Now this has been the second or third visit. I think I’m hooked as I crave a Philly cheese steak every now and then. They cook it in front of you. Offer onion. Mushrooms, and peppers to be grilled I always choose onion and mushroom only. I like to add the classic bold steak sause and the mushroom dip you can put in a little cup from the dressing bar. If you want to try something new check out this place. It’s fast and easy. No free WiFi not that any free WiFi ever works.

I hit a slow time of the day with my hubby. Wasn’t feeling super hungry. I asked really sweetly if I could have kids meal and they let me. Awesome in my book. Chicken fingers yum

This is the best location. The food is never over done, the bread is always soft and the staff is friendly. I’ve had a philly and fries and it’s always good. The meat is never dried out like it’s been cooked to long, the fries are always good because they make them fresh to order. This is the best location.

If you’re a fan of rice bowls or cheesesteak this could be your kind of place. I am a big fan of Chipotle so it took a little convincing to get me to come here. It was a pleasant surprise. I like the chicken bowl and was more than thrilled when they filled the bowl without any prompting from me. No need to ask for extra anything and unlike the sometimes grisly chunks I get at other places, the chicken steals the show here. Perfect, albeit a little dry, white hunks of seasoned goodness. I don’t know if it’s just still too unknown but I actually appreciate that it’s not crowded, the food is fresh and cooked(or warmed,) as you order. The staff is friendly and quick but does lack a little personality. While my allegiance still remains with Chipotle, this is not a bad substitute. Their prices are a little high but their portions are generous. Maybe not my first pick but it is nice to have options.

Pepperjax Grill is a chain, and chains normally aren’t my first choice of restaurant, but it’s done really well. They’re known for their Philly’s but they have burritos, bowls and lots of sides and sauces. They make their own sauces and have a special«signature sides» bar available. They grill up your meat with veggies if you like and if you ask for it done«fireball style» they’ll even throw in a little bit of jalapeño juice to give it a little kick! Give them a try!

Love the food! The rice bowls are dank as well as the steak philly + queso… MMMMMMMM! Service here is more overbearing and borderline rude unlike the Iowa City location. Lots of seating. Tons of unique condiments. Just tell the employees to take it down a notch with the annoying comments. The point of preparing food this style is that people are able to customize according to individual preference… so stop with commenting on my choices! Asked for fries after my bf did with his and the man behind the counter said«Are you sure?» UHHH… way to upsell the food buddy… not

Get a chicken rice bowl, you won’t be disappointed. The meat is juicy and delicious. I love the fast prep without the fast food taste.

I didnt know what PepperJax was until someone told me they had awesome philly cheesesteaks. Now, I have never had an authentic philly cheesesteak from Philadelphia, but the ones they make here are pretty amazing. Their menu consists just the philly with different meats or queso add on. They also have burritos, taco bowls, and salads. Everything is made in front of you so you know they do it right and fresh. I also got their fries, which are made to order and tasty! The staff is young and friendly here. I will definitely return to see how they other items taste!

Nice to see something a little different in the area. The Philly cheesesteak sandwich was very good, although I wish there was a little more meat. Not greasy at all like some Philly’s you find at other restaurants(not that I don’t mind a little grease). I actually liked the steak burrito better(I’m usually partial to less bread) because you can add other fillings/sauces to it. Reasonably priced. Will definitely go back.

Awesome place! Was planning to take the kids to Smashburger only to find its no longer here. Gave it a chance and loved it. Kids loved the chicken and rice bowls, my wife had the steak Philly, and I had a steak rice bowl. Food was great and price was very reasonable. Will definitely come again when we are in town!

Very limited menu. The choices are essentially cheesesteak or cheesesteak. I will not be returning.

Very glad that a business filled in the old smash burger space. We need more restaurants here in Ankeny. Lets talk about the food. Their cheese steaks are great although they trend to the salty side of the palate. If you don’t like salt ask them to go light on the seasoning. They grill the steaks in front of you and ask if you want onions and peppers mixed in, they will also add jalapeño juice if you want a little kick(its great with the jalapeño juice). Then they place three slices of cheese on top and flip the steak into a bun. Very good, they also have a bunch of sauces to choose from(mushroom gravy, cajun, and some other ones I can’t remember). The fries are meh, not worth the coin. Here is why they go from a four star down to a three star: 1. They have chicken on their menu, DONOT order it. When it hits the grill it is so white and processed it looks like a piece of wonderbread on the griddle. It has the texture of compressed sawdust. Yuk. I have a hard time trusting an establishments standards when they server soylent chicken to the general public. 2. The place has a kinda soup nazi feel(if you have seen the Seinfeld episode). You go to the counter tell them what you want, then they start yelling down the line, its honestly kinda stressful. I wish they had just stuck to the cheesesteaks. The chicken is seriously freaky.
