I got the doubled bacon cheeseburger. It was good, decent meat portion, fresh lettuce and tomato, the chest was a little different. It was melted on to the bun, not the meat which made the burger a little dry. It also made me wish fort the melted goodness of cheddar. The tots and fries were crispy and salty good. It was a little odd to watch the employees parked in the car hop slots. You’d think that they would want to keep those clear for paying customers. The food was good, not great and the place is run a bit odd by the young staff.

I recently ate here, as I like to support«local». The picture we saw in a flyer showed a traditional cheeseburger with all of the fixings, lovingly assembled in the ad. It looked fabulous. The sandwich I received looked nothing like it was represented to be in the ad. The patty seemed cool, cooked through but not hot and the lettuce, slice of tomato and condiments were thrown together in a haphazard way. As for the fries that came with the sandwich, they were hot, but unseasoned. Little to no salt on them and they seemed to be poured out of a bag. The people staffing were less then enthusiastic, not unfriendly but just there. Not a good value for the price, I feel.

If we hadn’t eaten inside the establishment, I might’ve given this place 3 stars. The food was fast food quality or just a hair above it. I tried the fish and chips, and the chowder. It was ok if viewed as a fast food meal rather than diner food. But what really turned me off was the condition of the place. It’s run down and looks like the owners just don’t give a damn. The booth seats were stained and worn out. The windows were dirty and crawling with gnats. There were also a few flies we had to regularly swat away. The fries were tasteless but I was NOT going to even touch the ratty old ketchup bottles sitting on the tables. The whole interior looks like nothing has been changed since the ‘80s, but not in a deliberately cutesy retro way. You have to think, if this is what the front looks like, what’s going on in the kitchen? I don’t know how we ended up here. Only positive was the service.

We needed a quick bite for lunch before we boarded the ferry. This place totally hit the spot. Burgers were affordable, but really tasty. Fries were great. Kids burger wasn’t a total rip off. I thought about just giving this place three stars. Not many drive-ins rise to the level of 4 star. However, the giant frosty mugs for the rootbeer put Fidalgo’s over the top. If I’m ever waiting on a ferry, this is where you can find me.
