I’ve been here maybe a dozen times. I usually get the Reuben because it is the best I’ve had anywhere. I did try a burger and it was really tasty, but slightly on the rare side for me. The place is always clean and the wait staff are polite and friendly. As mentioned in another review the dress code seems quite casual with jeans and t-shirts the norm. Every time I’ve been there the food is hot and fresh. The bread used is always fresh, soft, and flavorful(I don’t think they make their own, but it’s delivered fresh daily). The have a house blueberry vinegarette dressing that I know they make in house(I asked) that is absolutely wonderful. Prices are a little on the high side($ 12-$ 15 for sandwich and salad), but not bad for an occasional lunch. If you go here you have to get the Reuben, it’s definitely the best in town!

I was getting a bike repair so thought why not get some beers in me. I believe this is the only establishment that serves in the Metro mall area. The women who was the bartender was really nice and intelligent about the beers being offered. I ordered a half beer half mead drink and though it was amazing. The food looks good, maybe a little high in price, but it sounded authentic. I will for sure return and order some food. I believe they are known for their benedicts and reuben’s. The ambiance in the bar was cool. Very European-y.

Had a very relaxing Sunday brunch here. If you are looking to explore some interesting beers, check out their menu online and you can get a heads up on what they are serving. I tried three excellent saisons that I haven’t seen in Anchorage. The food is a little on the spendy side, but it was filling and tasty. Would definitely come back again.

Not sure why this cute little café doesn’t get better reviews, our food came fast, was hot and fresh and an overall good breakfast, service was great, very friendly and attentive staff… Had a better experience here than at the famed snow city where we waited 2 hours for breakfast! I’d definitely go back to café Amsterdam next time we’re in anchorage!

I haven’t been here in years and when my son suggested it for lunch I remembered why. Probably the slowest service on the planet. Not one of the servers had any pep to their step and not an ounce of hustle. Food was just okay, not terrible but certainly not worth the high prices. Their beer selection must be their saving grace, because the food and service are certainly lacking.

Some of the best eggs Benedict and best selection of European beer in town. Love the Benedict with salmon lox.

Zero is more like it… The OWNER actually bitched out my wife and her friend if front of other customers! No matter the reason, justified or not, NO business owner should act in the unprofessional manner she did.

OK — so I’m upgrading this joint one star. Not because of the food, but because this time around for a lunch pow-wow I heard zero screaming from the owner’s wife. And I believe that that deserves another star by itself(I know, kinda sad for the reasoning but I’m sure they’ll take it coming from this LA Times food critic). I ordered the eggs florentine for lunch. They were fine… wasn’t overly impressed but wasn’t disappointed either. Here’s where my love for numbers comes into play though. The plate itself was $ 15. $ 15 for 2 eggs on an untoasted muffin with straight-from-the-bag-cold spinach & huge chunks of unripe tomatoes slathered with some hollandaise sauce & a baby’s handful of cottage potatoes(I had to google cottage potatoes — I’m pretty sure they need to as well), left me questioning where the rest of my money was going. Pretty sure the cooks are receiving nothing more than minimum wage, the décor is outdated — plastic chairs and tables, servers get min wage too & I’m almost positive most of those ingredients came straight from Costco. Has our economy tanked so much that a local restaurant must sink so low as to robbing the consumer? Perhaps… Glad I only went in for lunch, I’d be scared to look at their beer prices. For that kind of money, this New York Times food critic expects the eggs to be gathered from the chickens outside(preferably hormone free & free range), the spinach to have a little legal happy stuff in it, the lemon juice in the sauce to be squeezed from the freshly plucked lemon tree growing on Benson and the tomatoes, well, if they could just be ripe… that would be great.

The Reuben is the reason why I come here. It’s the perfect meld of flavours with the right amount of kraut. The beer selection is not bad either. Everything else I feel is meh.

I have given this place so many chances– mainly because it’s been here so long. Their service is good for the amount of people that come through, but it’s not professional. The hosts, servers, and chefs are all wearing jeans and t-shirts. I’ve had nearly everything on the food menu and none of it is inspiring anymore. Every once in a while they will have an interesting special, but the prices for the meals don’t match up with the taste. Everything has a very distinctive diner-taste to their dishes. Maybe I just don’t like Belgian food? I appreciate that they have a wide menu for beer and wine with tasting notes, but that’s it.

I have only been for the breakfast. The Croissant Beatrix: Two poached eggs on split warmed croissant with avocado, tomato, topped with hollandaise sauce and sour cream. Served with cottage potatoes ISTHEBESTTHINGYOUWILLEAT! I love that think I have been over 10 times and think I have only ever had one other item. It was a drunken mistake ordering something else. The staff is friendly and they are busy most of the time. Parking is good a large lot. There is also a local bread place near by that’s worth stopping into!

Food was mediocre the staff was not pleasant. The waitstaff was being bossed around by a head waitress/manager who verbally abused her staff. They had several empty dirty tables sitting in the restaurant the entire time we were there. The head waitress would get extremely loud while complaining about staff in the open restaurant area. I will not come back.

I came in once a couple of years ago and was shocked to have exactly the same experience today as two years ago where at least 10 tables were not being cleaned or bussed and the manager was yelling at staff to the point of using profanity in front of customers. I can say that I will not be going to Café Amsterdam again. Food over priced when you’re paying $ 15 for a sandwich and all that negativity.

While my husband ran the Mayors marathon, I took myself out to breakfast! I have always seen this place, but have never been able to make it for breakfast When you first walk in there is a long bar with many beers on tap to choose from! To the left is the dining area! Since it was just me I set at the bar overlooking the kitchen! I ordered the eggs Benedict with cottage potatoes. The wait time for my food was very short and the eggs were amazing! The only reason why I didn’t give this resultant 5 starts is because I felt like the food is a little overpriced. I will be back, but not as often as I would like because of the price

Food was ok, but had to stop coming in because of staff/management problems resulting in very poor service. Who wants to hear a server being yelled(yes, yelled) at by manager for no good reason?

Crappy, cluttered décor that makes it feel like you’re dining in a flea market. Food was meh and WAY overpriced. if food was fabulous, the prices would be fine, or if it was 1⁄3 the price it would be acceptable under the banner of «ya get what you pay for.» We had waffles and eggs benedict and finished neither. We DEFINITELY did not get what we paid for and will not be back.

Avocado melt– hubby said it was«okay– he liked the sauce». I thought it was bland and boring Reuben– YUMYUMYUM– The bread was dark and yummy– good Reuben– may be the best I have had in Anchorage thus far. Lightly toasted so no issues cutting the roof of your mouth… props for that! Amazing and vast beer selection but we didn’t partake in beer this trip.

Wow. I only wanted egg, bacon, and potatoes. The bacon wasn’t done enough for my taste, so I sent it back. They microwaved it. WHAT!!! That’s a crime! When the bill came, there was $ 1 more than expected. Asked what that was, the server said it was the English muffin. I mentioned that she didn’t tell us it was going to cost more, so I said removing it would be the right thing. She argued with me! Do the right thing, and don’t argue! Ugh!!! She went to the manager, who didn’t even come over to apologize. The busser/actual server was AWESOME. He should work for a place that cares to do the right thing. Needless to say my sister(a local prominent realtor) and I will not be returning.

Had an hour for lunch, was in the area on business and thought we’d check it out… 45 minutes after being seated we finally got our food. I had the Reuben. It was described to have some form of special kraut… it was no different then any kraut you’d find. Most notably there was very little kraut on the sandwich :-(there was however an enormous amount of cheese… too much cheese. I chose the oriental slaw for my side… another bad choice, nothing but shredded slaw veggies with vinegar… Very very spendy I probably should have chosen one of their breakfasts… The only positive net was the coffee was great and the rye the Reuben was made with was delicious. On a positive note.
