Cabela’s

This was my first time visiting the Anchorage location and I can say just like everyone else here that it was a very cool experience. I got some great deals on cold weather socks and fleece blankets from the after Christmas sale. Just in time for the harsh January and February weather to come. Their gun selection is impressive as is their Costco-​sized selection of ammo. We visited the café at the end of the store past the cash registers. I think this is the first time I have ever ordered a deli sandwich that had wild boar (yes, wild boar) with lettuce, mayonnaise, tomatoes, and onions with a side of potato salad. It looked like sliced ham but had the taste of a pork roast which made this a unique, delicious experience. They also had other wild game offerings like elk and bear which made me want to go back for another visit. The atmosphere of the café was inviting and well-​lit and popular with kids as well. They had a shelf full of hard-​to-​find brand products for cooking like pancake mix, apple butter, jams, BBQ sauce, soup mixes, and chocolates. I will definitely come back to purchase fishing gear come spring time.

Cabela’s store is located in a much better area compare to Bass pro in Mountain view. They pretty much have similar stuff but prices at Bass pro is a little bit better. However, Cabela’s does have a wider selection of guns (they have a gun library that should say a lot) and I really like Cabela’s selection of gun safes.
Overall, if you’re looking for fishing stuff go with Bass Pro and for hunting I would check out Cabelas but compare prices. Oh yeah, Bass Pro offer 10% military discount and Cabelas is only 5%.
Cabelas and Bass Pro have both state and federal bird stamps — I got my hunting license and bird stamps ready for opening day.

Super professional and knowledgeable. Love the fact that they’re not impatient answering a bunch of «new to Alaska» fishing questions. Talked to the manager unknowingly for about 20 minutes and never knew it. Great dude his name is Kevin. Spent 40 minutes talking to another employee (Sarah) who was also extremely helpful. Just be careful going in without a budget you’ll want everything!

Purchased a Gortex Safari hat among other things. When I got to the door I realized the Safari hat was at regular price & not the sale price. Went to customer service counter & they refunded me the difference without even checking the shelf tag. Excellent customer service.

Helpful staff. Great selection. Gun dept. one of the cheapest in town for quality goods.

I went to a Cabelas for the second time and I did not have the greatest experience at the Anchorage location. Cabelas is offering a promotional coupon that expires on September 14, which I lost, but was told by a cashier that worked there to go to customer service and they would give me another coupon. The coupon was $ 25 off your purchase of $ 100 or more. An older gentleman in customer service told me that the coupon expired, but it had not. Then proceeded to tell me that they would not replace the coupon even though a Cabelas cashier told me they would. He asked if i wanted to purchased my things and I told him no and put everything back that I was going to purchase.
One, dont lie to customers about coupons expiring when they clearly have not. Two, if you work in customer service, you should at least pretend that you care about your customers while you are clocked in even if you truly dont. Its your job to provide a good experience for your customers.
I dont see myself doing any more business at this location.

Do you need any sort of outdoor gear? Well, there’s a really good chance they have it here. From jackets to boots to fishing and everything else, this is a large store packed with all kinds of outdoorsy-​ness. I got all the items I was looking for without too much of a hunt. And they have a wide selection of everything with prices to fit most every budget. And it’s all clean and nice and well kept. You can even get your fishing license here. But you gotta check your firearms upon entering.

Absolutely amazing store. They have lots and lots of outdoor gear for every type of outdoorsman. Their gun and scope selection is especially impressive. It’s got to be the biggest in Alaska. They even had ammo, which is impossible to find these days. Unfortunately they don’t have any 44 magnum ammo which was a huge disappointment for me. What I was impressed with was their selection of outdoorsy food/​culinary related items.
The Smoking, canning, butchering, grilling, preserving and cooking selection are what sets this store apart from other similar stores. I still think that no– frills BJS is probably the best place in town for camping, hiking and survival gear. But hunters and cooks will love Cabelas and the kids will too.
The layout of the store is very logical. Thank goodness for that, since the store is positively massive. They were smart to have a café, since after hours of browsing, shoppers will be hungry.

This store is incredible! We went to the opening today and of course it was insanely busy but we expected that. They were so organized with the massive line to check out that it actually moved pretty quick! We are excited to go back when the crowds aren’t so bad and look around a little more.

This store is absolutely amazing!!! Everything imaginable for the outdoorsy woman (and men) is here, all in one spot. Opening day parking was horrible. I got lucky and parked right out front! Every time I come in here I find more and more gadgets the more cool a stuff and the most important reliable and knowledgeable customer representatives all over the floor.
This is one of my two favorite stores in town!
