Honestly, I love Fazoli’s food. You can build your own pasta, and it is pretty cheap. Not to forget, their breadstick is very very good, and it is unlimited. But the place could be very messy sometimes. All the tables have not been cleaned up and stuffs up to the point you just don’t want to sit there.

Absolutely horrendous customer service. I’m completely embarrassed for this franchise owner — you would think there would be much higher standards in place. The people working here have zero interest in helping customers and are extremely lazy.

What can I say? I love Fazolis. I stopped in for a $ 5 lunch and was not disappointed. You get your choice of 6 lunch portioned menu items, a soda and as many breadsticks as your heart desires. My heart desired 8 and a side of marinara for dipping and the staff was happy to oblige. The manager dude, Ryan I believe, was awesome. The place was clean with ample seating. I saw someone bussing tables and sweeping pretty frequently during my brief stay. Overall, a solid Fazolis experience.

I’ve always thought that in rating a restaurant you should rate it against what it aspires to be. So, since Fazoli’s does not aspire to sell gourmet Italian food, I did not rate it on that basis; hence, the four stars in this review should not be read to suggest that you will get outstanding Italian cuisine here. However, for what it is, Fazoli’s is quite good. «What it is», of course, is a family-friendly place that is one step up from fast food. It is not terribly cheap, at least by fast food standards; spaghetti and meat sauce, for example, costs five and a half dollars, and if you want a meatball on that you’ll have to pay an extra dollar and a half. Lunch here can quite easily set you back eight or nine dollars by the time you factor in the cost of a drink and tax, which is probably more than one would expect to pay at a Burger King or McD’s. However, the food is considerably better than at either of these places, and a special attraction, at least for me, is the unlimited breadsticks that are available when you dine in; these are usually excellent, particularly when you get a batch that’s «slimy» with garlicky butter on them. The menu changes fairly often, and there is a good selection of pizza(which is not too bad, and has kind of an interesting taste to it), pasta, chicken dinners, sandwiches(including new«melts» that I have unfortunately not had a chance to sample yet) and salads. The service here at the Ames branch of Fazoli’s never fails to impress me: the people are always cheerful and friendly, and during my most recent meal here, a few days ago, no less than three different people came by to ask me whether everything was OK and whether I wanted more breadsticks. If you feel like something Italian and don’t want to go to the trouble and expense of a fancy meal, give this a try.

Fresh — Fast — Italian. And it’s one of the few places left standing at or near the North Grand Mall in Ames. The first Fazoli’s opened in 1988 in Lexington, KY and is part of a national chain of which this branch is the only one I’ve ever encountered. I have only ordered lunch here via their convenient drive-through. You can also sit inside and the selection of pasta, pizza, submarines, salads, and bread sticks is actually fairly impressive. There are also Family Meal, Kid’s Meal, and Sweet Treats available and the cost would even please an Iowa budget. The quantity that I received and how it all tastes were also better than I would expect for fast food of whatever ethnicity.

This isn’t a very extravagant place, and in Ames there is virtually an unlimited number of places you can get pizza from. What sets this apart is that they have a decent-sized area you can eat in, and consistently walk around offering an endless amount of breadsticks… which are very good. The breadsticks are definitely their shining point, but their pizza has a slightly unique taste to it as well. So it won’t just be «another slice» of what you had last night.
