Royal Roller Rink

The place is very old school and classic. It’s great that skaters are permitted to use their own skates. Their inventory of skates has seen a lot of action and are not in the greatest shape. The staff is friendly and helpful. It’s a great spot for birthday parties. My kid has a great time & and so do I.

I have been here many times, individually and for events, and could not stand a one star review. It’s not as bad as the other review makes it, it’s a great place for a family fun night!

This is the worst roller rink I’ve ever been to. After paying for admission, skates and a locker, I left within 30 minutes.
1. The rink is dark. Other than black lites and a sole disco ball, there’s no fun lighting here.
2. The rink is FREEZING with a few hot spots. The ceiling is WAY too high and there’s no air circulation at all. I was freezing my butt off and then would get whalloped with a hot spot.
3. The skates are a thousand years old.
4. No readmission. If you step out, you pay to re-​enter.
5. The music and sound system sucks butt. Given how high the ceiling is, they need a much better sound system. You can barely hear the music. And I was bummed that all they play is Top 40. C’mon where’s the disco-​funk skating music? Super Freak anyone?!?
6. Foremost, the floor is an UTTER DISASTER. I’ve never skated on this type of floor and I absolutely hated it. It was tile instead of the traditional wood. They used this floor for hockey as well, and there is tape and terrible gounging in the floor. It’s clear they don’t regularly maintain the floor. This makes skating really hard work and not fun.
To be fair, I will mention the few good points about Royal:
1. Cheap night (Monday) is only $ 6
2. The rink is ginormous. Plenty of room for experienced skaters and newbies to share the floor.
3. Rage City Roller Girls hang out here. If you want to see some truly awesome skating, come and watch these gals.
I so wanted to like Royal Roller Rink, cause the roller derby girls are awesome. Honestly, though, I can’t get past the horrible, HORRIBLE floor. I will never skate here again.
