My ultimate favorite diner. Breakfast is so good here. The coffee is amazing. If ur up for a nice drive on the highway and enjoy some mountain view in your drive, his is the perfect spot. If you don’t like the view, come anyway because the food is worth it. I’ve brought many friends here and they all love it. I ordered pizza the other day and that was delicious too! service is great too. Family orientated and it’s a mom & pop shop that you will love.

I’ve eaten here twice going up and down the mountain. I’ve not had a bad experience with servers but they don’t check on you too often which is sometimes good and sometimes bad. The food was actually really good. My boyfriend got the biscuits and gravy and the portion was huge and piping hot. I opted for a burger and fries and found it to be a pretty decent plate. The other time we went, we had breakfast and their breakfast is good, as well.

This place doesn’t deserve a star. After finishing a fun day at Big Bear with my big family I stopped there at 6PM for dinner since we were starving and there aren’t many places to dine on the 38 going down from big bear city. Got inside the«restaurant» and I saw some people leaving, so I asked a lady if they still serving and she said: «it’s closed». Then, I told her that there’s a sign(yellow) posted in the door that says Fridays closes at 7PM. Then, the lady told me rolling her eyes with in an ill-manner vibe: «You know what, it doesn’t really matter I’m the owner and it’s close!» First time I experience this level of rudeness and primitivism from a business and even worst from the owner(plump white woman) itself. I have a 3 little daughters and they were so pump to eat there, my 2 yr old baby was crying because i had to put her back in her car seat. The place looks country and pretty in the middle of the forest but the owner ruined it. I was enthusiastic to eat there since I love mom & pops restaurants instead of chains. First time complaining I don’t like to do it but this time I felt that 15 min of my time would be worth doing it. I wish all the best for this place in 2016

This restaurant is terrible! We finished skiing in Big Bear and saw this restaurant was open with a parking lot full of cars. By the time my kids had put on their shoes and gotten out of the car, the restaurant was closing up(at 6:18pm on a Friday). I asked them if they were open and they said only if we were locals. Thanks. My 4 year old and 7 year old thank you.

Fantastic breakfast lodge! They have a great staple variety of American breakfasts: french toast, pancakes, biscuits & gravy to name a few. The french toast have an especially nice exterior crunch to them. They’ve got great coffee selections brewed up which are self serve and an old fashioned pie display case with a decent selection of fresh fruit pies. The price is right, and the service is great. I might even drive back here just for the food(on a motorcycle, of course.)

We’ve been eating here for 30+ years. Love the current owners, who are a family. The prices are more than fair, since it’s THE only restaurant up there. The service is friendly and the food is very good. Their potato items are great; don’t be afraid to ask if you like them a special way; ie well done, crispy, etc. They aim to please. Breakfast, burgers and sandwiches are all very good. Pies are homemade. The only thing I wouldn’t recommend is the deep fried fish, but you can’t win ‘em all. Everything else… YES. Tip…get the home fries/country potatoes with bell-pepper and onion. Yum!

We live in Forest Falls, so we come here frequently. The food it good. It is a diner, and therefore they do diner food very well. Breakfast is always a huge hit. When we have friends or family visiting, we usually eat at least one meal here. Tiana is a great server and always cheerful. Brett and Cathy are very nice also. Some of our favorites are the country fried steak, French toast, biscuits and gravy, and the pizza.

We stopped here on our way to Forest Falls to go to the waterfall. We were seated quickly and received drinks quickly. The food was mostly just ok. My french fries were dripping grease. Our waiter was terrible. Hardly said 2 words to us the whole time. Never checked on us after giving our food. Had to ask for refill of Ice Tea and then he acted as if we were bothering him. He brought the refill back to the table with no Ice in it. Ice Tea really needs Ice in it. He never returned after that. We had to go up to the cash register to pay our bill. We told the girl at the register how horrible the service was and she acted as tho she could care less. We will never go back again.

All around, this is my favorite place to eat. The food is always good, hot, and served with a smile. The servers make you feel welcome, the atmosphere is perfect for the quaint mountain community, woodsy and at home feel. The staff makes the experience well worth the trip. The various food options offer something for everyone. We try to go there for breakfast at least once a week or more. Try it, you won’t be sorry.

I’ve eaten at so many breakfast places and have slowly become a French toast connoisseur. This is by far the best French toast and has become my favorite place to get some. I love how the bread is a little crispy instead of soggy, reminds me of funnel cakes for some reason. The staff is very friendly and their portions are great :) What’s not to love about this place?

We stop here every time we head up to Big Bear. Been doing so for almost 20 years now. Their tuna fish sandwiches are second to none.

This place is great after a day of snowboarding. It’s a cozy place with great homemade food. I had the country fried steak and gravy. Omg! Soooo delicious. This is going to be our spot to stop each time we come up here. Highly recommend this place.

Stopped on a chilly late morning to just browse around the cheerful premises with all the folksy local-color décor and the cheery woodstove — and the attractive display of homemade pies and cakes caught my attention. ‘Anything with nuts?’ I asked the friendly waitress and she recommended the carrot cake drifted with a big creamy mound of frosting. YUM. We shared it on the way to Barton Flats and the coming back down 38 saved the styrofoam shell for another slice. An accent of lemon zest in the cream cheese frosting added piquancy to the rich nutty cake. Country courtesy in an inviting cozy eatery! A long way from Hospitality Lane indeed.

I was working in the area and this was the only restaurant in miles. No time to waste driving around, I decided to give it a try. Bad call. Small potions and the food taste like came out of a can and the heated in a microwave. They gave me the wrong bread for my reuben and there was no taste on the ingredients. Never eating there again. I gave them 2 starts because the potato salad was good.

After reading all the reviews for this place I was nervous to try it but i thought regardless they had food, water and a bathroom, a perfect midway point for a day of hitting the local trails with a group of off road trucks. After 3 hours of trekking the various snow covered trails in the mountains we arrived at the Oaks. We were greeted courteously even though the place was busy, we were told to pick which ever seats we wanted so we sat at the booths closest to the wood burning stove so we could take our coats off. We had a friendly male waiter with short hair, his name slips my mind but he took our drink order which showed up shortly after. We took time looking over the large menu and we all finally made decisions. I love when a breakfast joint will let me mix and match pretty much any items I want into a combo. I ordered 5 halves of French toast, an order of corn beef hash, eggs scrambled soft and an order of hashbrowns. The food arrived much sooner than we expected and while it didn’t all come out at once it came out fast and efficiently. The French toast was some of the best I’ve ever had and I’m a breakfast aficionado if I do say so. The French toast was sweet and had a crunchy layer on every surface of the toast that I have never experienced before. I’m actually hungry for some right now as I’m typing this review. The corn beef hash was as good, but it’s a hard dish to mess up, while it was a little mushy and the potatoes were finely chopped it’s taste was good. The eggs were cooked just as I ordered and my only complaint would be that my hashbrowns weren’t as crunchy as I typically like but they were still good but I would try the home fries next time as my wife’s looked good. Our waiter was knowledgeable of the local trailers and provided up with some tips on trail closer along with fun things to find and see he also warned us with trails would be extremely muddy and slick from their location on the mountain. That’s great service if you ask me. Our bill was only about $ 22 with 2 people and we ate like royalty. I think the pricing was excellent for the portion sizes and amenities. We actually swung back through later into the day so we could use their restrooms. They had signs in the bathrooms asking you to at least buy a candy bar, water or other drink to help offset the bathrooms costs(septic). We all gladly bought candy bars to enjoy on the road home. We will definitely we returning to this place.

The Oaks is perfect for breakfast. Its clean and comfortable, excellent service. The prices are fair. Didn’t try the deserts but after reading other Unilocal reviews, I will go back and have one or two.

This was a great place to have breakfast after camping at Heart Bar. It is nice and simple and give you the mountain lodge feeling. They have a coffee bar that you can get either deaf, nutty coffee or Colombian coffee. Your server asks if you want water and brings a pitcher and cups. Their menu is lovely nice and to the point. It’s gives you a few different selections with eggs and lets you make your own meal instead of having a lot of different selections with different names on them. Everyone was really friendly there and for 4 people to have breakfast and endless coffee it was roughly $ 50. It is definitely a taste of home cooking!
