Selection of hardware is small, compared to the local big-box store. Despite the small size, this place is great because of the convenience of having several categories of items. For instance, a few aisles are devoted to small appliances. Great selection of nails.

I stopped in at O’Donnell Ace Hardware a couple times during a recent visit to Ames. The first time was for a roll of duct tape to replace the one that my Son used up at my Parent’s house. I could have gone to the nearby WalMart, but why not buy independent local? Plus, the folks here are really nice and know their merchandise. The second time was to use the handy post office, which is located in the back of the store. The postmistress was very helpful in helping me figure out how to ship a briefcase item for the least money possible. I’ll be back!

Ace stores are terrific, and this one is no exception. Sure, it’s not as big as your Lowe’s or your Menard’s, but it’s locally owned and has nearly everything you need.

Ace Hardware in Ames is the only place I go for all my needs. They are very friendly, have lots of employees so finding help is very easy and they are well stocked with the everyday items I use most often. furnace filters, kitchen stuff, cleaning stuff, batteries, paint, etc and they have a post office branch which saves me gas since I live in N Ames. One stop shop and I’m not giving my money to Walmart and it’s shoddy products.

Ace hardware in North Ames is a great place to go to because it’s convenient and very knowledgeable people working there.
