Good place to stop while on the road. The wife had Southern Fried Steak & Eggs and I had build your own breakfast. Very good food!!! Would stop in if I ever come by this way again.

The food was excellent and the waitress was as sweet as can be. Oh, and it was CLEAN! I’m not giving it 5 stars because IMO that should be for gourmet meals.

When I first moved to Michigan I ate there two times. The food is excellent! Try the chocolate pie… it’s worth the drive.

Excellent Managment. Surprising how good the food was after it came out. Seemed like the owner cared about his employees. Must try

Lil Brittany was so nice to us. My son in I are new to Scio by way of Chicago and we dine often so it was nice to be well receive and taken care of. It was our time at a Big Boy and my son loved it!

I became familiar with the Big Boy restaurant from an old Murphy Brown episode ‘Burger, She Wrote’ in which Candice Bergen’s character purchases the iconic«Meaty Boy» statue from her favorite, soon-to-be closed down, fast-food restaurant. Before she has a chance to enjoy her new purchase, the statue is stolen from outside the restaurant. Suspecting her one of her co-workers to be the perpertrator, she vows to find her precious statue. She never does find«Meaty Boy» but the audience is led to believe that the perpetrator is none other than President Clinton and the last scene is of a Clinton-like character sitting back, eating a «Meaty Boy» burger, and whistling the«Meaty Boy» jingle as he admires his statue. I don’t know why but that episode just stuck with me and I’ve always wanted to go to a Big Boy restaurant. Growing up on the East Coast and having little reason to go to the Midwest, I’ve never had an opportunity until a recent trip to Chicago. Akin to a Friendly’s or a Denny’s, BF and I ordered our usual«diner» fare. Club sandwich for him and burger for me. The Triple-Decker Turkey Club sandwich was solid in every way– nicely toasted sourdough bread, moist turkey breast, crispy bacon and fresh slices of tomato and lettuce with a smear of mayonnaise. Instead of fries, BF opted for chicken noodle soup. The sandwich was huge and BF couldn’t even finish it. My Classic Big Boy burger and side of onion rings was just as big but I managed just fine. ;) The burger consists of two beef patties and a 3-layer sesame seed bun with shredded lettuce, American cheese and the famous Big Boy special sauce which is similar to thousand island dressing. I would compare it to a McDonald’s Big Mac but better! The meat has a better texture and a beefier flavor and the special sauce as a little more zing. The onion rings were real slices of sweet onion with a cormeal-type crust. Big Boy is a solid casual dining restaurant chain. If there was one closer to home, I can def see myself becoming a frequent diner. As it stands, I would not hesitate to visit one in the future and recommend giving it a try!

Oh no! What happened to the Big Boy!!! Either my taste buds have changed, or my Big Boy has steadily declined. What has replaced a fresh salad bar is mostly packaged foods and overcooked sides. The soups which used to attract us, are now old and stale. We were there a few weeks ago, and my family and I decided we won’t be returning. And it’s just because the food quality has finally crossed that threshold of «not worth the money». However, on the bright side, we got great services from the servers, very efficient, kind and helpful. But man… something happened to my Big Boy! So Sad!

Oh Big Boy — how I wanted to like you but it’s just not meant to be. Walking in, it looked promising. Newer décor, friendly greeting and nice waitress. We quickly discovered that our young waitress isn’t meant for food service. She is sooooo sssslllowwww and no drink refills. We added soup and salad bar to our orders. I asked someone to refill the cottage cheese(there was only one other table in the place) and the waitresses argued over who was going to fill it. Someone filled it and made a mess. She didn’t bother to clean up the mess she made, nor the mess that they call a salad bar. I call shinanigans on the sign out front. I lobbied to go to Big Boy for dinner since the sign said fresh veggies on the bar, but that was a bold faced lie. Brown iceberg lettuce, freezer burned tomatoes, tranlucent mushrooms and shredded cheese ARENOTFRESH veggies. Advice to the waitresses: When the place is empty, those of us eating dinner can hear everything you say. The gossip, the arguing, the over zealoused laughing and general screwing around, while my husband and I are wishing we had more to drink. Good job! {— Sarcasm The ladies bathroom is a biohazard dump. If they argue over filling the salad bar, I can only imagine the difficulty the manager must have getting someone to clean the restroom. Our food was fine. I ordered the fried shrimp. Actually tasted good, good temp and the price was cheap. My husband had their Best Burger and he liked it but didn’t care for how messy it was. Summary — Don’t use the bathroom, don’t go thirsty, don’t get the salad/soup bar, order straight from the menu, and you will get a good meal and maybe some entertainment from the arguing/gossiping waitresses.

I’ve been to this Big Boy a few times. I don’t expect anything fantastic, it is a chain anyway. My boyfriend and I were starving and we wanted a quick, clean, cheap place to eat. Keep in mind it was almost 8pm on a Monday. We arrived and there was only one family inside and about 5 or 6 waitresses. By the time we ordered a few other families had been seated and given their drinks. Also keep in mind for about 5 tables there was ONE waitress serving. The other waitresses were sitting in a booth chatting away. I felt bad for this poor girl who had to do everything. I ordered the chicken parmigiana(with meat sauce) and my boyfriend ordered the corned beef reuben with fries. Mine came with a salad, and I sure hope that salad isn’t over a dollar. It was cheap iceberg lettuce that came in HUGE chunks, at least the croutons were good. When our entrees arrived they actually looked really good. The chicken parmigiana was a good size with lots of sauce and cheese. My boyfriends rueben was big with plenty of fries. Now since I said I was starving, and I really wanted dessert. I had been eying the cookie sunday. I would come back here just for that! The cookie was enormous! On top were two large scoops of vanilla ice cream and tons of sauce sauce. The cookie was soft and warm, the ice cream was smooth, and the chocolate sauce was rich. This cookie sunday was my favorite part of the entire meal and only $ 1.99!!! I say GO for the cookie sunday!

This Big Boy is pretty good, as Big Boys go. I only ever go for lunch, and that’s infrequent — but it’s clean, a Slim Jim tastes like a Slim Jim… can’t really complain or rave. They had a burger bar for a while(I think all Big Boys did), and I did enjoy that. Probably because chili fries were included, and I can eat a heckuva lot of chili fries.
