes. The beer came too and man, this bar has got it right. SERVICE: Spot on. Server was attentive and was very pleasant. Highly recommend going out your way in Boston and visiting Sunset. It’s not a tourist destination, but this place a younger crowd looking for tasty nachos and a large beer selection to wash it down with!

Great staff. Great beers. Come here if you like beer and you are in Boston. Their selection is impressive and they will point you in the right direction if you are overwhelmed. I’ll definitely come back.

My roommates and I ordered the XL fiesta nachos with pulled pork for take-out and to say it filled us up is an understatement. Those nachos were packed and you could hardly pick one up without it being covered in something delicious. I’ll admit it was a bit heavy and you don’t feel great afterwards, but sometimes you just got to have one of those nights! Definitely won’t be ordering them too often, but you won’t be disappointed after eating them. In this case, quantity definitely trumped quality(and you can’t beat the price either(~$ 15)).

I’m new to the city so I don’t know if this location is related to the Sunset Cantina on Commonwealth. The menus seem very similar. The craft beer selection is different here but still big. During my first time here, I ordered a watermelon margarita and shared an order of small vegetarian nachos with my friend. The watermelon margarita is delish! It tastes like a jolly rancher! My only complaint is that they didn’t serve it in a margarita glass, but in a belgian beer glass or something similar to it so it’s a smaller glass. The nachos here are better than the ones in Sunset Cantina, in my opinion. I asked for extra guacamole and sour cream when we ran out mid-way. The waitress charged us for it without telling us, which is annoying and I didn’t appreciate, but it’s nothing really to holler about. Service in general can be a hit and miss from my other experiences here. I’ve also tried the Tabasco Shrimp and Avocado Quesadillas. Those are good(not great) and a bit greasy. I’d still recommend the nachos. I’ll update my review should I find something else worth noting. Another weird thing is they don’t serve whiskey. Location is great, though. It’s at the middle of many things to see and do in Allston.

As a BU alum, both Sunset Grill & Tap and Sunset Cantina(Comm. Ave) will always hold a special place in my heart. But in all seriousness, amazing food and drinks. I’ll mostly speak for the nachos though. If you haven’t been to Sunset before, you MUST get their nachos. They have half and full sizes and you can choose the meats that you want. They recently added cheeseburger nachos to their menu, and it’s delicious! If I’m coming with a small group of friends, we’ll usually split a half size of nachos and get some other food as well. Their portions here are very generous. I’ve had their burgers, burritos, and sliders here as well, and all are great. They have a large selection of drinks as well. I usually get a cider or one of their cocktails(they come in mason jars!) Sunset is a fun place to hang out, eat, and drink. It’s loud though, so don’t expect to come here for a chill dinner.

I just want to call this place . For me, and for a lot of my friends, the food — which is still quite good — is second to the beer list. On this particular visit, I decided I needed another fix from Ipswich’s own Clown Shoes inventory before exploring more, in this case Tramp Stamp. That paired nicely with my steam beer burger. All our appetizers and entrees came out quickly without any problems. Toppings for the burgers are 99 cents each, or 3 for $ 1.99, and the burgers already come with lettuce, and a thick slice each of tomato and pickle. I was pleasantly surprised that the curly fries were neither greasy nor covered with paprika. During our dinner here, someone said, «Don’t order another beer here, we’ll get less expensive beer at(another pub) during trivia.» My reply — I can get less expensive beer there, but I can’t get this VARIETY there.

Sunset holds a special place in my heart, because it’s where I took my gf on our first date. Aww… how sweet. I know, sappy doesn’t equal 5 stars, but the food and beer definitely make Sunset a must for anyone in the Brighton area. There are always more beers on tap than any human could possibly consume, and they seem to be constantly adding new things each time I’m in there. They also allow you to customize flights, which is nice if you want to try something new. The staff is very knowledgable about the beer, which is a must if you’re going to have that many options to choose from. As many have pointed out, the nachos are hilariously large. They are delicious, but don’t think you can impress your date by stuffing a disastrously large amount of food in your face. Oh, and don’t try hitting on someone else while your date is in the bathroom. Yeah, I’m talking to you creepy guy. Don’t do that again!

i used to live in boston and now i don’t and so whenever i go up for a visit, sunset grill(and cantina) is a must. i am not much of a huge drinker so the drinks don’t appeal to me as much but the difference between grill and tap is that grill has a large selection of beers while cantina has a large selection of margaritas. they have something like hundreds of beers. why this place is a must. best nachos ever. the pull pork one in fact is theee best. they have other meat choices(or no meat) but pull pork by far is the best. i honestly have not any other better nachos anywhere else. other very worthy mentionables are the sour cream and chives fries. the fries comes with a ranch sauce which is the perfect combo to these fries. Also very good are the sweet potato fries which also come with a sweet sauce that also perfectly complements the fries. i honestly don’t really get the other meals because i mainly come for the nachos but the few times that i did they were alright.

Sunset Grill & Tap is a staple in Allston/Boston culture when it comes to bars. I’ve been here countless times and have had some fun experiences here. In all respects, I should be giving this place 5 stars, but as of late, I can not. I’m sure I am not the only one who feels this way as well lately. For those who don’t know, Sunset recently took on new management in the last year or so. These new Managers have made some significant changes(and that’s not an exaggeration). Some of the changes are solid… some…not so much and are quite mind boggling. First, the good changes: –Shrunk the menu considerably (there were so many things they almost never sold) –Made the draft list seperate from the main bottle list –Updated their staff and uniforms to fit the space. –Made more room in the main dining hall by getting rid of those clunky booth chairs Frankly, it feels more open in their when it’s busy, which is good if you are with very large parties. Now the Bad: — No more midnight madness (Not sure why they did away with this, because it got people buying beers late at night, and the food was just leftovers they were going to throw out anyway) — Sunday all you can eat Taco Bar is gone (I get it, it wasn’t huge, and it did make some waste, but they also never did ANY work to market it. In fact, most regulars didn’t even know about it!) — Their draft prices have shot up by a lot on a lot of their selections — They got rid of one of their best burger toppings (This is personal, but the Bora Bora was their best burger topping and it’s gone, was super bummed to see is gone)(Second side note: They have the most generic and boring burger toppings now, and there burgers are overcooked now too, almost always) — Their plate sizes for smaller (And they cost more, the nacho plate shrunk a while bunch) — The servers seem distant at times and unattentive (This is completely not the servers fault, this is management for giving these servers 10 table sections with parties of 6 or more on every table at times. Step your game up management) — They offer new deals which completely defeat the purpose of getting rid of old deals. (½ price nacho night? $ 10 flights? That’s great and all, but why get rid of things that we awesome, to substitute? Have them all and give people a reason to come in everyday.) Overall, the price of eating and drinking at Sunset has gone up, in both my wallet and style. I definitely see why the changes had to happen, and it really isn’t the worst. However, it really wasn’t that broken, so why fix it so much? I would recommend this place, but I shall be coming here a lot less after the changes. Not as impressed with them anymore.

Came here with friends during the week. Excellent drinks! Good service. Most amazing nachos… So filling and delicious — I would have preferred if there were more chilli on top and more guacamole but overall excellent and very large. The veggie burger was horrible— so soggy, the burger just fell apart.

Sunset located in Allston is a great hangout spot for the following reasons 1. Awesome beer selection — If you love beer, then Sunset is a spot that you must hit up. They have so many different selections it will drive you crazy. They also carry really rare seasonal beers that are not listed on their menu so make sure to do some research before you go over to Sunset. Chances are, they will most likely carry whatever beer that you can possibly find online. 2. Nachos, pita melt, and CHICKENWINGS — I usually avoid ordering food when I am Sunset because in my honest opinion, their food is whatever and very overpriced. However, there are certain things that you can order which I believe is very affordable and tastes great. I am not a huge fan of their nachos but it makes the most sense if you want to share between multiple people. I also highly recommend their pita melt sandwich. It tastes awesome and this is also very easy to share between friends sine you can slice it up in many different ways. Lastly, you must order their chicken wings. They taste delicious and what better way to try out new beers than with some delicious wings??? My only criticism would be that this place can get very hectic and busy so finding seats can be a pain in the butt. I also think this place is very overpriced. If you can overlook these two flaws, you might want to give Sunset a try. Maybe you will find it very enjoyable!
