If you are ever in Ames, this is one place you should not miss. As soon as you walk in the door you are awestruck by all the designs as well as the warm family atmosphere, dog included. The entire family runs the business and Mike and his wife Judy have two great sons learning the trade. The custom designs are extraordinary and whether you are looking for a gift, need a special piece designed or a painting, Mike and his family have it all… creativity, skills, hand made quality of the highest level. Better than I have seen on 5th Ave, Madison Ave, Paris or London. This is true talent and creative genius on every level. I have had more than one piece made and the quality and design is outstanding. One of the many outstanding features is that they will work with your ideas, design aesthetic and take it to the next level. watching Mike work is like walking through the brain of genius. Don’t forget to ask about his paintings!

My wife and I got engaged a little over 2 years ago. My wife is an artist and after looking at a couple of engagement ring stores, she knew she wanted something more unique than those places can offer. We came into Gilger Design and they were able to sketch out my wife’s «dream ring». They even mentioned that they had never created a similar engagement ring before(pear shaped bezel tilted parallel with the band). They created our custom ring, added a wedding band to it later, and were very reasonably priced. She LOVES her ring. We stop in every few months to get it polished and browse. I’m sure I will be getting future gifts for her from them.

When a family owned and operated business is so much a part of a community, you just have to see for yourself what is going on there. From my first step inside the door in the year 2000 to the present, it is such a thrill to see what creation will be part of the«cast of thousands» next. This family business personifies Made in the USA.

My parents got divorced about seven years ago and last year my mom gave me her wedding/engagement ring. This year my brother was planning on proposing to his girlfriend, and as a gift I brought my mom’s ring here. My original idea was to sell the gold and have the diamond reset in a new ring. We discussed removing the wedding band from the engagement ring and cleaning that one up. Upon closer inspection, the crown was damaged and we decided to set the diamond in a new ring. After selling the gold, this cost me $ 140. I went to school with the owner’s son, MJ, and he made me an awesome ring as a birthday present in middle school. I was pleasantly suprised when I went to pick up the ring to see that the ring had a similar unique style. MJ happened to be there and told me he made the ring. Nice to know they’re keeping it in the family! Also, I wish I had the money to purchase some of the owner’s art displayed in the store — so cool!

The owners of this jewelry/art shop really know how to treat a customer, even if you are just browsing and have some questions. The jewelry is varied between eccentric and colorful, to classic vintage pieces. The art is incredible and worth going in to appreciate and possibly even add to your collection. I had a ring cleaned up and will be back to get another looked at to be fixed. Wonderful place to stop on Main Street!
