A group of us went here for a Bachelorette party, I have been here many times and always had fun EXCEPT for this time! We walked up to the bar and a older male bartender asked us what we wanted. We told him, got our drinks and then he asked who was going to pick up the tab– we said separately. He looked at us and said ‘Seriously? How a I meant to know who had what??’ (I have bartended before and know its annoying trying t figure out stuff, but he should have asked our payment plan before or something!) we said we would tell him and he threw his eyes up to heaven and huffed and puffed, We felt so awkward and unwanted that we all just put our money together and gave it to him. One of girls had a card and he said ‘So we’re starting a tab?’ she said no, and he stopped and looked at her and said ‘are you serious?‘ I did have countless fun nights there but we are definitely put off with how we were treated and will not be going back!

The drinks are super strong. The bartenders are not very friendly. The place is really outdated. The dance space is small and awkward. Anchorage needs a new gay bar.

I came here for the drag show last year and it was actually ASL night which was pretty awesome since I’m hard of hearing and sign language is my first language. I got pulled up on stage and I had more fun that night than I had in a long time. The staff is super friendly and extremely personable. I’m not a regular here but I will come back again!

Mad Myrna’s– the gayest gay bar in Anchorage! I’m kidding– I’m kidding. For a place that boasts its homosexual pride, this bar is actually filled with all kinds of people. Straight couples, straight single guys, straight single girls, lesbians, gays, cross-dressers, and transgenders. Everyone goes here– and there’s a good reason why. This place is just a genuinely fun place to be. The bouncers can be a bit crabby(but can’t they at all bars?), but the rest of the staff are really nice. They have, by far, the most attractive male bartenders in all of Anchorage. And, of course, they’re gay(figures). They have a decent drink selection although it’s nothing fancy. A few beers, wines, mixed drinks, and they do carry Mike’s Hard Lemonade(which I love– because not many bars in Anchorage do). But I don’t come here for the drinks, and I’m not sure many other people do either. This place has everything. They have entertainment almost every night of the week. Everything from burlesque shows, to stand-up, to karaōke, to poetry readings(on Wednesdays– and they have some very talented writers– go watch!). They also have a pool table that rarely ever gets crowded. They have nice seating that’s spaced out really well, so you’re never too crowded trying to sit down and talk to someone. Their bathrooms are clean and well-maintained, although the stalls are weirdly low– and if you’re tall enough you may get an unwanted glance at the person next to you while you’re standing up. My favorite part of this bar, though? The dance floor. When you walk in, you arrive in the main bar area. To the right back corner is the dance floor. The most fun dance floor in Anchorage. You don’t have to be a good dancer to dance here. You don’t even need a partner. Everyone dances here. You have great dancers, goofy dancers, single dancers, dancing groups, and couples making out in the corner. The music is always fantastic. Everything from Miley Cyrus to Kesha. If you want to get your dance on in a really fun, lively, upbeat way– Mad Myrna’s is hands down one of the best places to go. You’ll never be judged on your dancing skills, and chances are– if you’re daring enough to hit the dance floor, you’re going to find a partner, because everyone here is pretty friendly and open to dancing with everyone else. I love this place. I always feel really happy here. I have a genuinely good time every time I go here– on any day of the week. It’s awesome on the weekends and one of my favorite places just to go and dance at. But on the weekdays they have some great activities as well. Just overall a quality place to get some fun, upbeat entertainment in Anchorage. Tip: This bar has a ‘secret entrance’. You’re going to the back of an old grungy– looking building and the door is kind of hidden. They don’t have a clear ‘entry’, so if it’s your first time going here– you’ll probably need to search around for a way in. Don’t be afraid to open the door that looks like an emergency exit sitting tucked away in the back of the building. It’s the entrance.

The only bar in Anchorage that will get my money! The people are great. The bartenders are great. The shows are great. I hate they charge a cover fee but I will gladly pay it for the environment.

We arrived in Anchorage after a cruise from Vancouver in July and quickly discovered Mad Myrna’s was walking distance from our post cruise hotel. What a great place ! We felt so welcomed by the bartender Mimi and the rest of the locals. Coming from Palm Springs, we are used to tourists but here in Anchorage, everyone we met made us feel like family. Great drinks, warm people and a feeling like we were in an old familiar place ! Can’t wait to stop by again sometime and say hi to these friendly folks ! Rock on Mad Myrna’s !

I’m a flight attendant. Coworkers and I were super excited to go out, the bartender here was an asshole. Complete prick, ruined our night, thanks a lot. Hope he is disciplined and learns the basics of customer service. Wouldn’t recommend this place.

I’ve been a couple of times and found the bar adequate, though this last time made me a bit unhappy. I came in with a couple who had reserved tickets through the doorman to attend a sold out show on it’s last night. I paid for a ticket and we got a pitcher to share and found a section of a table area to watch. The show began and I poured the beers as some chick started to swing in a hoop connected to the ceiling. At this point I thought, this is where the beginning of a decent show is about to unfold. False. A man approached my table and said I had to leave and was disrupting the show. I was like how? And he said again that I had to leave. I asked can I get my ticket money back as I hadn’t been there 15 minutes? No. I look at my friends and leave. Come to find out a lot of people were asked to leave. I believe they are broke and oversold the show to cover costs, but due to fire hazards have to make people leave. Us single people are first!

I have been a loyal customer for more than 7 years, attending drag show events, the Rocky Horror Picture Show, and dancing on the dance floor. Per usual, I purchased my Rocky Horror ticket this year and went to the show with the same excitement last night, as with every year. The show was admittedly different, but I was up for the change. Well, the show was disgustingly different, and not enjoyable. I sat through it though, then suddenly security is rudely asking me to leave. I was not intoxicated, and the claims were that I was«harassing» the cast members, which was also untrue. I felt violated and mistreated and feel that the staff of Mad Myrna’s should answer to this, instead of blindly letting security treat me that way. I don’t make decisions for you, reading this, but I highly suggest spending your money elsewhere. I will NEVER return to this bar.

Love the fruity drinks! The cover charge sucks but it’s worth it to see the shows and be in a fun atmosphere

Wow! What a big ol’ bar. It was my first time in the gay scene in Anchorage and wow, it’s kinda of a crazy party here. ;-) I like that everyone(boys, girls, gay, straight, drag queens, t* folk, etc.) all come to one place. I also couldn’t believe the HUGE crowd for the raucous drag show/birthday celebration, and the cool patio area and the flagstone wall in the main room… I loved it all. Really fun and just a big giant party. The only(small) snag to our visit was the attitude from a female bartender working the main bar on Friday night. The bar had a sign offering a deal on a specific brand of tequila that my friend liked, so he was excited and ordered a margarita made with that brand. She didn’t know it and kept saying they didn’t have it, and my friend was like«well, it’s on the sign over there, and I ordered it earlier from the other bar with no problems,» so then she kind of waved us off and kept going and dealing with other customers waiting at the bar. Finally, because my friend wouldn’t let it go ;-) she asked another of the bartenders about this brand of tequila and he immediately grabbed the bottle from behind the bar and handed it to her, so she brought it over and said«oh, I guess we do have» and made my friend’s margarita. No apology. Listen, the bar was slammed and I get that she wanted to deal with customers who had easy orders so she could keep things moving, but that’s totally no excuse to be rude to my friend and blow him off… ESPECIALLY when it turned out to really be her fault that she didn’t know what was stocked at her own bar. I think she probably was a little stressed from dealing with a lot of customers all at once, but that’s no reason to give us attitude. Anyhow. I highly recommend visiting this place. Just don’t let your drink orders get too fancy. ;-)

Mad Myrna’s is a fantastic place. The staff is wonderful and friendly and will absolutely help to make sure that you have a good time. Their karaōke selection is absolutely massive, and the KJs liven it up even when it’s slow.

Predominately a gay bar, this place is fun for all persuasions. Do NOT try to get in the front door where the plain white sign is located. Those in the know, know to go around back, weave your way in between the shipping containers, and enter via a small door in the back. A $ 5 cover charge gets you in. The main bar area is full of people just having fun. The lady bartender is amazing to watch in action. Multi-tasking at its finest, and easy on the eyes for an older fella like me. A drag queen show is presented in an adjoining room, while another room has a dance floor that was never vacant. Karaōke begins after the drag show, and it’s good for lots of laughs. For a night of fun, Myrna’s really rocks!

Went on a Friday night. Had to pay to get in. Dance floor is too small. Place needs a remolding. The bartender sucked! Worst service I got. Came with a few friends, there are 3 bartender and all of them ignored us about 90% of the time. And one of them was a girl, she made my drink and it disgusting!!! Overall not the best gay bar to go to!

This bar is honestly one of the best bars in Anchorage. This is my go to place whenever I want to relax and just have a good time with friends and meet new people. It is unfortunately one of two gay bars in Anchorage. I do not like the fact that they charge a cover charge however it’s a small one at that. the only other gay bar in town is called the Raven and it’s pretty much a dive bar. This bar could use an update however the surroundings an atmospheric give it its character. There are three bartenders in particular that are amazing bartenders and awesome people to have conversations with I will let you find out which ones they are!

Not a crazy gay bar full of fabulousity, but a kinda quite spot with a good juke box & fun for out of towners to people watch. But this was a Wed so I can’t speak for the weekends. We ordered The $ 4 ‘label special’ which lets the bartender make you a big drink of whatever he feels like. That’s fun. There was some mild cruising going on, but we are a hetero couple and it was nothing that made us uncomfortable(I have a keen eye). The neon signs in the window of this, unassuming to say the least, building — will make you think it’s closed. Its not. There is a sign to ‘enter in the rear’(pun intended I’m sure). I don’t have much to compare this to, but I have a feeling this is the entire gay scene in Anch. Better than the touristy bars closer downtown.
