I’ve been there for breakfast and lunch many times, and have never been disappointed. The lemon poppy seed pancakes are excellent, as is «The Basic»(I substitute asparagus for potato, just for variety). Even rhetoric English Muffins are house — made.

Pretty solid. After going downtown to another good place on 4th and being told it was over an hour wait… I Unilocaled and found this place. I walked right in and got a seat… No waiting… No noise… very courteous waitress. Food was so fresh and hot! I highly recommend. I had breakfast. Large portions. Cooked exactly as I ordered(extra crispy bacon). Sweet potato/Yukon gold mix was tasty.

I came here for my birthday not too long ago and the look and feel of the place was great! I really enjoyed the food and overall everyone in my party was satisfied with our experience here. The only thing I would add is maybe the service could be a little faster, when I first got there I was so hungry but didn’t want to eat too much before the rest of my party got there so I just ordered a drink and some toast. I got my drink pretty fast but it seemed like a good 20 – 30 minutes before I got my toast and I couldn’t understand why. But anywho, I would go back in the future.

My husband and I have traveled the US and have enjoyed some AMAZING cuisine from all over. Red Chair Café has by far surpassed our expectations. We tried the Hair of the Dog, as well as the Traditional Benedict. Both dishes blew us away in both taste, as well as presentation. This chill, eclectic hangout is a must try!

omg this is my new favorite lunch spot! I work nearby and finding a healthy yummy lunch to go can be challenging. the staff were so nice. easy to find parking. I had the oasis veggie wrap, it was so fresh and delicious. I’m probably gonna order again tomorrow and definitely be coming back quite often

Whiskey crab bisque was everything I could have wanted. Very tasty lunch, set off by thoughtfull presentation and a decidedly hipster steampunk décor. Great variety of menu portions includes half sandwiches and veggie options as well as non-vegetarian.

Service was on point! This is the Red Chair I know and love. All of the servers were so attentive and also offered suggestions. Since the delectable quiche of the day is no longer available, I decided to try something new. Their All out Veggie omelet is delectable! It had a delicious amount of mushrooms, tomatoes, onion, red pepper, and kale. This, plus their popular steam punk potatoes calls for an epic breakfast /brunch. The best part is that breakfast can be found at any hour(thank goodness :-)). So even though I had to say farewell to their delectable quiche, they have so many other clever and tasteful dishes.

There are a few breakfast places that I frequent here in Anchorage. Kriner’s Diner is one of my favorites, but coming in at a close second is ‘The Red Chair’. This unique little café boasts a unique ‘steampunk’ theme. It’s located on the edge of downtown right below one of the only apartment buildings in the area. It’s hard to find, and the parking is minimal, but it’s worth stopping in at. The second you walk into this place, the first thing you’re going to notice is the décor. Rich elegant hues of red, brown, and black fill this place. On the other hand, the art has a bit of a Victorian steampunk feel to it. And then there’s an industrial vibe that comes with the architectural make-up of the place. It’s unique and yet it all fits together perfectly. There is precisely ONE red chair in the restaurant. The rest are black. The chairs are comfy. There are multiple different tables each with 2 to 4 chairs around them. All of the seating is well-spaced, but the place tends to be better for one-on-one dates and smaller groups. I can’t imagine a big group comfortably fitting into this restaurant. There’s a coffee area in the front, so if you just want something quick– you can come in and grab a drink. On the other hand, I have to recommend sitting down. This place has one of the best breakfasts in Anchorage and their gourmet options are worth delving into. They have a very unique biscuits and gravy option. It’s one of my favorite biscuits and gravy meals in the world, but it is very rich(and something to have on a special occasion rather than every day). Whiskey biscuits are topped with a sausage-heavy sauce that will have your mouth watering– trust me. Their ice tea is another unique option– as it has a strong ginger undertone that I find really tasty. Don’t expect ‘typical’ from this restaurant. Their food mimics that of fine dining, and for the price you pay you ARE getting food worth the money. It’s not too expensive, but it’s slightly pricier than other options in the city. With that being said, the food is always delicious and I’ve never felt as though I didn’t get what I paid for. This place is never loud and rarely crowded. If you want a nice little spot to eat a delicious city breakfast– The Red Chair is the place to go. Stop in and check out their photography and ever-changing art collection. Stare at the abstract pieces permanently painted onto their walls. Admire the open set-up and the treat yourself to some very fine meal options. This place is casual enough to visit on a weekday morning with a lover or close friend, but the food is some of the classiest in the city.

Ate here for lunch this week with a coworker who’s here from out of town. He picked this place, and walking in, we had high hopes. Trendy, nice décor, hipster. I still had reservations, as every trendy restaurant I’ve been to in this town has all been all cosmetic, failing in what they should be excelling in: the food! Immediately, we were put off that no less than 7 things on the menu were unavailable. What? It was noon, and you don’t have what seemed to be all your good menu items?! Ok, so what to order out of what’s left? I ordered half of the Grilled Fanciful BLT — add avocado $ 1.75 and I wanted a side of ranch dressing for my fries, which I was informed would be an extra 50 cents because it was homemade. What? Ok. My coworker got the RC Cuban. The restaurant was maybe almost half full? So when a server came out after about 15 minutes to our table, the timing seemed appropriate. Unfortunately, the items were not what we ordered, and they went back to the kitchen. So after over 30 minutes, we finally got our two sandwiches. Wow, mine was thin. I had to open the sandwich to make sure that the avocado that I had paid extra for was actually in the sandwich! I must say, it was very disappointing. It was OK, but there wasn’t much to the sandwich, I couldn’t taste the prosciutto, if it was even in there, and it didn’t hold a finger to the similar BLT that my husband had made me last weekend. Oh, and that«homemade ranch dressing» that I had to pay 50 cents extra for — wow, it was thin. Like straight milk with a ranch mix. Note to restaurant: you don’t charge extra for making something homemade!!! Making things from scratch is what you’re supposed to do!!! Not to mention that both of our thick cut fries were not in the least bit crispy, but large, sad, soggy potato sticks, with what looked to be a few very thin, inch-long crispy pieces thrown in. What? So, basically, you’re teasing me with something crispy that I wish I had more of, with a bunch of failed potato sticks. Great. My coworkers sandwich was equally unimpressive, and he couldn’t fathom why we had to wait so long for our food. It wasn’t hot, nor was the place busy. Very disappointed. Overpriced. Rack up another trendy Anchorage restaurant that only puts effort into looking the part, but not following though on making actually good food, at a reasonable price.

I absolutely loved this place. We went there for lunch during the week. We were greeted and sat right away. The décor is very artsy and creates an enjoyable ambience. But what really took me for surprise was the menu. It had many«classic» dishes, but almost everything had something creative about it. It took me a while to order. There were so many items I wanted. I had the Cubano sandwich and was amazed. My friend had the pulled pork eggs bennie. His was outstanding as well. It was nice to still have a breakfast menu offered at 2pm. Great wine and beer selection and the service was friendly and professional. I will definitely be going back to check out everything on the menu.

This place has some good things going for it– a more adventuresome food menu with a lot of local, organic options. It has a recent, hipster atmosphere/art/décor that Anchorage is sorely in need of(sometimes). I can only take 1980s AK décor for so long. I like that they seem to serve breakfast all day… but I didn’t like the fact that they handed me two separate menus and a verbal list of items they were out of stock on. I had the Turkey and Brie sandwich, and received massive amounts of meat and cheese goodness. Some notes– the kitchen closes an hour before they actually close up shop. I find that kinda weird and a little bit lazy. Is this just a Sunday thing? Their layout is very exposed, and although the place was nearly empty, we got put at table near the service station and bathroom… not the most charming place to seat someone. I’ll come back; I want this place to do well and they did good enough to earn a second chance visit.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with the recent reviews here. The service is an unorganized mess. It’s really bad. It’s very frustrating. I walked in here, stood by the«wait to be seated» sign. A server asked me what I’d like… I said«I’d like to be seated?» I was seated, she gave me a water and said she’d be right back to get my drink order. She never returned. She then went to attend to another table, and sat two more tables. And gave the other tables coffee. I’m still sitting there, dreary-eyed, with my water. Then another server came out! And… took the orders of the other two tables that had arrived after me. Some 15 minutes later, a third server came out and FINALLY took my order. I guess there was an invisibility potion in my toothpaste, it must’ve finally worn off! To her credit she was really nice. I got the pablano pepper, kudos to them for having such a unique breakfast entrée! It was good. The«steampunk» potatoes were just ok. I really wanted them to be crispier. I also think this place really, really needs free WiFi. It has a distinctly«cool coffee shop» vibe, but… no WiFi? Seriously? There are 20+ WiFi networks in the vicinity but none of them belong to them. Would’ve made the last 15 minutes of the invisibility potion a bit more bearable.

Service was terrible. We ordered our food, then about 20 minutes later, the server came back to inform my husband that the had ran out of the poppy seed pancakes… and I understand that things happen. I was fine until I got my quiche. It was burnt so bad, I couldn’t eat the crust. I told the server. And he informed me that he would let the cook know. He didn’t even apologize. And when we paid the bill. He acted insulted and would not speak to us. I WILLNEVERBEBACK!

Great ambiance and service. Great coffee. Food lacks technique. Ordered French toast and veggie omelette with bacon. Bacon arrived very overcooked, crumbly, and inedible-fell apart and shattered like glass it was so crispy. They brought more and it was undercooked– the fat was not cooked. The French toast was dry, not fluffy or moist-seems they maybe left out the egg yoke and didn’t use any milk. The ambiance doesn’t make up for the food. Won’t be back… Okay, might go back for the killer coffee!!!

Interesting joint. A little incongruous with the attached lodging business, but I was game when a friend invited me to join him. The surroundings were nice, and the service even nicer. I had some tea and a biscuit. Lots of hot water for my tea, and good homemade jam for my biscuit. Not too sweet… just the way I like it. Lets the flavor of the fruit come through. Kale Bake not my cup of tea. Just some veggies cooked together and a couple of eggs on top. On the watery side. If I were the chef, I would have wilted the veggies, cracked two eggs on top, and thrown in the oven. Sorry… amateur chef in me coming out.

We ordered the following Kale Bake(vinegar notes-delish none the less) Daily Quiche(filling, decent slice) Lemon Poppy Seed Pancakes(meh, I had high expectations) Skyline Chicken Sandwich w/Salad(where’s the Cajun?!) Service was 5⁄5! Fantastic customer service, staff was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious, the pancakes tasted like poopy seed muffins; unfortunately we did not get enough lemon. Daily quiche was savory and very filling. The kale bake was Devine! Skyline sandwich was good but I paid an extra .75c to make it Cajun and again that flavor was no where to be tasted. The overall ambiance was a hipster/upscale feel. I will return and suggest visiting here with a group or a date etc. also– their wine and beer list was a wide selection for those that favor dark reds or woody drafts vs fruity whites and apple sweet ciders. OH– ANDALLTHEIRSALADDRESSINGSAREHOMEMADE! I had the miso and it was goooood! Also check out their baked goods, dark chocolate red wine cookies and they are sold in a pack of 4 for $ 8.

Okay 4 stars for dinner– 3 for breakfast. Dinner the app brussel sprouts spectacular. I got something healthy and veggie or vegan… and it was earthy as stated. I wasnt a fan… but I like ordering the oddest thing on the menu. Everyone else in my party ordered burgers pasta etc— and it was all REALLYGOOD! The vibe is big city urban and I love it, Breakfast– okay. Every breakfast review is competing with Snow City so the bar is really FRIGGENHIGH. I had poppy seed pancakes with scrambled eggs and a side of the asparagus. Asked for salsa and they told me it would be 50 cents– I dont care but my hubby was irritated. Like I have said in the past I seek a taste experience and if it is GREAT then the price is right know matter what it is. Portions of asparagus so small… was advertised as grilled with onions and almonds but this just looked grilled. Poppy seed pancakes were yum but didnt meet my hype. Wanted more syrup– but packed them up for rewarming with maple syrup I have at home. Hubby got steak black bean pepitos omelet. It was okay — tasted to healthy for my man. Steak was tough :(THESWEETPOTATO side is YUMYUM! He is a «eat everything guy» and he didn’t feel like eating more once he satisfied morning hunger. Keep going to try the«hidden rose» which has not been there yet. Gonna keep trying till I try this little oddity! Wanna try Almond french toast next time…

I loved this place. Met up with a friend for breakfast here the other day. The atmosphere is wonderful and quaint. The people are beyond nice. We ordered hazelnut almond milk lattés(they have rice, soy and almond milk) and it was amazing. Not overly charged like you would be at most places. I also got their steam punk potatoes and their house made peach jam with an English muffin– so delicious. My friend got their lemon poppy seed pancakes. I tried a bite and I was blown away. Again, great prices and amazing food. Also our waiter looked and acted like Norman bates which was an odd but added bonus.
