My family and I have been eating breakfast here for 26 years. I practically raised two kids at this restaurant. It is like a second home. Love the muffins!

Mmmmm, this is going to be a very interesting review from my part because I really like the food from this place, but the problem and the reason I’m giving Fox’s one star is because their menu is pretty lame. They don’t have a good selection or variety of different dishes. I went here recently for breakfast and I pretty much ordered the same thing as LASTTIME. They really need to improve this and get creative. This place has been around for a while, and I cannot believe what they have in their menu selection. There really isn’t much you can order, and that is not a good thing, IMHO. :-(

Charming and delightful. Went here for breakfast very early on a Tuesday morning, it was peaceful and the food was exactly what I wanted. Simple and good. Might make it a regular thing to come here for breakfast after dropping the kids off at school.

Great service and pretty good food. *apparently, Unilocal wants an essay for every freaking submission(which is a dumb thing to require, considering how annoying long reviews are), so here is some superfluous verbiage

A great staple in the Altadena community. There is a reason Fox’s keeps a full house, it’s great! Delicious food and fair prices are just two of the reasons people eat here. The service is absolutely fantastic and it’s one of the only places in L.A. county where you can get a(genuine) family owned small town vibe. Everything is made in house and the coffee is hot and fresh. They also have a huge selection of teas to choose from. Fox’s accommodates those who prefer a hardy breakfast with flap jacks, sausage/bacon and potatoes as well as those who need a lighter or more healthy start to the day. I hope this place is around forever! Dollar menu seekers and snooty residents who want corporate plain jane food need not apply here. Fox’s is genuine and a family, serving families.

Great neighborhood traditional American breakfast. Convenient with a parking lot & street parking. You can have a wait on the weekends as Fox’s is fairly small but it goes fast & there’s seating outside while you wait. Everything is good with nice friendly fast service.

I’ve worked here for three years and by far it has been one of the best places I’ve called home. Before working here I used to come in with one of the locals and get the Fish n’ Chips every time, it may not serve my arteries well but it definitely serves my taste buds. We have some of the best french fries I have ever had and to be honest I am not the biggest fried potato fan. The tartar sauce is crazy good and would probably make a brick taste edible. I love this place for its people, charm, and food. When I would come in as a customer it always felt like I was walking into a family home. The staff were so nice to me and they talked like real people; something that doesn’t happen much these days. They were genuine, served up endless coffee refills, ice tea, and smiles. You could tell they cared about their customers. Even when they get busy and things get unorganized their staff always tried to take care of me, like I was a relative coming to visit. As part the staff now I try to do the same. I care about the people I serve and I hope that it shows. I know many people have bad experiences with us and that sucks because we really dedicate ourselves to making people feel welcome and cared for. I hope you guys give this place a try on your next trip to Altadena. :)

You know what you’re waking into when you walk into a diner, but this was subpar even for that. Homemade muffins?! Umm, ya right. They were worse than store bought mini muffins– one of my «blueberry» muffins didn’t even have a blueberry in it and was just plain and dry. The eggs were the worst I’ve ever had and had zero taste and were slightly brown. The pancakes were like jello– you would cut them and they would fuse back together– not in an undercooked way, in a wtf secret ingredient did you put in here way. Ya the inside is cute and service was great and everyone was friendly, but do yourself a favor and go to IHOP for a wayy better breakfast. This was the worst breakfast I’ve had in years and completely overpriced for the quality.

Fox’s is a way of life! The start of many a Christmas party speech. If you eat here or work here you are family.

Nice cozy and small local establishment. Prices are fair. I ordered an omelette with spinach, onions & avocado. There were maybe about four slices of avocado on top of the omelette. The potatoes were good, aside from some that were undercooked. The house muffins were tasteless, aside from tasting like baking soda. I would just order the toast instead. The French toast is just white bread saturated in egg batter. The spot reminds me of a nyc diner. Nothing fancy, but decent. The coffee good.

First, let me answer this aged old question, «What does the fox say?» Well… I seriously don’t know either, but I Imagine it would say, after eating at Fox, «GETTHEGARBAGEOMELETTE.» Thats right, the garbage omelette, it has absolutely everything that goes deliciously well with an omelette: spinach, mushrooms, ham, cheese, avocado, sour cream, among other things. You can opt out of certain items if some of the choices are not to your liking, if so, I recommend requesting extra avocado. Anyways, my friends and I stumbled onto this little quaint, mom and pops diner after an early morning hike. So, if you’re watching your figure or counting your calories this place is not for you. My friends and I pretty much consumed all the calories we burned while at Fox’s. Ironic, huh? The dining area is pretty small but you’re not crammed in, which is a plus. I love my personal space. Also, Fox literally set up tables and chairs in what looked like to me to be a living room. What a great idea! Im very fond of this little place. I will be coming back soon but not too often. I really wish they had healthier alternatives. I was nitpicking at everything while ordering my breakfast and opting out on a lot of the ingredients and I could tell our server was getting frustrated. Sorry not sorry.

My wife and I decided to stop in on a Sunday. Nice little place you would expect to see around Big Sur. There were quite a bit of regulars which is usually a good sign. The breakfast items we had were good and really no complaints. The servers were attentive and filled our coffees regularly. I would visit Fox’s again.

Merely good food. Really nice people. It’s a weird little house converted into a restaurant decades ago. Not expensive by LA standards, but $$ is probably where they belong.

what is wrong with you people? Fox’s is truly pathetic. I thought a «greasy spoon» was suppose to be good, old school home cookin. Well now I know what it really means. The food at Fox’s is so odd. It made me think of what 1930s depression food must have been like, dull, no taste, served on sad dingy plastic plates, watered down coffee and small portions. Im sure the«special’ muffins must be from a mix thats equivalent to what one might get at the 99cent store. But the kicker is thats its pricey. What a rip! and we tried it twice, to give it a second chance. really disappointed

It was my first time eating here and as much as I want to come back, I simply can’t. I just moved to the neighborhood from Long Beach and am looking for a new«regular» place to have my weekend breakfast. My girlfriend suggested Fox’s based on the reviews. As soon as we walked in, we fell in love with the place. The family and community atmosphere was overwhelming. We felt like we were walking into a social club that we immediately wanted to join. People were greeting each other left and right. «Good morning!» «Nice to see you!» It was quite comforting and nice. The drinks were delicious. I like to always try coffee«black» first so I can taste the quality. I ended up not putting in any cream or sugar. The coffee was perfect. And then the food came, I ordered a vegetable omelette and my girlfriend ordered the french toast combo. The breakfast potatoes were awesome! The first«off» thing I noticed was that the omelette had a «fishy», anchovy taste to it. I really couldn’t figure out where it was coming from in the omelette. But, it left an after taste that I’m still trying to remove from my mouth as I type this. Maybe it was the oil they cooked the food in? I’m not sure. I then tried my girlfriend’s french toast. It was disgusting. I was surprised she ate as much as she did. I turned to her and said, «Babe, this is disgusting». She said, «Really? It’s not just me?». The syrup helped. After the meal, I just chopped it off as being a «Greasy Spoon» experience and then the bill came… the amount was unexpected and NOT a «Greasy Spoon» price. I’ll be honest. I felt a little ripped off because I knew I could get better quality food from a Norm’s, IHOP, or a Denny’s for a lot less. Anyway, 3 hours later and I’m still burping up breakfast with the nasty fishy aftertaste.

First time eating here today and really enjoyed it. Very friendly staff, homey feeling, and delicious food. The only thing I would have changed was a larger selection of breakfast menu items. Other then that I recommend this place and will be back!

March 2014, Sunday breakfast, 11 a.m. I’d passed Fox’s any number of times and had never visited. So one Sunday morning, I visited to take-out two combo breakfasts to enjoy with a senior citizen friend. Yep: *Cozy little neighborhood place, with lots of families and people of all ages. *Friendly service. Nope: *The food was awful, truly awful. Tasteless and unappealing — I was actually embarrassed to have taken it to my friend, like it was a treat. *Check your bag, the muffins were missed in mine. I shouldn’t have cared; they weren’t good. I’ve given 2 stars instead of 1, because I try to support the Mom ‘n Pop places. Maybe it was an off day, but the food was so bad, I won’t go back.

So what does everyone do as soon as they finish Hiking Echo Mountain? They want to grub, shocking huh? Well I was in the same boat with a couple of my Hiking buddies. We had just conquered the Sam Merrill Trail up and the Ridgeline Trail down. We needed some sustenance. This is where we decided to pop in, and it was a wise decision that my friend Anna made. So we all ordered different stuff. Anna had an omelet, Neil had an omelet and a short stack and I got the burger and fries. It was like 11:30 and I didnt wanna just eat carbs, so yeah, BURGERTIME! I was very happy with that decision in the end. However the best part surprisingly enough, were the great french fries… no SERIOUSLYGREATFRENCHFRIES! and a good burger to boot… the hash browns are meh, I stole a nibble from Anna for a few fries… she made out on that trade =\ Pro Tip: Even if the parking lot is empty, anticipate a lot of patrons walked here or parked on the street. The lot had one car in it when we pulled up and I thought the place would be empty. Well half the tables were filled so surprise surprise. This is a great lil joint that you are expected to seat you own sorry butt wherever you want. IE, find a seat that isnt taken, unless you like sitting on some strangers lap, and they want you to do so, and plop down. A lot of families were here while we were wolfing down our just rewards for expending ungodly numbers of calories traipsing around the hills. It looks like everything here is made fresh too. The fruit was freshly cut from several different things(apples, 3 melon types, a couple of banana slices, and I think a berry or two =X but not positive about the berries). The burger had onion mixed into it I think and was really tasty making me enjoy it all the more. But the best thing here were quite simply the french fries, even the server said so… and she was completely correct.
