The food was delicious. We had the lobster bisque, the evening specials of crab stuffed grouper and top sirloin with lobster. The asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes were great. The pinot noir went well. To top it off, homemade red cake cheesecake that was perfect and most sinful. Our server was prompt, helpful, and friendly. With a delicious variety on the menu, and great price point, we highly recommend it for a nice evening out.

I had possibly the worst service I’ve ever experienced at this restaurant. I’ve heard good things about the Hatchery’s food, but I never had a chance to try it due to the utter incompetence of our waitress and her manager. Night began with waiting for 15 minutes at our table before someone not our waitress came and took our drink order, because our waitress was apparently too busy. Same not-our-waitress person delivered our drinks, one of which was a half-empty IPA because the keg blew. They comped the half-empty beer, but the restaurant should’ve gotten a new order instead of serving stale beer from the bottom of the keg. But this was small potatoes compared to the relentless incompetence we experienced when our waitress finally emerged. Our waitress, clearly undertrained(management’s fault), first forgot to read us the specials, brusquely taking our order before moving onto her other nearby table openly upset with the Hatchery’s laughable service. During this time, we couldn’t help but notice the table next to us, served by someone else, had been given the specials, had ordered and received(full) drinks, and had received bread, all of which our waitress neglected to deliver. Our waitress returned 20 minutes later with a potato soup instead of the French onion ordered by someone in my party, for which she gave a pointless excuse and promptly left to take it back to the kitchen. Since our waitress had finally made her presence known again, we ordered a new beer, because the stale IPA was gone. We also asked if we could get bread, the existence of which seemed to mystify our waitress, who clearly wasn’t informed or didn’t care that bread was to be given to each table. At this point our table was frustrated but willing to stick it out. Flash forward to another 20 minutes later, when our waitress appears sans beer and bread but with mushrooms we ordered about an hour earlier. As she sets the mushrooms down, she spills a glass on our table, breaking it and letting water spill down the table and drip on us. At this point we just left. I give the hatchery some credit for not fighting us when we decided to cancel everything and leave, as if they were aware of their inability to offer even the most basic of services to its customers. Despite this, it’s safe to say that I will never be back unless something major changes, and I will heavily disparage this poorly run, incompetent, incomprehensibly mismanaged restaurant to anyone willing to listen.

Haven’t been in a couple of years. Group of three. 1. Ordered stuffed mushrooms. As an appetizer. Other two had salad. Salad came, no mushrooms until after dinner came out. Kitchen forgot to make. Then they had goat cheese on them which we love, but they were inedible. Very strong cheese. Two people ordered stuffed grouper. The fish was sliced paper thin. Severly overcooked, maybe freezer burnt. Stuffing bad. One person ordered a potatoe that came out later. We complained to our waitress, which was very nice, she apologized and that was that. Not that we wanted anything. But maybe at least tell the kitchen. There were very few people eating. I would not return again. Used to be the place to go.

My wife and I decided to try eating here tonight. I am glad we did! We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. The lobster bisque was great! The perch was excellent and our waitress was fantastic. We will definitely be frequenting this place.

What a little gem! Cute neighborhood restaurant. We found The Hatchery on Unilocal while driving home from Bowling Green, OH on Good Friday with my son. Service was exceptional! Soup of the day was tasty. We were a little disappointed with the rather bland entrees(NY Strip for my son and Seafood Pasta for me). The Carmel Cheesecake was DIVINE!!! We were told a local lady comes in daily to make the cheesecake from scratch — oh my Lord, never have we eaten such amazing cheesecake. Compliments to the cheesecake lady! The delicious cheesecake totally made up for the bland entrees. My advice for anyone… get the cheesecake!!!

Have heard great things since the new owners took over. I ordered carry out and was delighted with my roasted goat cheese salad and lack & blue tuna. Reminiscent of the glory days of this restaurant. Everything was prepared and presented perfectly. It was delicious and reasonably priced. One of my new local favorites.

Great local restaurant. I travel extensively and always look for local restaurants. Nice linen cloth table tops. But a price bargain. My steak was cooked perfect and the grilled asparagus was excellent . I will return next time I am close.

Food was very good and the service was excellent. I understand from brief conversation that the new owners are in the process of upgrading and putting a facelift on the place. They are doing a wonderful job thus far. Very nice selection of beer and wine. My wife’s walleye was fantastic as was her pecan pumpkin pie. My filet was done to my liking and had very good flavor. When we find ourselves in the area again we would certainly dine here again.

The meal was great, compliments to the Chef! Service was excellent. We were there with a party of 10 on a Friday night and they brought everything out timely too. Ambiance is not as nice as you would expect from white-tablecloth place; it’s very plain inside, but the food and service make up for it!

Every time we go to the Hatchery I am amazed by the value you get for the money. The shrimp cocktail was great, as were the garlic green beans and the steakhouse style baked potato. I had the pan fried perch which is the best any where and my lovely wife had the filet which was bigger than expected and very tasty. Always a great meal. We have also had two special occasion group dinners that were very good. When in the area stop on in for a great meal.

Worth the drive to Angola, IN. This great little restaurant offers great food and service. We just had dinner there and are already planning to come back. I would recommend the beef-vegetable soup and either the duck or perch for the entrée. We were to full for desert so I cannot comment on those. Great draft beer selection as well. I don’t give 5 stars to often, but here it is deserved.

I was expecting food to be just OK when I came to visit Angola, Indiana. I was«forced» to this place for a meeting at the Potawatomi Inn. After 3 days, I am now a fan of Angola! Maybe the places are not fancy as some in big cities but the food was fabulous. Because of the name, I ordered the Filet Mignon. It was sooooo good, prepared perfectly like I like it… medium rare and it melted in my mouth. We started with calamari and stuffed mushrooms. Their rolls were fluffy and sweet. I had a great experience but some of my friends didn’t. Their medium-well(yeah, yeah… save your comments about how filet mignong should not be ordered medium well for another review) was served medium-rare. I think they just mis-understood.

What a great little gem on the far northeastern reaches of Indiana. The restaurant has good food, excellent service and a wonderful patio for outdoor dining. If you find yourself nearby make sure to stop in for a good meal.
