Writing the FIRST review for Evolve yoga tells me why this is still a secret gem of a yoga studio. Maybe my fellow practitioners will be upset with me for popping Evolve’s review cherry on Unilocal but, seriously, you NEED to know about this place.
Disclaimer: I moved to Anchorage 6 months ago and, while I have visited several studios in other areas of the country, I have only attended yoga classes at one other Anchorage studio.
This is the first studio where I feel at home. It’s not a place to just look cute doing yoga or pat yourself on the back because you didn’t pass out at your first hot yoga class. It is also NOT a place to feel intimidated, judged, or… wonder whether your instructor actually completed their yoga teacher training.
The atmosphere is beautiful, quiet, and serene. The staff and instructors are friendly and genuinely knowledgable and caring about their practice and their students. They make an effort to know your name and will probably know it within just a few visits.
The instruction is done in a true teaching style, rather than a bootcamp «better keep up» kind of style but that doesn’t mean they are lacking. I am on the novice side of my yoga practice still and I feel well-​tended to during each session even while the instructors are also showing more advanced (and sometimes WAY more advanced) moves to other students. Lastly, the instructors tend to be professional while also having a sense of humor. There have been few classes where I wasn’t both challenged to my limit and laughing in the same hour. I love this place!
