Purchased a groupon to try this place & now I know why they offered discounts from groupon! Arrived & the staff asked where we wanted to be seated, we just wanted a window if possible. The dinning room was empty but no window tables were available therefor we moved to the bar. Sitting next to this lady, I hear. OH! Looked over & she had some creature moving on her oysters, living in Alaska 47+ years I have never seen that. The manager went over & told her that it says on the menu that you may encounter this! I have never seen that on a menu. only eating raw or under cooked meat! The manger told this Customer that the oysters were picked out of the ocean that morning & flown to Anchorage, I have to call BS on that just because this is not your upscale restaurant to have that type of service! Jess the waitress was nice but a little flustered & not so knowable on the menu, telling me all the veggies were from AK which I find hard to believe the 1st week of June. Topping off the night a couple arrived & asked to have the shade closed on a gorgeous night & we felt like we were in a bat cave. If you use a groupon they add 20% to your bill automatically.

Weird. That’s the one word I’d use to describe this place. The hotel is pretty downscale, the food is kinda upscale. Lots of clashing going on here. It’s an odd vibe, hard to articulate, you’d have to experience it for yourself. I went and was treated nice, most of the bar seemed to be regulars. Some even lived in the hotel? All the food was pretty spendy, so I went with a burger. It was good, not great. Good selection of taps.

The Meze platter appetizer was huge and tasty. Many different flavors from garlic to curry pickled cauliflower. Pita bread was warm and fresh. My 3 year old had the Mac and cheese and added the scallops to it for an additional $ 6. I thought that was pricey for only 3 tiny scallops. The Mac and cheese was probably the only disappointing dish. It was bland. I had the seafood special of the night which was fresh halibut cheeks with veggies. I was impressed with it. Good wine and beer list too.

I came here with a Groupon to check out the restaurant. I had gone here many years ago for drinks and snacks at the bar, but it has been so long, I didn’t remember much. My husband and I went a little after six and while the bar area was pretty full, the dining room was near empty, so we sat there instead. We were promptly seated and watered.(Next time I’ll probably want to sit further away from the kitchen door to avoid the traffic and chatting of staff.) I think our waiter was new because he seemed pretty nervous but his service was great. He got our order down without having to write it out and everything was correct. He was just attentive enough without being overbearing. We had the macaroni and cheese appetizer, which was a little small but really tasty. The cheese was a little soupy so it would have been better if it were served with a spoon to dish out your portion. Beer was a little pricey at 6 $ and I think it was a 12-ounce glass, not a pint. I got the grilled romaine and the meze platter(that night’s special), the latter which was particularly delicious and generous(leftovers for lunch as I type this up). The romaine was also great and I like the carrot vinaigrette. Husband got the meatloaf and while the potatoes weren’t hot(maybe they hung out while meatloaf was being finished), he enjoyed his meal, which also came with tempura onion strips and sautéed asparagus and root veggies. For an app, two drinks, a salad with an app, and an entrée, it came to $ 59(or less with the groupon!) which I think is pretty reasonable for the quality of food and the service as well as the overall ambiance. I can see myself walking here in the summer to enjoy a drink or to have a nice meal with a friend visiting from out of town. Although fair warning for any vegetarians — options are limited and they do have one vegetarian entrée(ravioli with tomato crema) as well as some salads and one menu appetizer that can accommodate your diet.

First of all, let me just tell you, the service was wonderful both in the restaurant and lounge! My fiancé and I had a wonderful romantic dining experience in the restaurant being served by Bud(even though the restaurant was very busy Bud never made us feel rushed… actually made us feel like we were his only customer). Our booth was in the corner of the restaurant and very romantic! We thought the menu had a great selection of entrees. Although we did not order an appetizer, they all seemed to be very creative, and looked tasty as they were delivered to other tables. I ordered a chicken entrée and my fiancé ordered a steak and both came out just perfectly cooked… to our exact order. A month later we wanted to check out the PubHouse lounge and decided to visit and see what the wine and beer selection looked like(very nice variety of cocktails, wine and beer to choose from). We were warmly welcomed and greeted by Darrel, the bartender. We could see right away that no-one seemed like a stranger in the Pub House, felt very comfortable and at ease. The ambiance was great; it was very quaint! The Pub House would be great for friends to meet or for a romantic date. Very friendly environment with diverse music too. I’ve been to many establishments like this, so I can confidently say, this is a solid 5-star experience! Great music with selected evenings of live artists, customers(who we met) with great personalities, terrific ambiance, and superb service(thank you Bud and Darrel!). You can’t go wrong here… It is definitely worth you checking out.

Try this place for the first time for dinner, and wasn’t really impressed with anything but would not have mentioned it, until I got the check and saw the 20% mandatory tip! Not the food, nor the service were nearly that good. I might have given it another chance otherwise

The wings are amazing! Great flavor and some heat to them. One of the best bourbon selections in town as well. Keep it up!

Fantastic dinner at the Pubhouse tonight, our first visit. We opened with the habernero wings appetizer, which were very meaty and had a decent kick. They paired well with my pint of IPA(Crescent Lake, I think?). My wife had the pork chop which was served on a bed of roasted vegetables. It looked really good and she liked it quite a lot. I had the IT burger, which was an excellent two patty burger saved with some really, really good hot fries. Service was excellent too! The Pubhouse is an excellent place to go for a special occasion.

Valentine dinner for 2 −2÷13÷16 The service is great, the environment is perfect, but the food was not so good! Valentine’s Day Special –3 corse meal: $ 65.00 per person. I also included the wine paring to my dish only(Chef’s choice) for an extra $ 29.00 1. Starter dish: I ordered the salad greens and they were great! My husband ordered the beet dish which basically looked and tasted like a thick purée of baby food. The dish was bland, overly thick, and barley consumable. 2. Main dish: We both ordered the prawns carbonara. It seemed like a wonderful dish until it arrives! We had a pile of thin noodles with two gigantic full bodied prawns laying around the edges with a raw egg yolk in the center of it all. Ok fine, we tried it with not such a good taste. The raw egg and piles of seafood shells were not so attractive. When we were presented with plate as I described, they did not give us a side plate for all of this prawn shells and wasted top part of the body that we had to tear apart with our hands. 3. Desert: My husband ordered the death by chocolate, and I ordered the key lime pie . My husbands cake was dry and crumbly, not a bit moist. My key lime pie was horrible! It didn’t even taste like any lime pie I have ever eaten! Sadly, my wine pairing was a sparkling wine that all seemed to taste the same. We did tell our waiter our feelings, and assured him that in no way did we hold him at fault. We tipped him for his wonderful services as we should have . At this point we learned not to seek out any new restaurants again! We walk with a pretty healthy bill, and a lesson to be learned. We will not eat there ever again. It’s sad, because I expected so much more than what we got . 4 stars for the staff service and 0 – 1 star for the chef!

Had dinner last night. The four of us all got something different and everyone was extremely pleased with our meals. The chef even stopped at the table to describe the chowder ingredients before we ordered. It can be a bit loud but not unbearable.

The food was terrible and they put rotten cucumber in my drink. I will definitely never be back there again.

Ok in general my main concern is high prices and a focus on hipster oak over service. Waited twenty minutes after ordering desert. No drink refill, no check, no tiramisu. After telling them to cancel and asking for the bill, they brought the tiramisu– apparently made from scratch? If you like high prices, attempt at pretentious décor over function, and wretched service the brewpub is your huckleberry.

My husband & I eat here on a regular basis and, as a longtime(38 years) resident of Anchorage and a bona-fide foodie, I can say with great confidence that this unheralded little neighborhood gem is both the best moderately priced restaurant in Anchorage and one of Anchorage’s best kept secrets. The quality of the food at dinner time(I cannot speak to breakfast & lunch) is routinely creative, well-prepared, attractively presented and both delicious and satisfying. The wine list is excellent whether you order by the glass or bottle, the beer selections are numerous & high quality, and the service is impeccable. I love the fact that you can choose between a quiet dining area or the more lively bar area. All of this is so strongly 5 star that I am not dinging the PubHouse for its extremely retro(& that is being charitable) ambience. If they want to attract the young, hip crowd that should be flocking to a neighborhood bar/restaurant of this quality, then they need to make some investments in changing the décor, especially the carpets and the kitschy framed prints on the walls.

My second visit was much more impressive, and the awesome energy and patience of the staff deserve a special note. We arrived as part of a big group that kind of took over the bar dining area. No reservations, and the party enlarged here and there. We were also a mess in ordering all over the place, randomly. The server had a lot cut out for her, but she was awesome. She was timely and attentive, aided by the manager(I believe) and other servers as available. They were all very amenable about it(when I used to wait tables, such chaos made me grumbly, but I sucked it up. Maybe they did, too, but they were all so pleasant, you’d never know). Because of this, a good time with friends was allowed to be great. Sometimes, you gotta roll with the chaos. But it can be hard work for those negotiating the chaos, trying to serve. On top of this, the food was tasty, much more so than last time. We ordered a variety of dishes to share. The salmon tostones were excellent, probably my fave, though the rolls were a bit inconsistent, a few with an overwhelming amount of cheese. The mussels fresh from halibut cove were perfectly cooked in a flavorful broth and a good amount of bread on the side – a lot of places only give a few slices, which aren’t enough to soak up the tasty broth, which is half the point of steamed mussels, for me anyway. The scallops on apple slices with a creative kimchi gastrique were very good, unexpected, as were the blue corn covered calamari, and though the aioli went well, the poblano wasn’t to my taste, but that has nothing to do with the actual dish. We shared the fries, nice, thick cut, appropriately seasoned and salted, and shared another wagyu burger that came out correctly cooked the very first time. Thank goodness! It made a huge difference in the texture and flavor. The only off thing was the lemon drop martini, which came out tasting oddly sweet and minty instead of sour with a sugar rim. The bartender, however, corrected this, and returned with a nice, stiff, sharp concoction. I’ll definitely go back there, knowing that they are capable of much better food. The space is so warm and comfy that it’d make a good hangout place.

One of the worst values for your money! Way over priced for what you get. Ordered a 14 oz. New York strip medium rare, was maybe 10 oz. at best cooked medium with very strange mashed potatoes… that was it. I don’t mind eating high end if the value is there and it wasn’t. Will NEVER go back!

This is quite a limited review, seeing as I was k my in once and I only had a beer and some apps. They have a pretty terrific selection of beers on tap — 20 or so, and quite a few other types of drinks. My favorite being the La Fin Du Monde($ 6, tap — way cheaper than anywhere else I’ve had it, and served in the proper glass). The appetizers were terrific — the first time I’ve ever had a scotch egg and I loved it, and the wings were great — they reminded me of the Hooters wings I love and miss, but they were clearly good quality with a nice kick. I will definitely go again for the wings and the scotch egg.

I so hate to give a bad review but this place was awful. Specifically, the food. Bless our little waiter’s heart because he was super sweet and knew his job and the food really well. And, maybe we ordered wrong. But still. Awful. It’s clean, is designed to look like you’re sitting«outside» at little sidewalk bistros/cafes in Italy. Certainly not packed, barely anyone was inside and that should be a telltale sign. There’s a reason why places like The Moose’s Tooth and Ginger are packed. Because they’re delicious. My boyfriend and I each started with a beer. They have a pretty good selection of beers on tap. I got a grapefruit ale which was yummy and my boyfriend got Hopsmack IPA — «pretty aight» according to him. The menu is kind of weird. We were more expecting to go «out to dinner»…drinks, salad, bread, and entrees kind of thing. The menu is small, three sections, entrees, salads, appetizers. We couldn’t really decide on «entrees»…I think we were more after like a steak or maybe a pasta. They did have a ribeye on special. For $ 81. We made a game out of laughing at other patrons’ reactions to the $ 81 price tag announced by the waiter as he rattled off the specials to each table. We decided to share some appetizers. We ordered the Mac and cheese and the Wagyu Larb. We also requested some bread, even though it wasn’t on the menu, which the waiter happily obliged to. The bread was the best part. Organic and lightly toasted on the outside, warm baguette on the inside. Drizzled with olive oil and a sprinkling or maybe some salt and parsley for effect. It was good. The Mac and cheese was a bright yellow, almost like a curry. It was very off putting. It had a SLICE of cheese melted on top. Gruyère, I believe. When melted, Gruyère isn’t easy to eat because it isn’t stringy like a mozzarella. We had to resort to peeling the slab of cheese off with our forks. The taste was not reminiscent of cheese, but had more of a spice to it. Boyfriend said it tasted like pumpkin pie. The texture of the noodles themselves was actually good and chewy and al dente. The Larb was atrocious. It was a lettuce leaf filled with lukewarm at best meat and the texture was worse than dog food. It was like Taco Bell meat, which I’ll admit, I like… if Taco Bell meat was pulverized in a blender. For an hour. My boyfriend says maybe the rice powder traditionally used to cook Larb created this texture. All in all I feel bad because it is not in my nature to say such negative things. And certainly wouldn’t say anything bad about the staff. However, there’s a reason why no one is there on a Saturday evening. It’s simply not delicious.
