I did a tasting at the winery once, a couple of years ago, and I’ve also stopped by their mall location. The staff at the mall are always pleasant enough, but the wines just aren’t that good. Not complex, not intriguing. And my one tasting at the actual winery was marred by a rude staffer who left me with a very negative impression of this place. Head up 99 to state college. Plenty of wineries there, and you’ll have a better experience.

The wines at Oak Spring follow the Pennsylvania trend of being cloying. The location off of highway 99 is a winery only; according to the lone gentleman in the tasting room all vines were sold. Oak Springs does source all grapes from Pennsylvania. We stopped by for a tasting around noon on a Saturday and were served our wine in small plastic cups resembling medical portion cups. According to the server, the previous evening’s staff couldn’t be bothered to run the dishwasher. We tried six wines in total and purchased two bottles of what was best by comparison. Unfortunately, later that day without the other Oak Springs wines lingering on our palate, these bottles were borderline undrinkable and went down the drain. The tasting room was Amish-rustic, and the location was walking distance from the highway, and they sell wine. That’s about where the positives end. Can’t say that I’ll be back.

Whenever I’m out of state, I always make a point to visit a local winery. I found this one while visiting Altoona and it was quite enjoyable! The staff is very friendly and most of their selection and pricing is on par with other wineries I’ve visited around the country. My favorites are the apple cinnamon and peach flavored wines. Stop in and try them out. You won’t be dissappointed!

I am from out of state, and enjoy visiting local wineries when traveling. This was one of the worst experiences of customer service I have ever seen. While asking questions and wanting a feel for this winery, I was treated with total distain. We decided not to even sample the wines and left.

As somewhat of a wine connoisseur, I love this small winery. The prices are reasonable and the quality is superb. I would recommend this winery to anyone in the Central Pennsylvania region!

E.X.P.E.N.S.I.V.E!!! This local winery was really good when they first started out, but their prices are now out of control. $ 20 for a locally-made bottle of merlot? Wow! Trying to get rich quick — I wanted to buy some juice concentrate to make my own wine. Their prices were very high! I found the same product online much cheaper. They are trying to charge a whopping 50% more than most internet companies! 50%!!! When I brought this to their attention, their attitude was one of indifference. Therefore, my wallet is indifferent… and not open to them. My suggestion — buy wines at the local Wine and Spirits shops and buy your wine making supplies online and save yourself a ton of money.
