Got some terrible food here that was made incorrectly and inedible. When we called, we had to first listen to them argue over who was going to take the call(I guess they think setting the phone down means it’s on mute). Then, the manager actually told us that«That’s just how we do it when we’re busy.» So they know they’re making crappy food, and they’re taking your money for it, they just honestly don’t care. I recently went through the drive-thru at the Greenwood location off of 37, and it was the first time since I moved to Anderson that I had some decent Steak n Shake. This location in Anderson needs some serious help.

I only gave this one star because it wouldn’t let me post otherwise. My husband and I were just in there and a man walked in with his dog. Now I understand if this dog is a service animal but it was not. It was a chihuahua wrapped in a blanket. clearly his pet. The were allowed to sit in the booth where Angela took there order and was openly talking with the man about the dog having the same order as last time and the man made the comment that the dog eats right off the plate. Yuck then we went to the manager Damon who basically refused to fix this issue and let a another person guessing friend or employee to tell me to go F$&@ myself. Not even a sorry then made me pay and got smart with me again for being upset. So it just cost me 20 bucks to eat in a kennel. Gross! There are laws against the stuff!

Took 30 minutes to get waters. Shakes had cleaning fluid poured into them. Couldn’t get one burger order right after saying a Cajun burger wasn’t on the menu. One burger was two different burgers with different shaped buns put together. Will never go here again.

THISSTOREMGRDISCRIMINATEDAGAINST A KOREANWARVETWHOJUSTWANTEDTOSITOUTSIDEFOR A MOMENTFORFRESHAIR! Yesterday(10/15/2015) I stopped into the Steak & Shake in Anderson, Indiana per the request of an 82 yr old African-American disabled Korean & Vietnam retired Army Veteran friend. He is now in the mid-stage of having Alzheimer’s and is in remission from cancer and other serious health issues. He goes no where without wearing his favorite hat — one that is worn and says that he is a Korean Vet of the US Army. He wanted me to take him to Steak & Shake as he wanted a milk shake. I was hungry also so I also was up to going in. Whie waiting for the order, which was requested to be made to go, my elderly disabled veteran friend asked if he could take a chair outside for a few minutes to sit down and get some fresh air. He had just gotten out of the hospital a few days prior after getting a breathing treatment. The server responded that she would check with the mgr — Alexandra DeLong — to see if it was okay. The server returned and told him, to which later Ms. DeLong admitted to, that Ms. DeLong had stated«No. Their corporate office had people that were on their way to the restaurant and the image of having him sitting outside on a chair would portray an image that would not be what they would want to have. It would make the restaurant look bad.» I asked the server if I had heard her correctly — she had acknowledged that I had. I told her how appauled I was that such an inference would dare be made and that she could let Ms. DeLong know that I was going to call their corporate office right then to ensure — if possible — that they were aware of the blatant discrimination and complete disrespect toward an 82 yr old African American disabled Korean & Vietnam War Veteran. While I was on the phone with the corporate office for Steak & Shake Ms. DeLong approached and informed me that she had called her District Mgr and had been told that she was right in her respone to his request«because they did not want to portray that they allowed homeless people to sit out side of the restaurant when their corporate office people arrived.» I asked her, in disgust, «You do realize that I am on the phone with your corporate office, right?» She then stated to me that she would like to speak with me about the issue — mind you I was still on the phone with their corporate office. I told her flatly that I was discussing the issue with the right person and that it was in her best interest to take my suggestion and walk away from me, complete the order that we came in to get, paid for, and had now been waiting over 30 minutes to receive. She started to internet, and I stopped her calmly and told her, calmly, that she was interrupting my phone call to corporate and to remember that call is being recorded and if she didn’t wish for me to make her cry it would be best if she go and check on that order so I could finish the call, and take the elderly friend I help back home so he could rest. She huffed, she puffed, and she walked away. 38 minutes after placing a to-go order they finally had it ready. Good management does not ever allow for such discrimination of any veteran who is a paying customer. Good management would never think of being disrespectful. What kind of image has the Anderson, Indiana Steak & Shake left? Not a great one! Shame on you, Alexandra DeLong!

Usually ANY Steak and Shake is well done –you get your usual and it is the same anywhere. This one needs to find a new cook. Ordered a Guacamole Steakburger. Got a dab of avocado(not guacamole) and a small Steakburger with no lettuce and tomato, barely any fries. The service was good and the cherry Coke was good. There were few people there at peak dinner time. Should’ve been our first clue. We walked out saying the same thing – worst Steak and Shake we’d ever been to. Skip this one! They only get star for the servers and fast check out.

Went through the drive-thru at around 10:30pm on July 4th. Flat out awful! Shake machine was down. So is it just Steak n’ ______? Ordered a turkey sandwich and steak burger combos. Took over 20 mins to get it and it was still wrong. Missing an order of fries and the wrong dressing for the salad. Had to go in and get it and the fries were cement sticks anyway. Competence at an all time low.

This place is terrible. We stood there like dopes waiting for a table. Waiting when half the seats were empty and there were numerous employees standing around. If I didn’t know any better I’d swear we were ignored because we were an interracial couple and there was not one African american in the building. We ended up walking out without ever getting seated. Avoid like the plague.

Desmond was a great server, very fast and polite. The entire restaurant staff was polite to each of the parties they were serving — very impressive.

Went inside to order 5 shakes to go. Waited at the counter for 6 minutes and no one acknowledged us. I asked the serving staff if anyone was working the counter. They looked confused. Finally someone came to the register and looked at us, no smile or greeting. 30 minutes later and we still don’t have our shakes!!! Will never come back to this location.

I love Steak ‘n’ Shake but by far the worst one in the entire chain. They are continuing their record of mistakes and blatant disregard of pride in their service. The streak continues with not getting my order correct 8 times in a row and still going strong! Drive through or dine in they are bound to mess it up! I only come back because, as a whole, the company has great food with many choices I like. After I went with someone who found a fingernail in their shake I will no longer allow their streak to grow.

I don’t go through the drive thru to «park and wait.» Especially when there is no one behind me. Explain to me why this is necessary?

This is my 201st review. Out of every steak&shake I’ve been to, this place is the worst. I’d been in Indy all day, visiting someone at iu med ctr. Driving home I got the hankering for a burger, cheese fries and shake from s&s. From start to end, it took 35 minutes, the order was wrong, the fries were limp, and the shake was gross. I first went inside to use bathroom and perhaps order inside as the drive through window line was 5 cars deep. The floor in restaurant was sticky, and bathroom was dirty. There were grumpy looking people waiting on either food or to be seated, so I decided perhaps the drive through might be faster. Sitting 2 cars behind the ‘order station’, I figured this would take 10 minutes max to get back on 69 and be on our way… 10 minutes later we pulled up to the speaker/microphone to see a cardboard sign with the word«broken» scrawled on it covered the apparatus. No ordering here… must wait to get to window. Well, we’ve already wasted 15 min so far, perhaps another 10? 15 minutes later we pull up to the window. Some how my order of 3 items got converted to 4. The person didn’t have change enough to handle a 50 dollar bill. The fries were borderline warm, and not crispy, the shake tasted like burnt marshmallows, and I left without the 2nd order of fries that I apparently paid for(but didn’t want) because they weren’t ready yet. I would not recommend this particular steak and shake location, which is sad because I usually prefer s&s over most other fast food joints when you need something on the go. Clean up or close up.

Don’t bother with the drive through. It would be quicker to go inside, take a seat, eat your meal, and tip your server.

This is another chain I don’t have a lifelong connection to, since I’m not from around here; the food is okay, but not really my cuppa. The breakfast skillets are quite tasty, though, and not served with tiny potato shreds that they want you to think are fries.

Average Steak N Shake right off the highway. A good place to pop in for a happy hour(2 – 4PM) milkshake for the final stretch back to Indy.

While I do enjoy Steak and Shake, the atmosphere and service seems to be uniformily mediocre at all locations. The dining area is overcrowded even during slow periods. People who work at S&S are universally detached and disinterested. I’ve never actually seen a S&S that had a clean floor. Yet I still go here to eat sometimes because the food is decent. I like the 3-way chili, better than Skyline IMHO. The burgers beat any of the fast food chains by a mile. I just wish the dining area was cleaner and the service staff actually cared.

Been hearing about Steak N Shake for years… supposedly they are coming to CA? We’ll see?! This location was across the street from our hotel. I had the Frisco Melt… delicious! Fries… delicious! Also tried the 99 cent breakfast tacos a couple mornings. Egg & Potato and Bean & Cheese… good for a quick and cheap breakfast on the road! This place has good burgers, or maybe they just taste better when you don’t have the place around the corner from home?! Probably a good thing they don’t have Steak N Shake in CA. I would probably eat there too often! Open 24 hours too!

Steak and Shake=Food coma. Shoestring french fries, great fast-food steak burger, delicious beef soup, perfect-tasting chocolate malt(MALT, not shake). How can a fast-food chain be this good? And they’re open 24 hours! And why aren’t they in California? 8⁄252:30AM: I was at a cousin’s till after 2AM visiting and reminiscing and was hungry when I got back to the motel area so I swung back in here and just got a bowl of beef veggie soup and a single steakburger. Both were just delicious. I do not eat hamburgers. I have had three hamburgers this past week. Help! 9⁄2 I just wanted a light dinner so I stopped in here again at 10pm(hey – it’s right across the street from my motel) and decided to try their«5-way chili” – chili over spaghetti with cheese and onions on top. Good decision! It was delicious! So I ate for under $ 5(well, $ 6 with tip). I’m happy.
