Seems like a good guy. Assessed my friend’s camera which took a dunk in the Pacific Ocean. Showed us why it was a lost cause but didn’t charge us anything to assess it. Tipped him anyway for checking it for us.

Everything in this place is super old-​school and dusty, but I love it! It feels like a crazy vintage camera repair shop. I came in here to get my front shutter fixed. Mike examined it and told me that he’d have to disassemble it. He gives you a ticket with your order number and his phone number on it so don’t lose it! He doesn’t call you to let you know when it’s ready; you’d have to call him instead, but it doesn’t bother me. The place may not look like it, but he’s pretty freaking organized. Mike is a super nice guy who’s knowledgable with cameras. I’d def recommend coming to him for your camera repairs!

Don’t bother. I took my Canon lens to this location and shouldn’t have even consider Camera Tech as an option. This place is filthy. Dust everywhere. If their front end has inches of dust, imaging the workstation. As for the service itself, you have to call him as he won’t ever call you. I dropped off my lens, waited a week, called and was told it needed a part and the cost was going to be $ 140. He told me to call in him 2 weeks. 3 weeks later I called and he said he was waiting for the part to arrive. 2 more weeks pass and I call again as I hadn’t heard from him, still no part. I waited another week 2 weeks and called, NO PART YET! I told him if it wasn’t ready by Monday (it was currently Wednesday) to put it back together so that I could pick it up and take it to Canon in Costa Mesa. He was brash and said, come pick it up now. When I got there he apologized for his tone and made excuses as to the parts still.
I took it to Canon and 1 week later it was done, $ 143 and they replaced the front assembly and rear mount, plus I got a new front and rear cap set. No hassle, no mess, no bad service, just a great experience.
Bottom line, if it’s not an antique camera or lens, don’t take it here. Even if it was, would you really want to trust such a messy business?

Don’t fall for the gimmicks of a fancier place; the second you step into Mike’s shop, you can tell he’s a camera buff. The guy is an expert, he is surprisingly organized given the old computer ticketing system and he is very helpful. He had helped fix my Sony NEX awhile ago when I pretty much had given up on it; it would not start. After he fixed it, it worked beautifully.
Since then it’s broken again but it’s not his fault. I’m going to go back and see if he can help me out again.
I highly recommend him. He’s an expert and he charges very reasonably.

Stay Away! Nice man but I think he is not able to repair any camera beyond old mechanical cameras. I have tried him on a few occasions and have been disappointed at the quality, time and thoroughness of the repairs. If you call there is always an excuse as to why or how come the item wasn’t completely fixed.

Mike was awesome, I have came by with my 24 – 70 f2.8 with the filter ring damage. I would not have been able to make it to the other camera shop I was recommended as they quoted me lower but I was on a time crunch because I needed the thread fixed so I can put a filter on it for my event shot in a sandy windy environment and needed to protect the front element. I was glad that he was able to match the price and complete it quickly. It helped me cause I’m just a photographer that shoot for non profit organization and school. I would come back here to get anymore of my gears fixed if they needed too. He was great as well as chatting with him was great too. He may be a bit aged but he is sharp and great.

This is an incredibly overdue and well-​earned 5 stars.
In 2011, I took a lens in awful condition to Mike for cleaning and repairs, and it’s thanks to him that it’s become one of my go-​to lenses.
The beat up Angenieux 17−68÷2.2 Type L2 I brought him had haze, fungus, and, as I learned from Mike later, saltwater corrosion! I wasn’t sure how much could be done, but the work Mike did ended up surpassing my wildest expectations. In a week, he managed to thoroughly clean the lens inside and out and returned it to me with the glass nearly pristine save for some etching left by the fungus. The price he charged was incredibly reasonable, and in the 5 years since, I’ve not had any issues with the lens, with no recurrence of haze or fungus.
So if you have a lens you think is beyond hope, don’t hesitate to bring it to Mike. You may end up pleasantly surprised.

My favorite little camera shop! Mike is the man! Got my camera fixed (didn’t even realized i had a problem with it until he inspected it.) and my lens fixed within a day for a reasonable price and just in time for my big camping trip tomorrow! He even fixed my lens cap and cleaned the insides of my camera for free! :)
He’s honest and does not play any games with his customers.
My girlfriend and I will definitely keep coming back to this shop!

Best camera repair shop. Worth the drive from anywhere. Mike is awesome. Totally honest and super knowledgeable. Wished more repair businesses were like this.

Came here to get a vintage Kodak Pony 135 Model B repaired, the shutter was all gunked up. He took it and made it good as new! A decent price, interesting shop, and quite the character!

I used to go to a small shop in Garden Grove, Unfortunately they closed.
Started looking for an alternate shop that was similar. Saw reviews for a similar shop and it was not too far from me
Dropped off my lens last days of May 2015 (not sure exactly what date exactly).
Said to call him in 2 weeks so he had enough time to figure out what was wrong with my Canon lens.
Called him 2 weeks later June 2015 and advised it was a mount replacement.
I have a wedding at the end of this month in less than a week. (July 2015).
Called him so I could pick up this lens because its been well over 1 month since I talked to him and there is no status.
Mike advised he doesnt know when it will be ready and he said he would call me back.
A few weeks ago he had said it would be 1 – 2 weeks and now there is no status…
No, That doesnt work for me, Ill pulling my lens from his shop.
I already reserved my lens from a rental shop because Mike obviously is not able to provide timely service or estimated times. Ill be lucky if he calls me back.
Not worth the headache. Wish I still had my little shop in Garden Grove I could go to.
Would have loved to recommend this place, Mike is a great guy but his service… Not great at all.

I can’t say enough good things about Mike and his business. We had a last-​minute broken camera when we arrived in the area to attend VidCon… and a working camera was a must, ASAP! Where other sources shrugged and said, «buy a new lens» (to the tune of $ 250+), Mike repaired the lens for a fraction of the cost in just a few hours. Delightful gentleman with a love of photography equipment and a real charmer to chat with. A real old-​school craftsman. If I’m ever troubled with a broken camera or lens, I hope I happen to be in Orange County, because I know where to go to set things right!

The shop is a dusty monument to old school photography and owner is a total character. He is not a well organized guy but totally honest and very fair. Most important he is very knowledgeable and honest. I was nervous about dropping my expensive pro lens off and it took longer than expected, but the price was more than fair and he did a cleaning for free on my camera too. I’ll definately go back.

I don’t understand what the aesthetics of his shop have to do with his ability to do his job. I think his shop is amazing, it’s like a museum inside. As for his ability, he did an excellent job on my Canon and at a very reasonable price. My camera was ready when he said it would be and I will recommend him to my friends and coworkers.
If you’re looking for cookie-​cutter décor, then by all means find a chain store that will serve you. The next time I need my camera fixed or even just cleaned, I’m taking it back to Camera Tech.

I don’t even know where to begin. After driving around for too long trying yo find the place (my husband dropped off). They never answer the phone and worker told me he was late getting in. When I finally found the store Mike couldn’t locate my lens. After he had told my husband everything was ready he could not locate our lens. When he finally did IT HAD NOT BEEN FIXED. He did fix it after another 1 ½ hours waiting in his dumpy little hole in the ground. Also he tried to tell me the estimate was only for part of the job. Oh heck no!!! I’m super mad my husband left our camera here, one look inside should send anyone running for the hills. I’m quite disappointed I even have to give it one star, why is zero not an option.

Mike is awesome, I went there to repair my D800 — that NIKON wouldn’t touch at all, despite the fact that I have NPS and that the camera was still under warranty… Trust me, save your money, buy second hand ! And insure your gear ! Nikon camera are awesome, the only way it stop working is when you drop it on the ground or in water, which void any manufacturer warranty.
But the worse is that they wouldn’t repair it even if I pay for it. The frame was compromise due to a shock and they don’t repair a camera if there is the smallest dent on the frame !
So yes.
Anyway Mike managed to fix it, it wasn’t cheap but much cheaper than what Nikon would have charged if they would have done it, and much cheaper than buying a new camera !
He also fixed the the aperture control stick that was broken on one of my lens. And the mount on an other one. I was surprised by how cheap it was !
Bottom line, if you have some camera to repair and it’s not under warranty (check first with the manufacturer, we never know), then bring it here ! He’s good, fast and very friendly.
His shop could use some good cleaning though !

The shop is dark inside, but it’s awesome because of all the cameras he has laying around. It’s like a camera crematory, since they’re all gutted up and dead. Every time I visit Mike, the camera tech, there’s always new old cameras I find. I always ask him if I could buy one and if he could fix it, but it’s usually a no haha. Mike is such a nice dude and he always fixes/​cleans my cameras with such quick turnaround times. He’s the only guy I’ve been able to trust with all of my old film cameras which I still use. I really like that I can go to him for advice and when I can’t find a manual online for an old camera he usually knows how it works and teaches me.

After reading all the reviews here on Unilocal,I decided to drop off my Fuji x100. The power switch broke and Fujifilm wanted $ 250 for it. Mike, the owner, fixed it for $ 140. Not only he fixed it, he replaced most of outside panels so my X100 looks virtually new! Really happy with the price and service. And last but not least, Mike is a gentleman.
