The Art of Frankenweenie Exhibition

Pretty awesome to see a behind the scene look of Frankenweenie. AWESOME!

I’m gonna keep this one small… just like the exhibit.
If you love Tim Burton movies and you want to see Frankenweenie, this exhibit is pretty darn cool. They have a couple of scenes that they use in the movie on display as well as other «props» from the movie. They’ve taken over all the screens overhead in the animation academy to have art from the movie and overall, it’s very cool!
We walked in and didn’t know it was there. We were pleasantly surprised. If you’re in the hood, i’d suggest checking it out for a few minutes. It’s pretty neat.

Quick review time!
The Art of Frankenweenie Exhibition is very interesting even if you don’t have any interest in seeing the movie. The classroom set was my favorite part as the school kids really stole the show in the movie.

Taking up some real estate in the Animation Academy is, what you can best describe as advertisement tie-in’s for the recently released movie, is the art of Frankenweenie exhibit.
This in itself is a great little walk through the mind of Tim Burton. It has been going around and was at Comic con earlier this Summer. But it’s seriously one great behind the scenes look at what it took to make Frenkenweenie.
There’s really only four displays. Three of which are scenes from the film. The other is models of a dozen or so characters. One of the displays, the one depicting the attic/​lightning scene has switches so you can turn on and off lights in the display.
The display case with various character models was probably my favorite of the four. It gave you the up close and personal look at how they messed with the stop motion models. Let alone showing you what the actors to this film were like.
Character sketches and other rough outlines line most of the displays as well as tiny little replicas of what is shown in the scene. Small lamps and what not. They’re cute… and tiny.
While not at the exhibit, across the way they took over the Muppet 3D experience and put in a 10 minute preview for Frankenweenie 4D. This is well worth checking out as you are surprised by water coming down on you when there’s a raining scene. lights flashing when lightning flashes. in short, it’s really amazing and well worth checking out.
The local hot dog stand also has a Frankenweenie themed hot dog. It’s a rough sale at about $ 8. But hey, if you’re in the groove of enjoying everything Frankenweenie, this is for you.
Also highly recommended for any Tim Burton fan. You’ll be in stop motion heaven.

I was ecstatic that I got to see this exhibition as part of the sneak peek for Annual Passholders the night before it opened to public.
My first AP event and it did not disappoint!
This exhibit is located in the Animation building in Hollywoodland at DCA and we were allotted 20 minutes to view and take our pictures. Because it was a small group, it was plenty of time for us to mill around and take photos from every single angle of the mini-​sets.
I really enjoyed that they had windows all around since it made for some interesting photos!
Everything was really detailed and it was an absolute pleasure to be able to see the sets closeup.
There are 3 sets:
–Kitchen with the men of the family at the kitchen table, while the mom cooks
–Attic where the boy had just resurrected Sparkie
–Classroom where the students are looking at the evil looking teacher
My favorite would have to be the kitchen scene just because they had an additional ledge of set props that included the FOOD details ;)

The 4D extended preview was also fun, since there are some unexpected moments of water. I was alarmed and scrambled to cover my leather purse xD
If you saw the Frankenweenie set up at San Diego Comic-​Con, then this is the same :)

I was so impressed by this little exhibit, located inside the animation building at California Adventure. Here for probably a limited time.
The exhibit had a few models of the room designs set up with the characters inside. Some hands on stuff like turning lights on and off in the rooms. Really cute, I could tell everyone visiting was in awe.
Across the street is a 3D preview of frankenweenie with a few «special effects» to go along with it.

A semi-​small but really good little exhibit for an upcoming Tim Burton film.
Located in California Adventure, in the Animation Academy, where there is blessed air conditioning for horribly hot days. There are 4 separate staging areas to view set diagrams, a sort of mock-​up for the upcoming film Frankenweenie.
You should make sure after that you go check out the 5 – 8 minute short film preview, located at Muppet Vision. It is in 4-​D, with some water squirts and wind and lightening/​thunder sound effects. Very enjoyable preview, and really gets you in the mood to go see this film. It looked fun, cute and heartwarming.

If you’re a fan of stop-​motion animation or Tim Burton, you should check out the Frankenweenie: The Art of Exhibition at Animation Academy in California Adventure. It’s a really cool exhibit that I was able to preview last night at the park. It will be on exhibit until November 5, 2012.
The exhibition features:
Tim Burton’s Desk — with 6 motion slides screens that showcase behind-​the-​scene images; sculpting tools; used brushes; paints; notepads; an open script; original sketches; costumes; props; fabric swatches and more
Victor’s Attic Roof — with posed puppets of Victor and Sparky
Classroom — with posed puppets of Victor’s teacher and classmates, school counselor, school set and an interactive camera
Victor’s Bedroom — with posed puppets and props of Victor’s Mom and Dad
It was really cool to check out and once this exhibition completes, it will have visited 7 countries.
