Eh. It’s nothing special and kind of pricy, but same prices as all the other University of Michigan cafes. Students are always going to need coffee in the morning, so Beanster’s is convenient. Their coffee isn’t great, nor is the food. The employees aren’t happy. Giving three stars is rather generous, but I am biased, seeing that I start most of my days/mornings here. I would only recommend coming here if you have to. It’s less busy than Mujo’s or Ugo’s, so that’s a plus.

Ehh… the employees were nice, but this place had been open for a couple of hours, but nothing was set up.(Granted, no other students were there at the time because there was too much other stuff going on around campus, e.g. Hash Bash.) I just ordered a medium coffee @$ 1.85 and was excited about the crème brûlée fair trade organic brew… but it came out kind of lukewarm??? And the half & half wasn’t out(or any kind of milk), so I had to ask for it. And there were no lids to be seen. There was some seating and university computers around, but I had trouble finding a power outlet… so I just left and did work in the Commons Corner.

This place was horrific. As others have noted, the food tastes plain weird and not fresh at all. The salad in my sandwich was a weird color, the sundried tomato aioli tasted like shoes… I was pretty appalled. I even tried to improve the sandwich by putting it in the panini grill they provide, to no avail. The girl working there was also on her phone half the time.

I usually like Beansters — they have good variety in a place where there aren’t that many options to sit down and have a bite. But this time, it was very different. I ordered the Kim’s Caprese sandwich which was great! It’s a must try even if you’re not vegetarian(always grill it well!). However, my friend who got herself a salad saw that the cucumber in it had turned to mush and the salad itself wasn’t looking too fresh. She returned the box to get another one which actually had fungus growing in it. Eeeew. They finally gave her a third box from inside the store(and not the display) which was the freshest of the lot. And it wasn’t like they even offered to compensate her for the first two boxes. My suggestion would be, if possible, to not keep the old salad boxes till the last date stamped on them. I hope this never happens again.

Look no farther than Beanster’s in Pierpont for your daily caffeine fix! It’s in a super convenient location(right by the MBus stops) and while I initially balked at pumping my coffee out of canisters, it’s better than no coffee at all. The food is hit or miss. I thought the Buffalo Chicken wrap just tasted weird. Their other sandwiches are fine, but BESURE to heat them up before consumption! There’s a panini grill right next to the utensils so there’s no excuse not to. I’d recommend the fruit and nut wrap, which is quite tasty — it’s stuffed with apples, strawberries, peanut butter, granola, and cream cheese. Great as an on-the-go breakfast or just as a snack!
