Salon Ivy – Downtown

Science and Beauty! Master stylist Brian has turned my brassy damaged hair back to stunning again with his formula and expertise! We have been working together for years, as he was the only person I found in Anchorage who was able to keep my hair from going red! Oh how I will miss him when I move out of Alaska next week!

Great cut, color, and conditioning treatment from Sarah! My hair hasn’t felt this healthy in a long time!

After my friend recommended this place I wanted to see what it was all about! Love my stylist Sarah; I’ve seen her several times and I’ve never been disappointed. One time I had to be rescheduled because of appointments running longer but she remembered and apologized. I was also recommended to get the shampoo and conditioner and it made my hair softer than I’ve had using any other shampoo. Thanks Salon Ivy!

I had Brian cut off 8+ inches of my hair today. Not only did he cut it perfectly, he shaped it and highlighted exactly how I had envisioned it. He is truly the best hairstylist I could ever hope for. Thank you for always making my hair look amazing!

I’ve had good haircuts here. But I had a bad experience here once with customer service rescheduling my appointment repeatedly. The owner Brian was very nice when it was brought to his attention and did everything he could to fix the situation. It’s not great to have an issue, but given the gracious response to my complaint, I’d recommend this place.

Over two years now and I am still extremely happy I found this salon. It’s upbeat, happy and so professional. Love going in and not only is my hair re-​energized but I am also. Thanks Brian and all! Excited for future plans!

I went in to get a trim and bring back my side bangs. I have been getting side bangs for a long time and I know that in order to have nice ones you need to fit them into the haircut, you don’t trim the hair and then cut a chunk of hair straight and put it to the side and call it side bangs. Even my fiancé was unsatisfied. You really need to mess up to have a man say that you didn’t to a good job. Anyways, not worth the 65 $ and the 15 $ tip was out of pity not satisfaction. Totally ruined my mood for my upcoming wedding in a month and a half. At least I have some time to grow them out. Maybe it’s my fault, I come from south Florida and got my hair cut at Fusion Salon by Aveda for more than 3 years. The level of quality is not even comparable to the one I got in Alaska. So maybe my expectations were too high from the read reviews.

So I have been that person who has came here for almost a year and forgot to review. Let me tell you about Lydia! I’m currently rocking my favorite hair I’ve EVER had due to her magic and creativity. I used to go somewhere were if I had an idea they would shut it down, then I found Lydia. She takes the idea you have and sculpts it into something that will work for you. I also have CURLY hair (3b) and she is awesome with coloring it so it doesn’t get much damage and cutting it. That can be hard to find. It is spendy in my opinion but I wouldn’t go somewhere else just to save money.
I love it here!

So it was brought to my attention that despite coming here every two weeks for a year now, I have failed to write a review!
I have been nothing but exceptionally pleased with my haircuts since I started. As I said before– every two weeks (thank you Army) is how often I get a haircut. Joanna is the BEST. She has helped me get my hair cut stylishly but also in regs which is a necessity. She’s good, quick, never late and is hysterical to boot!
The shop itself is always clean and bustling with activity. People genuinely seem to have a good time. Get here early? Have some coffee or tea while you wait.
The ONE thing I have an issue with is parking. It’s a very busy area so it can be a challenge to find a spot. Other than that, I love it!
Bonus: my wife will get her hair cut here and she’s VERY picky when it comes to getting her hair cut. I’m picky too but she is more so.

I’m always at salon ivy. at least every 5 weeks. and I love this place. they always do such an amazing job on my hair. My stylist wasn’t able to do my hair because of my schedule so Lydia did my hair and I love it just as much. never have been disappointed. Thank you salon ivy for always going above and beyond. Amazing, amazing, amazing! Best experience I have had since moving to Anchorage 2 years ago. Katie was fantastic, listened to everything I said, gave me great ideas and I left loving my hair. This is definitely my new salon of choice.

Well let me star by saying, I am an average dude that doesn’t send to much time on my hair. I could honestly care less it will grow back. I would normally go to any barber and have them cut my hair there no difference right. WRONG! today I went into Salon Ivy and didn’t have an appointment, I recommend making one they can get busy. I was informed they could get me in soon or they could have me come back. All of the staff said hello and welcomed me in when they came into the lobby. I decided to wait because she said no later than 30 mins.
I had an amazing conversation with the receptionist supper star working the appointments. She was some how able to talk with me answer the phone, take other appointments that had walked in and re schedule people who called in. I am pretty sure she was an air traffic controller for LAX or some other supper busy airport in a past life.
After only waiting 10 – 15 mins Katie W, was able to help me. I needed the help. You know when you worked at that fast food restaurant and you had to mop the floor with that mop they have had since the place opened that no one cleaned. That mop is fairly close to what my head looked liked, it was pretty bad.
Katie was great at asking and recommending based on what I had in the pass and even snuck in a joke or two. I was very happy to have worked with her. I will be back and in a more timely manner so I don’t look like one of the monkeys. Katie made me look and feel like a million bucks. I am supper happy and excited to have gotten my hair cut today.
You may ask why would I go to a place like this if I am not into it normally. Well I met the owner and know he is a caring person that dose some amazing things for the community. This is not something he promotes or advertises he does it because its the right thing to do. He is a good human! I wanted to come check out his business and support him!
The prices are way better than I had imagined. I am use to paying very low but thats for a crappy haircut with no love. I am more than willing to pay more to get a quality haircut done by people who care about you!

I came in for my brow appointment this morning, and as I was going to pay they said it was complementary.
Made me love this salon even more, it’s really nice when an establishment truly cares about their customers experience!

Yay! I found my salon! My appointment was to fix a pixie haircut that has been growing out with long stages of neglect in between. I got set up with Natalie, and I received a head massage during shampoo that erased any worry about how much money I was investing in the haircut. It was divine, and I left lookin’ darn cute with my new ‘do. I had a relaxing time, and didn’t feel any pressure to buy stuff as I was leaving. I also made my appointment request online, and they got back to me promptly about setting up the appointment. AND you get a confirmation call the day before, which is good for scatterbrains like me.

After too many horrible haircuts for my son, I decided to make him an appointment at the only salon I let touch my hair. I should have started here. Miss Sarah is patient and kind and, more importantly, gave my son an incredible haircut. Like the old adage says: «You get what you pay for.» Thank you Sarah :)

First of all: I should say that, when it comes to hair, I’m somewhat of a caveman.
I don’t really do elaborate grooming; I’m not really into regularly-​scheduled maintenance. Things are always kept clean, but not exactly trim.
I get my hair cut exactly one time a year. Usually around March. It’s some sort of «spring thing», it’s the hippiest thing about me.
I don’t think I’ve ever been in a «Salon» before. I’m not even sure I know what one is.
BUT, I met the owner at an event, and he was a very nice guy with lots of local savvy.
Then I checked out the Unilocal page (like ya do), and…5 stars… AVERAGE! That is unheard of for most businesses, let alone a Salon! I had to give them a shot.
Brian made me an appointment with Joanna.
Joanna and I talked pretty much continuously during the cut, about everything and anything. It wasn’t boring stuff like the weather. It was movies, books, travel, life-​styles, etc. It was awesome.
When all was said and done floor looked like the conclusion of a semi-​truck colliding with a lap dog and I was a sharp-​looking mofo.
I’ll definitely be back!

Had a haircut today with Joana (not too sure if I got th name correctly). I requested for a long bob and I got what i wanted. She nailed the length i wanted. Since i had a bad haircut back home, she was still able to fix it seamlessly. She’s very professional and nice. She made sure i was okay with what she was doing. so the service is superb for me. My mom, dad loves it too.
Also grabbed a great deal from Unilocal,$ 39 for $ 50-​worth of service, such a bargain!
Will definitely go back.

I was in need of a haircut super badly. My hair hadn’t been cut since I was living in California! Looking through Unilocal I found this salon. Great reviews and they even offered a Unilocal deal! I paid $ 50 for $ 75 worth of services. Such a great deal!
I made an appointment in the morning and they were able to accommodate me over my lunch break. Brittany cut my hair and did an amazing job! My hair looked and felt great! She was so nice and very knowledgeable on which products to recommend for my hair type.
They really have a great team at Salon Ivy! Everyone is so nice and very personable.
Overall, I had an awesome experience. They really know how to make a girl feel like a million bucks after a salon visit. They do a great job and make sure you leave happy! I really appreciate that type of service. I’ll definitely be back again for my future hair needs!

I have visited quite a few salons in Anchorage (I will not name them, because you don’t need to go to them, this is the place to be). This place is quaint and cutesy, but modern. It sits off the side of the street in a little green house.
Firstly, make sure to park in the rear, not in the side parking lot (the rear parking lot in between the fences if free. If you want to pay then go ahead and go to that parking lot if your just dying too!
Next, ask for Brian, although i’m sure any of the hairstylists may do wonders. I enjoyed his grace and knowledge of hair coloring. He was quite knowledgeable on how long it had been since my last two coloring’s and told me some awesome info about the way the back of my hair has been colored in the past.
He was not one of those stylists that takes two hours just to mix the colors and put your hair in all the tin foil, it took him less then that, I do believe my hair was ready to be washed within about an hour. Other hair places have taken up to two and a half hours for doing the same thing to my hair.
Next I had one of his stylists wash my hair and it was heavenly! The scalp machine she gives is just amazing. Don’t be fooled she may be tiny but she has some serious power behind those little bitty hands :) I’m not exactly sure how many different things went in my hair, i’m assuming a shampoo/​conditioner and something else to seal the deal on my color I believe.
I learned a lot about impressive scissors, just ask, you will gain some useful knowledge.
Then it came to the drying and cut, he also used some sort of gloss or something i’m not sure what it was.
I am very impressed with my hair, I myself asked Brian to just go with it and do whatever he thought would most pronounce my facial construction. He tailored my hair to my face in a way that has not been conquered.
I will most definitely come here again and again, I already have my next appointment in six weeks :)
