I had the pleasure of speaking with Brenda McGowan today and she was a fresh of breath air. I have only been doing my own taxes for three years now and I’ve been audited and owed money for 2 out of 3 of those years, so it’s been a very heavy financial burden and it’s been emotionally and physically draining trying to run around and collect everything that the IRS is requesting and playing tag with paperwork as we dispute each others’ math. Brenda gave me very clear and concise instructions on what I needed to do to get all this mess cleared up and even took the time out to look over my previous tax years for similar errors on my part. She went over and beyond the call of duty and the IRS (of all government agencies) needs more people like her. At the same time, when you call these folks, please don’t take your frustrations out on them. It’s hard because most of us feel the need to vent to/​against someone, but working in customer service myself, I understand it’s not their doing and Brenda made it clear on several occasions that she had no personal vested interest in whether I owed or not, but she was happy to help me figure out what I needed to submit to figure that out.
