I had sweet Groupon Deal that I bought through Ebates to receive some cash back.
The Deal was 3 — $ 8 coupons. I’ve tried the affogato, hokey pokey affogato, the mexican hot chocolate, and the c3 bomb. All good drinks that I wouldn’t pay full price for.

After buying a steal deal Groupon some time last year, we always tried to make it a point to come here and try out their stuff. Well of course our Groupon was going to expire REALLY soon so we ended up coming here twice within the same week to get the most bang for our buck before we lost out on money! It’s a cute little area that’s stuck in between two restaurants, which makes it the perfect place to pick up some dessert and sweets after getting a good meal in. After pretty much getting most of everything on their menu, I’d say that most of the things on the menu are just«okay» if anything. However, two things that stand out and you MUST get: the Hokey Pokey Affogato and the Mexican Hot Chocolate. Hokey Pokey Affogato: After being introduced to what affogato is just some time late last year, I was instantly a fan. The perfect mix of coffee and ice cream could make a miserable day and turn it around for me. With that being said, their Hokey Pokey Affogato is nothing like any other affogato I’ve tried! What really makes this thing stand out is the chantilly cream, honey, AND the crystallized honey that were in it. This thing was so filled with delicious sweetness that it takes about a 12oz cup to hold everything together! Mexican Hot Chocolate: The woman that took our order and helped us out warned us that it would be spicy due to the cayenne pepper and she really wasn’t kidding. If you’re into Mexican hot chocolate in general and can take the heat, this is your drink right here! After one brief sip, I knew there was no way I would drink any more of it since it left a dry lingering burning sensation in my throat! Fortunately, my girlfriend loved the taste and had no problem whatsoever downing the thing. Frozen Hot Chocolate: Nothing that really popped out to me with this one. If anything, you can expect it to be a variation of a chocolate smoothie. It wasn’t horrible, but definitely not something that I would ever go back for… or at least not pay for out of my own pocket. Affogato: A bit cheaper than the Hokey Pokey but you’ll immediately realize you should have coughed up a little more for the Hokey Pokey upgrade. If it wasn’t for the ice cream(we suspect from Han’s Ice Cream), this thing would have been a joke in my opinion. The coffee they used to make this affogato just didn’t seem to do well with me in terms of making it a true affogato. If anything, it was lacking in that strong kick that you would normally get with a shot of espresso with the ice cream. Again, I would never come back to order a plain Jane affogato from here, even if it was free. Pro Tip: If you somehow end up having both the Mexican Hot Chocolate AND Frozen Hot Chocolate, try mixing the two together by sipping some Frozen after the Mexican; it gives a nice balance when done properly.

I LOVE Mexican hot chocolates/abuelitas. I’ve had them from so many different coffee shops all over. The spicy kick of cayanne and cinnamon combined with rich chocolate is such a treat. I thought a Mexican hot chocolate from Dark180 sounded like the perfect way to end an evening at the Packing House, with something warm to walk to my car with. If you’ve ever been to the Packing House on a Saturday night, it’s pretty much chaotic. There was one lady in front of me ordering a drink, so I stood directly behind her. Then, another party walked up and stood off to the side of her. The gentleman working that evening then directed me that«the line starts over there,» sending me to wait behind the customers who had arrived after me. Grumble. Ordered my drink, pricy but I figured it would be worth it. Treat yo self, am I right? It was hard to hide my disappointment when he handed me the tiniest cup of hot chocolate I’ve ever seen. Really? That’s it? Well ok, I bet it’s really tasty. Took a first sip and was SHOCKED at the amount of cayanne in this drink. There’s an art to finding the perfect balance in a Mexican hot chocolate and THISISNOTIT. The spice should linger on your palette, not completely overpower the chocolate. I managed to only get through three small sips before realizing this was undrinkable. I was able to cut it with twice as much hot chocolate the next day and salvage it a bit, but good god, I shouldn’t have to work this hard to enjoy your product. AND pay that much for it.

Wow. This place is why I love the packing district. You can’t go wrong when high quality, unique products are paired with an unbelievably great customer service. Miguel is the epitome of how every employee should treat the place they work at. I asked him if he owned the chocolate booth and he said«yes kind of, well not really but I treat this place like I own it.» When employees are this passionate enthusiastic to come into work and promote a product, it gives me relief in knowing what I am buying is most likely going to be worth it. Miguel also gave us recommendations and samples of the hot chocolate and the Mexican hot chocolate. They were both delicious but the samples helped me in picking the most amazing, creamy, decadent, and rich hot chocolate I’ve ever had. It was topped with a home made whipped cream and shaved chocolate. It was heaven. Simply put, the best hot chocolate ive ever had in my life. Paired with most likely one of the best customer services I’ve had as well. I love the packing district.
