I called and schedule an appoint as a new client! I am sorry I didn’t take a picture the day of my appointment! It was stunning! Peter sat with me before, talked and listened to me about my lifestyle. He made some strong recommendations about getting my hair healthier and the next steps for future appointments. The hair cut is exactly what I wanted, can’t wait for my next appointment for color!
Besides the great do — I had fun, great atmosphere and energy !!

Peter is great, he took a lot of time to talk about what I wanted and what would work. It was my first time there and Peter did a wonderful job on my haircut! It’s perfect. Going back for highlights next week!

I’ve been going to Peter for color/​cut «SHORT cut» that is. He is the best!!! Moving from L. A & finding an excellent hair stylist was very difficult. But Peter is by far the BEST!

I am extremely protective of my hair and very particular about who cuts it. I got a recommendation for Peter from a friend with similar hair, and I haven’t looked back.
I have only ever seen Peter for a haircut, and I have no complaints. He knows hair, he can read people and give you a cut that is flattering and matches your personality. The atmosphere of the salon is comfortable and laid back. I highly recommend this place!

I found this salon only by ogling and then finally asking someone I knew who did her (BEAUTIFUL) hair — seriously, her color is gorgeous. I knew that I needed to try this place and I was happy that I did.
I would recommend calling in advance because they are very popular and book up fast. Also if you want multiple services, to be sure to leave yourself enough time as you are scheduled with different hair specialists (one person for cuts, another for colors, etc). I love this approach because you get really specialized services, however, you may end up waiting 20 minutes between your color appt and your cut appt (I think that may just mean the colorist was super fast, so that’s not a complaint at all) so even if it always takes 2.5 hours for a color/​cut, make sure you go by your actual appointment times when figuring out when to tell the babysitter you will be back! It’s worth it — don’t worry at all. I was there a little over three hours, which seemed like a long time, but it was just a different way of scheduling. I am going back in two weeks and I am very excited :)
They also sell Pureology which is my absolute favorite. If nothing else, go there to buy your products!!! And lots of parking available — one of the reasons I was looking for a non-​downtown salon. This location is perfect and parking is ample. So happy :)

Trisa was wonderful. My hairstyle lasted for days! And my husband said I looked fancy… Totally worth it! Minus one star for the person at the desk. Must have caught her on a bad day.

I found this place when I went looking for somewhere for color correction and making a few phone calls to local salons after I had a bit of a mishap. Found Gary, he not only fixed it, my hair color has never looked better. Peter cuts. Seriously, best cut ever. That was 2 years ago. Will NOT let anyone else EVER touch my hair. Very professional group of folks. So lucky to have found them!

Amazing! Peter is a fantastic stylist. I went in wanting a new do and went with what Peter suggested. Love it! My hair has never looked better. I’ve received tons of compliments and have already scheduled my next appointment. The rest of the staff is friendly and knowledgable, and the prices seem right on target. Fabulous salon!

Let me start by saying I have never written a review, negative or positive about any place I have found on Unilocal– even though I thought I should have at times. I am writing to say that Unilocal helped me find an AWESOME salon and I feel like I should pass along the favor.
I lost my hairdresser (Lizzie was terrific!), and have been struggling to find a new place to call home. I tried Gina Agosta in Novi, Salon Vox (twice), Ulta (twice), Peaches in Canton, Tricho (aweful!), and even Campus Barber (twice) –after it got great reviews. Each place (w/​the exception of Tricho), has something good to be said about them, but I just couldn’t seem to find the person (s) that could create the look and color I was hoping to achieve.
I have very thick, naturally wavy hair and being in the aviation business, often have to go long stretches w/​o being able to do much with it. I was hoping for a cut that would look good whether I let it air dry or blew it out, curled it, or straightened it. Leaving the salon it looked amazing… but the key is a cut that looks good when YOU do it. I am NOT talented w/​hair and yet I have received so many compliments about both my hair cut and color since my appointment last week. Both Gary and Peter are so talented!!!
The only downfall was mess up w/​scheduling the 2 different appointments, however, the salon accomodated me quickly and that is what is important.

I lived in Boston for three years and would always wait until I came home to MI to get a haircut from Peter — HE IS THAT GOOD!
**I LOVE THIS SALON and am disheartened by the poor review from 10/​16/​2010 on this page… Please take a minute and click on the «filtered reviews» section (I hate that Unilocal does this), to see the amazing compliments Peter has received from his clients.
He is an artist and I love the look and atmosphere of this salon. It’s a bit off the beaten path — but aren’t the best things in life found there? ;)

This was such a disappointing experience, but I take partial blame.
First of all, beware of the strip mall the salon is located in and don’t let that scare you. If I hadn’t known it was in a run-​down strip mall, I might have turned around but the salon is quite nice inside.
I had my hair cut by Stacy, a new hairdresser who has been there since spring 2010. I was apprehensive to get my hair cut in Ann Arbor at all, since I love my old salon in San Francisco, but I was short on time and decided to check it out.
I take responsibility for two main things:
1. I am not decisive. I don’t really know what I want and I go to a salon where I hope I can trust my stylist to do what is going to look best on me. The generic conversation of «light layers» sounds fine to someone like me who doesn’t really know what will look best. So, shame on me.
2. Some new stylists are amazing, but there is something to be said for experience, and I should have requested a stylist with more experience.
My haircut wasn’t horrific by any means. I left the salon feeling as though it was layered more than I had wanted — and while she was cutting it I said at one point that it was layered enough, and she told me that she had to finish it. Overall, when someone else styles your hair it usually doesn’t look so bad — until you have to do it yourself.
It wasn’t until I got home that I took a closer look. I pulled my hair back and realized that layers on one side were almost an inch shorter than the other. I remembered that she hadn’t compared the length of the two sides, which I should have noticed and pointed out. Again, shame on me. Then again, I don’t tell my auto mechanic what he is missing when he fixes my car.
I also noticed that the layers are very chunky — so chunky that I committed the ultimate sin of taking a scissors and trying to fix them myself… which I did.
The haircut also took a long time. She was 10 minutes late to begin and I was finished an hour and half after I arrived. That is too long for a haircut.
So where do I go from here?
1. My hair will grow so I am not going to freak out — and it is only hair, but I do notice it and think about it every time I look in the mirror, which is annoying.
2. I don’t want to go see a better stylist to have someone fix it because I don’t want it any shorter and I don’t want these layers cut any more.
3. I now know better and will go someone I trust next time.
To the credit of the salon. Peter James was there cutting someone’s hair who had flown in from out of state, and everyone there said that they only let Peter cut their hair (including my stylist)…so maybe I just chose the wrong stylist.
