MASH Urgent Care

22 yr old son went there for swelling and pain of his right elbow that started several weeks prior. He was seen by a PA who did a visual exam and touch exam and said he had «tennis elbow»…no x-​rays were done. He was told to take 800 mg of ibuprofen.
Now it’s worse. Had to see a specialist, more x-​rays and meds. Not happy with MASH.

Went in at 11am. Have a really bad infection. Was instructed to come back, so I did. Was told it would be an hour wait. 3 hours later I had no choice but to leave this place having received 0 treatment because guess what people… some of us only get 1 day off a week and actually need you to honor the time frames you give. Next time just be honest with me so we don’t end up wasting 3 hours of each others time. Unbelievable. Now I’m still in pain, still infected, still out of luck.

Worst medical treatment ever. If I could rate this –5 stars, I would. My brother and sister-​in-​law were seen by «Dr» Lodze Steckman. She discredited everything they said and her bedside manner was insulting. As an ICU nurse, I sent them there hoping they would receive adequate care. Instead their symptoms were discredited, their questions unanswered and the doctor even walked out of the room without responding to a question that was asked. I will be investigating futher avenues to register complaints on this «doctor». It’s doctors like her that make people not want to seek medical attention. Save your time and your money and go elsewhere.

Absolutely terrible. I went to urgent care a couple nights ago because I had been sick for a couple days and without a primary doctor I decided to go here which I will never do again.
I had a terrible cough — my chest hurt– dizzy and my heart rate was up.
Staff was friendly but the «doctor» was not.
As soon as she walked in the examination room before even examining me she told me what I didn’t have. All she did was listen to my heartbeat. Said once again I was fine and what I didn’t have. Very rude.
Anyways she gave me a chest xray and said I was fine and prescribed me allergy medicine!
Well I’m not a doctor and I’m pretty sure she wasn’t either because I don’t have allergies.
So I went to the ER which is where I shouldve gone to begin with.
Needless to say, once my vitals were taken at the ER they immediately took me back and had to give me an ekg, breathing treatments, steroids (to open my airways), another chest xray and two bags of fluid because I was severely dehydrated the Doctor said.
Due to my heart rate-​I couldn’t leave for 4 hours; once I was stabilized… the doctor said I had a bad case of bronchitis.
I will never go back to Dent!
Whoever I saw that night was the bottom of the barrel «doctor» who needs their license to practice taken away

Dent Tower location. There are some very good things about this location. I’ve been here twice and both times service has been fairly quick and easy.
They have reserved parking which is excellent. So no issues there.
The front desk service is pleasant. But my goodness are they focused on getting paid. The first time they just billed me. No problem. This recent time (perhaps 18 months apart) they said no billing. Only payment upfront. Um ok. I have a credit card. But what about someone who may not have a credit card and may not have cash in hand? You turn them away?
The service has been quick and the nurses and Drs fine to me. The recent dr spoke to me like I might be hard of hearing, which drove me nuts, but it did cut down on any questions I might have asked. Could not wait to get out of there… But I suppose most people feel that way.
I can only do three stars because of the front desk focus on payment. But I’ll be back if I have another urgent need. Easy parking and competent (if loud) dr.

This is my 4^th time at mash on Niagara falls blvd. since they have opened. the first 2 times were great when they were now.
Now it is a disgrace. My dog gets better care at the vet! The doctors name who saw me was i believe Dr. Miller or something like that.
This last time I went in, receptionist very nice and kind. Nurse ah so so had that little crazy look to her to be honest.
The doctor a complete ass, bottom line. I tell him just got back from trip on plane, ears hurt head, dizzy, bad breath, I no sinus etc. He looks in my ear i mean hardly looks says fine! then in throat I mean 1 second, says you don’t drink enough fluids. Now I can tell you I am a pure water drinker, day night, glass or bottle always with me, so wrong on that doc!
Says I am going to put you on antibiotic. I say ok Thank you what kind. Immediately he gets that defensiveness. Amoxicillin, I said hmmm that doesn’t really work great in me makes me sick. He said like what stomach? I said yes, HIS EXACT WORDS «IF IT DOESN’T SEND YOU TO EMERGENCY ROOM YOU’LL BE FINE». WHO TALKS THAT WAY??? I let it slide went to pharmacy got it filled. Took for 3 days (fortunately off from work) it does nothing call back receptionist answers. Explain to her what happened she says you need to come in, um no I said I am not coming in I just want to speak to someone on duty because this is wrong. She gets cocky, little Miss NO IT ALL. and says to me sorry your fault you should have told the doctor, I said oh really my fault a doc would give me something that doesn’t agree with me and then says a comment like that. In any event a new doc got on phone he was nice after I told him what doc said and he called in another prescription for me.
Last time I was there the doc was a very strong ny accent. Rude rough, complaining out front behind desk to others about the work this place, etc. etc. Not a nice feeling, bottom line he just out and out sucked too.
So conclusion MASH urgent care is not getting staff the way they should be getting them. When I first went when they first opened very nice doc both times. Iam sure they up and ran the heck outta there.
I would go to another urgent care, I am done with MASH until I hear things improve. I will be sending this to corporate too!

Beware! They asked me to pay the total amount for the visit upfront and said I would be reimbursed. They filed a claim with my health plan, which promptly sent them the money. MASH a.k.a. MEDFirst is a network provider for my plan. That means they should have charged me only the co-​payment to begin with (I should have walked away but I was in pain and didn’t have time to go elsewhere!). It took me four weeks to reach someone in their billing office, and I was told rudely (the person, named Kim, made fun of my last name) that they only cut checks once a month. It took nearly four months for me to receive compensation for the visit for which they never should have charged me in the first place. What does «in-​network» mean to them?

I had high hopes for this MASH urgent care. My first experience was stellar, but each time since then has been nothing but uncertainty and aggravation. The women working behind the desk who sign you in for appointments couldn’t be sweeter. They are always in a good mood, even when they’re not. The wait time is going to vary, you know it’s like anywhere, you come in with chest pain, you’ll been seen quicker than an individual coming in for a sprained ankle. The nurses who do the initial assessment are usually nice and thorough. However, the last couple times I have been, it seems their equipment has not been working properly. The last time I came here my SPO2 reading was 89, alarming, however nothing was said about the levels until I was about to be discharged. Also, I had a fever recently, came in, my temperature was taken and it said 97.9. I thought it was so strange, so I pulled out my thermometer that I brought with me in my purse and still had my fever. In case my thermometer wasn’t working properly, I went to CVS upon discharge, bought another thermometer. Turns out it was the clinic whose thermometer wasn’t reading accurately. That’s a major problem. When you go in for your initial assessment, the nurses have no basis to go off of for what your normal heart rate and BP are. This is why it is so important to have good communication with your nurse so they can understand when levels may be abnormal for a particular patient. When my blood pressure was taken, it was normal, but high for me. When I told the nurse this, she completely ignored me and showed me to an examination room. I didn’t like that for obvious reasons.
The last couple times I have been here I’ve waited in an exam room for over an hour. I would much rather be in an exam room than in the waiting room with other sick patients so I can’t complain too much about that. I think they only have one attending physician assistant on at at time, which doesn’t seem like nearly enough. The last time I came here, the physician was in and out in about twenty seconds. He listened to my lungs and diagnosed me with bronchitis. He prescribed antibiotics without ever asking me how I felt about the particular ones he had chosen. When I inquired about the ones he prescribed me, he didn’t have time to come back to the room to explain himself. He was too busy. That’s not okay with me. In 90% of cases, acute bronchitis does NOT require antibiotics so this prophylactic method did not sit well with me. When you give out antibiotics like they are candy, you run into huge problems. It bothered me because there is a HUGE sign on the door that says, «ANTIBIOTICS WILL NOT MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER IF YOU HAVE A VIRUS.» What’s your mission here, MASH?
Another time I came in here I was having chest pain and it turned out I had a strained muscle. Without explaining, a nurse came in and said she was going to be giving me a shot. Of what? Come on people, communication is key here. I am in the health field so I am not a dummy when it comes down to medications and I would like to know what I am being given and why. Turns out she was giving me a pain killer and ALSO told me she was giving a prescription for 800mg of Advil. She instructed me to pick up this prescription and take immediately after leaving here. I did as she told. Come to find the particular painkiller she gave me has SERIOUS and potentially LIFE THREATENING side effects when paired with Advil. I spent the entire night on the phone with a nurse provided by my insurance company monitoring my symptoms until all of this medication was out of my system. What a nightmare.
Ultimately, I do not feel like i am getting the best care when I come here. Doctors push medication without really taking the time to listen to what a patient is saying and search for a deeper more accurate diagnosis. I won’t be back.

Two stars is a little generous. I had a quirky labor day mini crisis and went to MASH rather than the ER. I know long weekends are not the right moment to see the best-​and-​brightest at work, but boy — this crew really made a bad impression. There were hardly any clients, I was obviously distressed, worried and in some pain — they took their own sweet time, condescended to me, and helped little. I felt like a commodity.
Fortunately my primary was kind enough to immediately respond to my email — even emailed to follow up the next day. I felt like he was 1) competent and 2) cared. This contrasted with the Mash staff — their primary interest was what they were going to do at the end of their shift. awful.

I had gotten hurt at work and possibly needed stitches so I decided an urgent care place would be quicker than going to the emergency room. I had been taken to a room pretty quickly but when we got there, there were finger nail clippings and ants on the floor. I was disgusted. Once I saw the physicians assistant (not the doctor) she was pretty friendly in the beginning until we had asked to correct something on our discharge paperwork. They had the completely wrong part of my body listed that was injured. That’s outrageous! She had then come back into the room and scolded us for asking to correct THEIR mistake! The only person that was not rude was our nurse! She had came to give me a shot that I had to remind them about! I will never go here again and would advise anyone else to do the same.

I have had a bad ankle sprain for a few months. I decided to finally get it X-​rayed. The doctor came in once and looked at it. He then never came back! It was the X-​Ray tech that gave me my results and wrapped my ankle. Completely rediculous and totally unprofessional. I do not recommend them.

My medical exam was conducted by an assistant to a physicians assistant. The PA just came in to talk to me after the assistant explained my case. If you want to be seen by a physician, or at the very least have your exam conducted by a prescriber, you may want to go elsewhere.
Also, they had me wait in the exam room for a half hour after the exam was done before I had to go out and remind them I was in there so I could get my discharge sheet (which directed me to use the drops for my eye infection in my ears).

I was always nervous about checking out one of these new urgent care shops, but after going once, I’ll never go to the E.R. again.
I rolled my ankle playing basketball and it swelled up immediately after the injury. Not having the best health insurance (high deductible plan), I planned on waiting atleast a day before going to get it checked out. The pain/​swelling did not subside and actually became worse after the first night. I decided that I needed to get it checked out, so I called M.A.S.H. to inquire about X-​Rays and how soon I could get in. The receptionist was very polite and told me that they were $ 135. I figured I could swing that, so I decided to go have my ankle checked out.
I went on a Sunday afternoon around 12:30pm and signed in at the reception desk. The waiting room seemed full, but I figured it was no worse than the E.R. at Kenmore Mercy would have been. To my surprise, I only waited about 15 minutes. A nurse took me to an examination room and took my vitals after I waited for the physician. Doctor Scott, who turned out to be a really cool, helpful dude, checked me out and sent me down the hall for X-​Rays. Luckily everything came back negative, and Dr. Scott informed me that I had a severe high ankle sprain, which would require some attention and rest. Upon exiting, the nurse told me that my copay was $ 0 and everything was covered under my insurance, which was an awesome surprise.
All-​in-​all, the whole staff was extremely helpful and courteous, the place was very clean, and the medical examination was quick and efficient. I really didn’t mind getting checked out, which is something that I would have avoided in the past due to normal E.R. circumstances. Very happy with my service and I hope I never have to return, but will if necessary!

The staff was really nice. I waited 1.25 hrs before being brought back to room. When you are sick it feels like 5 hrs. The basis of these locations are to avoid the ER and wait at the ER.
I would go there again though. The Dr. was attentive and the nurse was very thorough. I spent 2.5 hrs there total. Facility was clean and they had complimentary coffee.
