First time at My Just Desserts… I like the nostalgia of the country store. Very cozy and the old building is a great place. Abraham Lincoln used to practice law in the building. Now, down to business… I had the Chicken Salad and my wife had the Bacon Cheddar Quiche. Bothe were excellent with the quiche just squeaking out on top. The rolls were very warm and soft and dessert is yet to come. I ordered the Cherry Cobbler. I tried my sons Coconut Crème Pie… Very nice! I also tried my wife’s Raspberry Rhubarb. Great taste but I am more partial to Strawberry Rhubarb Pie. Dessert arrived… Cherry Cobbler… 5 star! Excellent choice! Over all a very nice lunch and great atmosphere. Of course I do have to point out one thing… Not sure if the Raspberry tea is home made. It tastes like Brisk out of the soda fountain… I’d stick with unsweetened if possible!

The daily specials make every visit a surprise. The food is delicious. The desserts are amazing. However, the waitresses and the owner are unfriendly and more often than not, just plain rude. Customer service is a high priority on my list. And My Just Desserts just doesn’t cut it. The food is worth the trip, but I’d suggest take out.

I hate to not give 5 stars. The food deserved 5 stars. The staff, drops it down a star or two, but it’s the holiday so I’ll generously give them 4 stars. I had eaten pie here previously. There are no complaints about their pies and cobblers. Delicious. The food is reasonable priced. The bacon potato soup is very good and creamy. The quiche was excellent. A light flaky crust made it just perfect. The staff though, seems to be «busier» than they are. They seemed overwhelmed with the small crowd they had. I don’t think they are used to having more than 3 – 4 tables at a time. Maybe on a slower day I would rate them higher. Today though, they couldn’t seem to keep up with the small demand. There were three waitstaff, a cleaner, and the owner all working. There were 8 tables of customers ranging from a 2 top to a 4 top. Not too many people yet they seem flustered. Didn’t get a refill on water. Only saw waitress long enough to order. Had to go to another waitress to get dessert and then another to follow through with that order. Service rates 2 stars.

It is fall and I was craving a slice of apple pie, and My Just Desserts had just want I needed. I have no idea how many pies they make, but I got a slice of the apple praline with vanilla ice cream. I had a slice of apple, pecans and brown sugar in every bite. The crust was make to perfection and the balance of vanilla ice cream helped balance out the sweetness from the brown sugar. The lady behind the counter was delighted when I redeemed my Unilocal free Toll House Brownie coupon. Now I will have dessert for tomorrow. My motto why bake pie when you can buy it…

The strawberry pie was delicious! When I went over the summer I remember ordering the last piece and I felt bad for the next person in line who wanted it(not really)! I went with my friend to Alton one day and when we needed something for dessert she knew the perfect place and we ended up here. She ordered the mud pie and I had the strawberry pie. We sat in complete silence while we consumed our desserts. They were both heavenly and with the water to wash it down I was quite content. This little spot has some great looking food too, but I’d definitely recommend the desserts.

We stopped here and had a nice lunch. The atmosphere is quaint and cosy. They have gorgeous quilts for sale in addition to food and desserts. The food was delicious. We both had the chicken salad and I don’t know their recipe, but I want it! It had lots of chicken and celery added just the right amount of crunch. I had the pumpkin pie. Again, I don’t know what they put in it but I want their recipe! It was the best pumpkin pie I have ever had! The crust was also fabulous! I also got a taste of the bread pudding and it was DELICIOUS!!! The only reason I gave it four instead of five stars was it was a bit pricey. If you are in the area, check this place out!!!

Pretty good lunch but a little on the expensive side. Sandwich and salad was fresh and pretty tasty. Was a little let down by the dessert. Tollhouse browning was bite sized and the pie we received was not hot and a little too sweet. Cinnamon ice cream was great but the serving was just a little more than a spoonful. All in all I may try it again if I’m in the area.

We used to dine here quite a bit since it’s so close to my work. However, we started noticing that the quality of food was falling short while the nickel and diming was getting to be a regular part of the bill. My friends and I were eating here a few times a week, and the last time we were in, the waitress told us about a lunch special. We ordered it, but when bill time came, we didn’t get the special price. When we asked the manager at check out, she simply said, «your waitress was wrong. Special ended last week.» Did I mention that we’re in here a few times a week? My grilled chicken salads were skimpier and skimpier on the chicken, and they were running out of things all the time. I am sad to say I think we’re moving on to greener pastures. Unfortunate since this place has a lot of potential.

My overall review is its kind of expensive for what you get. First of all the front door needs some kind of spring or something. I had to catch it so it didn’t slam open and shut. Anyway, we had the chicken salad and roast beef sandwiches. Both came with chips and the rb had pasta salad. One was $ 8 and one was $ 9. We had the apple crisp with cinnamon ice cream and the bread pudding. Both the desserts were $ 4.75. The waitress was not real friendly but did the job. The food was good, certainly no complaints there. I overheard from the table next to us that you could swap the bread for a croissant for an extra dollar. All told with tip it was $ 32. I would also add that the age demographic, at least while we were there, was little old ladies.

A great little lunch spot in one of Alton’s historic buildings on what I understand was once a major antique row, East Broadway. From what I understand, the antique stores suffered quite when the area’s first casino, the Alton Belle, was opened. I guess the little old ladies had something new to do. The neighborhood is still very cool, though, if you like historic areas. Some of the buildings on this block are being rehabbed and there is a lot of potential. I’m guessing it will be more developed once the old downtown Alton area just down the hill is all developed and updated(which will be very soon). Anyway, I’ve seen this little dessert place for years, but this is the first time we happened to be here at lunchtime. The ambience is very much suited for the antique shopping crowd, restored but with a lot of historical touches, including plants on each table in little antique planters — ours was for sale for $ 25. They are doing a brisk business during eagle watching season. Service was pretty good, although we had to flag down one of the other waitresses for a refill. The menu is on a chalkboard that might be 15 feet away, so be sure and bring your glasses. I had to walk a few feet toward it to see what I wanted. I didn’t get too many weird looks, so I guess this is normal. We had the chicken salad sandwich, red bean and rice soup, salad and a turkey/cranberry panini. It was all fresh and tasty. Nothing particularly gourmet, but all good and reasonably priced. You pretty much HAVE to get a dessert here. We had a pie that was pretty much pecan pie, but with amaretto flavoring(didn’t really notice) and some walnuts. It was very good, if not as special as it sounded. It’s definitely a solid lunch option if you’re in the area.

Yum! Hubby and I stopped in for a nice, quiet, kid-less lunch just prior to having our second child. It was after the typical rush hour on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. I loved that the menu was small but diverse, changed daily and as the name of the restaurant suggests, an amazing dessert list! The service could have been a little better, but the food and ambiance definitely made up for it. We will definitely be back!!!

I’m a hug fan of Eckert’s Grafton, and usually make a day of it by eating in Grafton. I was there one Sunday morning picking blackberries and peaches, and went to eat in Grafton, and nothing was opening until noon. It was 11am, so we decided to keep driving into Alton to see what was there. We happened by this little place, so we stopped in. I liked it so much that I came back when I went back to Eckert’s a few weeks later to pick honey crisp apples. It’s super cute and airy, and the windows in the back of the dining room look out to the Mississippi. The first time I went here, the service was slow. No one came to our table for close to 10 minutes, and we were actually about to get up and leave when someone did. The second time, we didn’t have that problem and were helped promptly. The drinks are served in mason jars, which is cute! The lemonade here is clearly homemade and really good. PLUS you get refills, unlike most places. They even gave me a cup to go. The menu is pretty small, with soups, sandwiches, and salads. The big menu is of all the desserts they have! There is not much for vegetarians. Just salad. But the salads are really good, and a perfect light lunch before a decadent dessert. I get the house salad — only $ 3.50! The salad comes with a bunch of veggies, like carrots, celery, olives, tomatoes, onions, zucchini, and cheese. It comes with a roll as well. The rolls are to DIE for… hot and fresh, they make them in house. They sell them by the dozen, so get some to take home! I ended my meal with a toll house cookie bar — delicious! Oh, and they sell some cute things in here — cheap quilts! Also, these little cottage gardens, which are plants in various antiques, like a swan, or teacup. I bought a teacup one and it’s really cute! I think this is going to be my stop from now on when I am in the area!

Went with a group from work while visiting Alton from Los Angeles. It was a fantastic little place with just a handful of items on the menu, but there was something for everyone. The desserts were also great, you can’t beat home made pie! My favorite had to be the quilts for sale, they were all different and beautiful. Since leaving the South I never see things like this in California but it was a comfortable place that was warm and inviting.

My parents and I have been going to Just Desserts for over 13 years. In fact, my family threw my high school graduation party here. My parents met for lunch here many times when my dad still worked near the restaurant and they know many of the waitresses by name. Their customer service is excellent. I always get the chicken salad sandwich, some chips, and any dessert they have is delicious. We’re a little partial to their brownies though. They aren’t on the menu/chalkboard but they’re always by the register. Ask them to heat it up and put a scoop of ice cream on it. Trust me. I plan on eating there for many years to come.
