The hibachi grill is the best seat in the house. You get a dinner plus a show. The food is always great, the steaks are not always medium well when u ask for them that way. The service are always nice, especially the cooks, they throw food at you for you to catch in your mouth, they make jokes, they even all have a little squirt bottle of water that looks like a kid going number 1. Awesome place to take the family. Can’t say much on the table service, but the wait may be long if u get their first as u will have to wait on the cook to come out. All-in-all great place

Came here for a late lunch/early dinner and it was completely empty(which is a plus). Place is nice in the day with lots of natural light and servers are very friendly. Portions of the food are awesome and the food itself was great tasting! Only reason it’s NOT5⁄5 is because there was a funny smell in the place and the silverware had dried water stains on it. I’d give this place a 3.5÷5

Truly a great addition to the city of Altoona. There aren’t many sushi places here that serve high quality fish. Although their fish doesn’t taste like a morning catch, you can tell that it’s pretty fresh. The sushi chef is quick to make the food but puts the effort to create flavorful and quality looking dishes. I would have given it a perfect score if it weren’t for the high prices to amount of food actually served. 4⁄5

Took the family for Habachi after a movie. The food was really decent and prepared well. The Sushi was outstanding! My only complaint was the 40+ minutes that we actually had to wait for the Habichi cook. Will try again to see if this is the norm and will report back.

We have been there twice, as my kids love watching table side hibachi. First time, the steak that I ordered medium rare came out over well done. We tried again, and I ordered the filet and lobster. Again, the steak was over done, but the lobster was worse. It sat on the grill for at least 15 minutes — so over done — and when I asked to speak with the manager, she came over, picked up the rubbery lobster with her fingers, squeezed it, put it back on my plate, and said, «it’s okay.» I was so grossed out, I didn’t eat anything else. Horrible place. Pretty, but gross.

Decent place to get hibachi ! Definitely topping there rival Sakura by a long shot. There sushi game is actually good as well. Only issue I had is I found a metal brillo shaving in my food. I made it aware to staff and they gave me a free meal. It was handled very professional! I recommend this place

Waited for over an hour after being told it would be a 10 minute wait and was then subjected to discussing food and bad service! Don’t do it!

This is an excellent Japanese restaurant. The sushi and rolls are extremely fresh and served in large portions. The staff here is super friendly and polite. The hibachi grill here is fantastic. They serve large portions on the grill side also. One thing I really liked was the fact that instead of serving bean spouts for the vegetables, they grilled up mixed vegetables that included carrots, peas, corn, and broccoli. The chef was excellent and able to launch shrimp pieces in my 6 year old nephews mouth! Such accuracy. I spent a month in Altoona visiting relatives and went here twice, but I wish it had been more.

Had a horrible experience. The cook had fancy tricks as expected but was extremely rude and made insults to my grandfather, mother, and myself. Even after I told him I was upset by this the cook continued to make japes at me. It was humiliating and completely ruined my appetite. When the cook saw I was not eating, he proceeded to tell me he would not leave me be till I tried his food. I don’t understand why people would pay good money for food just to be insulted. I will never go back.

This restaurant is a breath of fresh air. First of all the décor is nice. It’s nice, minimalistic, and relaxing. The staff is wonderful. Very friendly, cordial, outgoing and enjoyable to get to know. The food is very good I got nine pieces of sushi, and my family did the hibachi. We went on a weeknight and enjoyed a modest discount. Will definitely be back.

I happened to be in town on business and have been craving Japanese for the past week. I stumbled upon Aki online and their menu looked great; sushi rolls, hibachi, etc. I popped in and the restaurant was completely quiet, or rather dead. I was greeted and asked if I wanted to be seated in the dining room or hibachi grill. Judging from the menu, the hibachi seemed like the perfect bet. Before I took another step, I was told that there’s a minimum of people required for hibachi. That’s a first. I left and went down to Yamoto down the street instead. Two stars for décor… that’s all.

My family had a wonderful experience here. There were 12 of us in total for an early Mother’s Day. Udin was one of the best hibachi chefs I’ve ever seen. He put on an amazing show and had everyone laughing hysterically. I highly suggest this place great to have excellent hibachi in Altoona PA.

I am from a NC beach where we catch tuna fresh and sell them to the local sushi restaurants and this is still the best sushi I have ever had. Great atmosphere as well. I definitely recommend this restaurant!

With well-prepared, beautifully-presented sushi, Aki is a phenomenal addition to Altoona’s restaurant scene. This is the only local restaurant I would recommend for sushi, and I would rate my first meal here(Thai Spicy, Summer Roll and sashimi for my husband) as comparable to sushi I’ve had in larger cities like Harrisburg and Philly. Aki also has a Chambersburg, PA location, and I enjoyed many excellent meals there before moving to Cambria County.

YES! Finally a place in Altoona to get fresh Pad Thai! The ingredients were clearly freshly prepared, and the sushi was generously portioned and delicious. I was extremely satisfied with my meal. We sat in the table/booth area but there is hibachi too, which seemed lively. Interior of the restaurant is really cool too. Love the multicolor light-up bubbling wall feature, I’m sure that will be a hit for kids.
