EASILY the best food I’ve had in Alaska. Nate and Josh are brilliant and creative, and they do everything right! The presentation, the service, the food itself, and the easy way they draw you in to share in their passion. I first came across Harvest for my birthday dinner this year. It was such a treat I was nearly in tears. I photographed every course, and if the couple beside me hadn’t asked for my photos afterward, I might have thought I was a bit overenthusiastic. Everything about the experience was artful, from the sockeye ceviche served in a stemless wine glass to the chokecherry ice cream made in front of us, and I fell in love. After seeing on Facebook that they also cater small parties in-home(6 – 12 guests), I asked them to cook for two different dinners at my house. Both were extraordinary. Not only was the food everything I expected and more, but they brought their own cookware and even wiped down the front of the fridge when they left! Harvest is exactly what the Anchorage food scene has needed. Whether you experience their food in your home or in their space, you won’t be disappointed.

In less than a year, I have had the pleasure of eating the two best meals of my life, both here in Anchorage. Last night, thanks to Nathan and Josh, the chefs at the Harvest Pop-up Restaurant, was amazing meal number two. AMAZING! If you’re not familiar with pop-ups, it’s a temporary restaurant that uses unexpected spaces or other restaurant spaces when they are closed. In 2014, Harvest was located at the old tapas restaurant on W 6th. This year, they are at Crush wine bar on Sunday nights. Reservations are available only during the summer; they open early and generally fill for the whole season. This year, they are serving a different eight-course meal, with three wine pairings(contributed by Crush), each week for $ 110 total. Josh and Nathan spend the week planning the menu in order to create what I can only describe as a delectable food frenzy, mixing unexpected flavors and textures into unique dishes. My dinner experience was a bit different because we ended up having our meal catered by Harvest at a friend’s house because our reservations for the previous Sunday pop-up night got messed up, but they said they were serving the same meal to us as they would for this week’s pop-up, so we didn’t get anything extra special or different than the regular guests. Also, Josh and Nathan will cater and do a similar 8-course dinner at a host house where there’s a kitchen for the same cost as the pop-up. This is an unbelievable deal. I must let the pictures speak for themselves because I don’t have the descriptive chops to capture all of the complicated, brilliant nuances behind the food. There was not a single thing on the menu I wasn’t thrilled with. Suffice it to say that they can turn a basic concept into exquisite mouth art. Like the gin and tonic course – it was a small gelatin cube that combined the flavors of a gin and tonic, including juniper, into a sweet dessert bite. So excellent! I don’t know if they have plans to return next year, but it they do, I will be the first to set up a reservation(I almost didn’t leave a review because I want to be able to get a space if they return, but their work is so incredible, it needs to be publicized). You can like them on Facebook to stay up-to-date. Thanks again to Harvest for a memorable night.
