If you want to spend hours looking for someone who knows something about your project, save yourself some time and head on over to Home Depot. The staff are friendly but don’t have a clue where things are or able to offer any helpful advice.

Great for getting home improvement supplies. We stopped in to get some shelves for our garage and were able to find things easily with their clearly marked isles. Staff was nice and very helpful. The store was well kept and clean. Very organized and well laid out. Supplies were a bit pricy but we wanted quality products. Overall great place for building and home improvement supplies.

Home Depot and Menards in my opinion are pretty interchangeable stores. Other than their interior décor, the products and staff are nearly the same. There are definitely products you may only find in one store or the other, but nothing that is significant enough to mention. This is only applies if you are looking for a specific item. The Home Depot and Menards in Des Moines and Ankeny are right next to each other, so if you are not satisfied with one you can go to the other with no hassle. For those who do not know, these stores sell products and services related to home improvement. I have never had any issues with this location

Menards is a home improvement store chain that is centered in the Midwest. They compete with both the Home Depot and Lowe’s and in many ways do it better. Their stores are huge, their selection is vast, and I have usually found store staff to be friendly and helpful. And I’m usually in town when they have their 15% off paper bag sale. A few weeks ago, I stopped by on my way to Des Moines and just wandered around for a half hour or so. I have been at this Menards a few times before and sort of knew my way around. I did see a nice tool box but decided it wouldn’t fit well into my return packing plans. But I did walk out couple of cheap solar powered walking path lights that did.
