When I got out of my car and whiffed the pungent air of garbage, I wondered if I made the right choice of eating here. I was surprised two of my Unilocaly friends have given this place 4 stars, but after taking a bite of their food all doubts faded away. I got their chicken soup, carnitas taco, and a wet burrito. The place is pretty small with about 4 tables and 2 booths. There is a juke box in the corner and one small restroom. The chicken soup was sooo good. Just really good home cooking that reminded me of my childhood. You can tell the broth is made by cooking the chicken for hours and that a lot of love went into it. A bit of lime, cilantro and onions, a dash of salt and you’re good to go! The carnitas on the taco was very well done, it was probably one of the better tacos I have had. Flavorful, moist, fresh, just all around good. The wet burrito was pretty good as well. The lady at the cash register was very nice, answered any questions we had, and brought our food to the table. Free chips and salsa are also served. Honestly this place is just good home cooking. I am definitely going to have to come back for their menudo as they didn’t have menudo when I went. I can’t speak much about the cleanliness or food safety of the restaurant as I didn’t observe much, but I did see a small child in the back. Notes: yes it’s right across the garbage sorting and truck exchange center, and yes the air smells. Inside the restaurant there is no smell. The customers are all mostly working people getting lunch as it is a very industrial area. It’s not worth a drive out, it’s just good if in the area. Food is served a little on the slow side but that’s because everything is made to order and so fresh.

I work down the street and I’ve gone here a few times now. I like this place because we all work in this industrial area where there’s nothing to eat. Most days I bring my own food but every now and then I don’t and this place is very convenient. So convenient i just walk there. The carne asada burrito the carne asada is too salty but its probably because i don’t eat out much and most places use a lot of salt. Its huge too and I never finish it. The tortas are huge too and I always end up cutting it in half. Today I tried the Torta Ranchera and damn it was good! So far that’s my favorite thing there! I think next time that’s what I’ll have again. The staff is very nice and friendly. I always go a bit before 11 am to beat the rush. The only bad thing is its across the street from that stinky recycling plant.

This place drops off flyers to our office every month, so finally my coworker and I decided to give it a try, since $ 2.99 for a breakfast burrito is a much better deal than the lunch truck which charges $ 5. We called in our order and the girl who answered said they would be ready in 10 minutes, and when I arrived, they just started to make the burritos, and I was charged $ 8.62 for two burritos! When I questioned why the price was higher than the $ 2.99 that was advertised on the flyer that was dropped off last week, she said«the price went up». TOTALBS. Do not give your money to this place that baits you with a $ 2.99 flyer and then charges you $ 3.99 once you actually show up!(see uploaded photo)

I forgot about this little hole in the wall place, but after coming across a menu and picking it up for lunch, I honestly have absolutely no idea how I could have forgotten it! I got a carne asada sope and a carnitas taco and both were pretty phenomenal. I will definitely be coming back!

It’s gems like these I dream of finding. Thank you Hion for the heads up for when I came here I was in for way more of a treat than I could have ever imagined! ***First things first… I’m not the biggest fan of Carnitas(because up until this visit it has never managed to impress me,) but this place by far has THE best carnitas I’ve had anywhere… and take this from a guy who grew up in a Mexican household! That being said I started off with the Carnitas Sope(but you can have whatever meat you want): Now for those of you unfamiliar with a Sope they are very similar to a Tostada, but with a much thicker and Masa based shell on bottom that does need to be cut with utencils. As you can see they piled on all that tender, juicy, and well seasoned shredded pork, freshly shredded lettuce, juicy ripe tomatoes, smooth and tasty refried beans, shredded cheese, and a little bit of sour cream on top and what transpired was pure bliss. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I also tried a little bit of their Signature Dish the Torta Ahogada(with Carne Asada): which while slightly less impressive was still quite good. Now normally Tortas(or Mexican Sammies) are not wet, but as you can see this one is drenched in their über-spicy red sauce. While I loved their sauce and fluffy bread I found myself a little underwhelmed by their Carne Asada. I would have though big chunks would have brought big flavor, but it didn’t. The steak wasn’t bland, but it certainly was not as flavorful as I’ve had elsewhere. The servers here are are quite nice and prove as eye candy in their tight scantilly clad dresses. The seating area is kind of small and the place is outfitted in beer and soccer signage. The closed door does a great job of keeping the stinky stench of the nearby waste management company! Outside… Peeeeeeeeeeeeee UUUUUUUUU Inside… Ahhhhhh the wafting aroma of delicious Mexican Food. Their prices are very fair for the portion sizes! There is plenty of parking in their lot!

I was caddy corner to this joint when I went to recycle a ton of bottles n cans and decided to grab a quick bite to eat as well. So I found this place close by and with my lust of tacos, its being Tuesday, and well yeah I couldn’t resist! I must say that the Taco Tuesday special with taco’s about a buck a pop 3 for $ 3.20 out the door was a decent price. Pro Tip: They will serve you your alcoholic beverages to you and they can pour it for you(Styrofoam cup) or you can guzzle it from the bottle. So I stroll in and find the place virtually deserted except for the gal on the phone and the cook I hear rattling around in back. She takes about 2 – 3 minutes to get off the phone and takes my order. She seemed to speak good English. So I order a Chorizo, Pastor, and Pollo street taco. Out they come about 5 – 10 minutes later and I get a bucket of hot sauce to go with it. Well I got shocked by this place big time… I open my big mouth and stuff a bite of the chorizo taco into my mouth and after about 2 – 3 more I realize that the chorizo has a small kick to it which was not expected. So being the stupid glutton for punishment that I am, I toss the hot sauce on it too and am underwhelmed… I thought I was going to get some FIRE and I got a(subcase) tepid. Ohhh well… The chorizo seemed a bit mushy as well almost«taco bell» meat consistency! The pollo was average at best… nothing great nothing crappy… The Pastor was average tasting but was actually sliced off the vertical spit or so it seemed to me. The flavor needed help but the meat was solid. The hot sauce didn’t help much either… Overall it was kinda average to say the most and I don’t believe I will be back…

I work pretty close to Ricas Tortas so a few of us went for lunch today. I remember going here a number of years ago when it had a different name. It being my birthday I skipped b-fast so I could have a little extra lunch. As others mentioned it is right across the street from the dump transfer station. And it friggin stinks when you get out of your car, but once inside the food smells erase the stench outside. Decore, not much as this is a Workman’s filling station. Not a place to bring a date. Service with a smile, as we were greeted by a pretty friendly young lady who told us about the days specials. I already had a plan… carnitas torta and asada taco. ***Complementary chips & salsa for the table, thin homemade chips with a watery OK salsa. My food orders: ****Carnitas torta was very good, tender meat with beans, lettuce and a little salsa. I added a little salt and a lot more of the salsa from the squeezy bottle that was a little tastier than the other. *** Asada taco(the litmus of a taco joint) was OK but nothing special. Others food: ****Shredded beef taquitos plate W/rice & beans.2 Big(think 3x Albertos size) hand made rolled fresh with a bed of lettuice, very good, beans I tried and liked, rice meh. **** Ranchera torta(daily special) was very good with a spicy shredded beef, lettuce tomatoes, cheese and salsa. I got to try this one too and liked it as much or more than my carnitas torta. **** Pastor tacos, looked a little greasy but said they were good. ****Asada burrito to go for coworker said he liked it a lot. **Churro under cooked ****Mexican bottled Coke, love that sugary stuff. Pretty clean for a hole in the wall, plenty of seating. The expected Mexican joke box blasting Tejano jams and beach(??) soccer on the TV. A mostly Hispanic crowd but it didn’t feel like you were trapped in TJ either. Good lunch spot. Might be coming back sooner than later. I’ll be back

This food is best eaten here. The red hot sauce is awesome! I want to drink it. This isn’t a place to get quesadillas. I did and it was horrid. Not their specialty. I don’t blame this place, you know how it is, you pick and choose which place where you get what. Like, I used to get only fish tacos at Taco Mesa now I don’t go there because it isn’t as good. Anyway, I also got the hibiscas drink, maybe I’m just a gringo but it tasted like watered down kool aid. Sorry to my Latin friends. The best item I’ve had is the torta. Maybe I’ll go back and hang with the guys and watch soccer and listen to tejano music. I looks like an after work gathering place for hard working men. The waitresses wear low cut blouses and short skirts. Not offending. My opinion, just right for men that have worked a long hard day in the sun.

I believe that Fate had brought me to eat here the other day. Who in their right mind drives past a garbage dump with the stench of foul air everywhere and then decides — tortas, mmm, let’s give it a try? Only crazy people like me who also happen to like durian. Fortunately, the doors to the restaurant are sealed pretty well, so the garbage stench does not come into the restaurant. I decided to get a couple of tortas, the carnitas, and ahogada, since it is their self-proclaimed specialty. It is your typical hole-in-the wall torta place, with the jukebox that blares Tejano /Ranchero music, walls lined with Corona flag banners, and life size futbol star cut-outs from beer ads. My expectations were pretty nil at this point. Then when the tortas came out, I was totally surprised. It was like seeing the nerdy girl in class always wearing the ski jacket, taking it off, revealing huge bazooms. Absolutely shocking. I think my eyes popped out of my head like Chadams in his photos. I looked back at the girl who brought the food and told her that they were huge. She kinda crossed her arms and looked embarrassed. I meant the tortas. Oh.yes, she replied. So I decided to get busy and put my mouth on the carnitas torta. The bread was wonderful — it was toasted bet yet felt so soft and supple in my hands. The carnitas were beyond excellent. Tender and smoky, it produced a great flavor and has some chewiness, eschewing the flavorless masses that some other places may offer. Adding a little bit of their salsa roja adds to the experience. The ahogada is just like it translates — it is drowned in sauce. It is chile sauce that has piquancy which will leave your mouth warm. The bread from the torta soaks it up and you get a mouthload of flavor in every bite. A bit on the salty side, it does well to complement the chunks of asada in the torta. I’m gonna put the pictures I took of the tortas and put them in my food porn collection. On Thurs, Fri, and Sat, they have handmade tortillas, so you know that I will definitely be here. Best Thing — carnitas torta
