I tried the Magpie when it was stationed during a Downtown event. I had the Hoosier Tenderloin(which was huge!) and the Egg sandwich. Good stuff, and it was nice to wash it down with a house-made lavender soda. I liked how the staff was personable too, but nothing here really blew me away. It looks like they have a couple of long-term staples, so I’m looking forward to see what else they will try on the menu in the future.

A fried green tomato BLT?! WTF? Biscuits and gravy at a food truck? It’s true; and it’s awesome. The magpie is a great find if you can find it. Friendly, clean and awesome from-scratch goodness. Get there and get some.

First of all: what a perfect name! Did you know that the magpie is the only bird that can recognize its own reflection? Anchorage is infested with them, but it’s a cunning, intelligent infestation. I have been dying to try The Magpie ever since I first heard about it. The food is «cute», «crafty», and gourmet(this was the buzzword we used to use before«artisanal» became all the rage) as they come. I got an egg sandwich for $ 9 and a coffee for $ 2. The egg sandwich was very tasty. Packed with local greens and a nice homemade sauce of some sort. But…then it was over. In only a couple of minutes I had devoured the entire sandwich and I still had a slight pang in my tummy. Maybe they could have some larger-sized items? Maybe they already do? I loved the quality of the food, I just wish there was more of it.

This trailer has a one of a kind feel to it and a wonderful crew behind it, my favorite is the fried green tomato BLT. I love how all the floors work with the sourness of the tomato but she could use a finer ground polenta for the crust as it is a bit grainy and distracts from all the great things about this sandwich. Also try the house made sodas on board, I believe they have a special one floating around quite often.

I was stalking The Magpie for a while after reading about it, and finally tracked it down at the 4th of July celebration. I was hoping to try their biscuits and gravy but didn’t see it on the menu. When I asked about it, the girl told me that they«secretly» had some left and that they’d make it for me, which they did. And, it was totally delicious. My expectations were high because it’s a food truck, and with a smaller, more focused menu than a restaurant, they can’t afford to serve anything disappointing. Most restaurants have very disappointing biscuits and gravy with gross gravy from a mix or something. But not here. It tasted homemade, and I know because I make it at home. It was savory, delicious and probably the best biscuits and gravy I’ve been served around here. My friend had the fried green tomato BLT sandwich, which I tried a bite of, and it was also delicious. There was a lot going on in that sandwich, a lot of flavors, and it worked. After seeing people ordering the Hoosier Tenderloin sandwich, I know I have to go back. Also, a stranger nearby offered me a bite of Katy cake, which was also delicious. The Magpie is a food truck to watch for. Nice young women with a lot of very good food.

Stopped by on my way to the airport, they had free hot chocolate and delicious mini pancakes for the bike-to-work folks. Had the egg sammich, holy cow tasty! A fragrant, chewy rosemary bread and some kind of magical sauce, egg perfectly cooked, fresh greens. I wish I could have one right now. Service was quick and super friendly. Wish this food truck was in my town.

Had a delicious breakfast sandwich and French toast. Both were great. Although the i wish they had a bit more choices on their menu but that won’t stop be from coming back. Most of the items were gluten free which I usually find hard to eat but they manage to make them delicious.
