Mickey Rats is cool-ISH. Once I moved to Buffalo from Long Island, I knew I was going to miss a few specific things; pizza, bagels, fellow Jet fans, my family and friends and of course, the beach. My new Buffalo friends told me to relax and that beach season was right around the corner and they would introduce me to Mickey Rats which they assumed would instantly develop into a loving relationship. So on a Sunday morning, my friends and I pile into the car, grab Kan Jam, a bunch of beer, our bathing suits, sunscreen and head on our way. We park in a lot across from the beach and I notice other groups of people in the parking lot tailgating. I wasn’t aware there was a GAME at the beach so after inquiring I was told you aren’t allowed to bring any alcoholic beverages to Mickey Rats because the establishment is a big bar and they serve alcohol there. Ugh. I understand the concept, but I wasn’t about shotgunning and pounding beers right before headed to the beach. We did our thing, and headed in. There is a decent amount of security guards scattered throughout the place. You must show them your ID upon entering. I liked this because I didn’t need to worry about young children running around but also a shame that I couldn’t come here one afternoon to hang with my sister who isn’t of age. We found a spot on the beach, if you could call it that. I mean it’s a lake, not an ocean, completely different. The sand was rocky and sticky, sharp things here and there. I wasn’t too keen about taking my sandals off because I didn’t want to get a sharp piece of wood through my foot. Bring a blanket, not a sheet. The sheet is not thick enough to smooth out the rough sand. People had their boats out by the water which was fun, you know, if you were the one with the boat. We played Kan Jam for hours, threw the football around and had a grand old time. There were a few volleyball courts so we went over to some guys playing and asked if we could be next on the court, no problem they said, they even let us borrow their volleyball. Such nice people in the Buffalo area, I love it. We played for hours, I got in trouble and yelled at by security for having a glass corona bottle on the court, OOPS. Guess that one accidentally found its way into my purse. The bar area was hectic. Lots of people, lots of different bars, lots of fun. Overall I thought it was a great way to spend the day, this«beach» will have to do!

I’m fairly positive this place has the most disgusting bathrooms that I’ve ever seen in any bar.

Drinks are on the pricey side considering the area, food is not that good, basically it is a snack bar. Other than that decent scene would pretty much sum up the reviewer.

This place reminded me of The Jersey Shore. This isn’t meant to be a judgement of the place either way, but if this your scene you would like it. Loud music, everyone half-naked, and slightly expensive drinks. Bartenders were friendly and the wait wasn’t long. The food is cheap and of appropriate quality. You get what you pay for though. It’s nice to have the beach there, but it is Lake Erie. There’s almost nowhere to sit outside on a weekend during the summer. And if you go to the beach, remember to bring a blanket and an umbrella. I’m giving this a solid three stars because while it wasn’t the worst place, there was nothing special about it either. This is most definitely not my scene, but if you’re looking to show off after you get your swell on at the gym, this is your place.
