Possibly the least pretentious restaurant in Ann Arbor, at least compared to any within a stone’s throw of downtown, especially any at which you can order adult beverages. The selection of those is good, with a few craft beers available on draft and many in bottles. There are some good whiskeys behind the bar too. We’ve been there a dozen or so times over the last ten years and almost always come away happy. Even though we’re not vegetarians, we often order the vegetarian sloppy joe, which is basically a spicy lentil stew served over cornbread. Burgers are good, as is the«salmwich» and the reuben. I was less happy with a salmon salad I ordered a couple years ago-the fish was a bit rank and the vegetables were ready to be retired to compost. On our last visit, I very much enjoyed the shrimp-chicken caesar I ordered. Crispy lettuce, a wonderfully tangy dressing, and loaded with shrimp, to the point where the chicken was almost lost. My wife got the reuben, one of our old standbys, and liked it even though the slice of bread on the bottom had gotten a bit mushy – maybe the kitchen plated it before they started my salad. You can usually expect a short wait for a table around prime dinner hours, though we’ve never waited more than twenty minutes, and last Friday it was closer to five. Once you’re seated you can count on quick, efficient service. Tucked away in bottoms of the Huron river, along the railroad tracks, this literally is the proverbial«hidden gem.»

Great food and great service. This place is always busy and it’s easy to understand why. While they are known for great burgers, it’s easy to see that Casey’s takes pride in all their food offerings. Our waiter was friendly and upbeat and made several dinner suggestions, which I really liked. I had a wonderful potato clam chowder and split a Casey’s Favorite(pastrami & smoked turkey with swiss, cole slaw & russian dressing, grilled on rye) with my dining companion. Delicious! Highly recommend!

This is my favorite sandwich place in town. ‘Casey’s Favorite’ is my favorite too… I had never liked rye bread before I had this. The meat, the bread and everything in the sandwich tastes really fresh and high quality. With the luscious fresh french fries and the wide array of condiments, its a foodie’s delight. The place also has a wide selection of beers and an old-world charm to it. Bottom line: The sandwich was so effing awesome, it got me to downgrade Zingerman’s rating by a star ;)

Casey’s Tavern is old school burger-town at its best in A-Squared. Once again, Casey’s came through with exactly what you want and expect in a popular local tavern… a great cheeseburger, perfect steak fries and an icy cold IPA in a fun and casual atmosphere. This Saturday, more than a few Spartan fans were lunching here in this U of M-themed pub before going to the Crisler Center for today’s interstate match-up on the hard court between Sparty and the Wolverines. Casey’s still owns the Deuce…5 stars.

One of the best pubs in town for a beer & burger, especially while waiting for the train across the street. The staff is very friendly and very attentive to your order. The bar area has plenty of seats and the bartenders are quick to make sure your glass is always full. The pub is a little bit outside of of all the typical businesses in the restaurant district but it’s worth the trip.

Had lunch here today with friends. Service was excellent. Sadly the same could not be said for the food. Will not be going back.

Went here for a work lunch at the recommendation of the boss. What a solid burger joint. Two words — Miami Rolls. That’s right, none of that kaiser bs, all their burgers are on perfectly fresh Miami rolls and man what a difference that makes. Very above average burger and a good tap list to boot. I would definitely recommend this place for a quick, relatively inexpensive meal in the ann arbor area.

Being a stone’s throw away from Casey’s we walked here Saturday night for dinner in the midst of the Michigan game. Needless to say, they were very busy and we expected to wait for a table for three people. Hostess(who was very nice) put our name down and not 5 min later we got a table, sweet! Our waitress was slow and rarely came to our table to ask if we needed anything or to ask how our meal was. She was very soft spoken and when my boyfriend’s mother was trying to figure out alternatives to french fries with her sandwich she never piped in to say what else she could have. The only input she had was that a substitute for veggies is $ 2 extra. I ordered a burger, supposedly the hot item, with smoked mozzarella, bacon and jalapeño chutney. I ordered it medium, and it was a bit under-cooked. I like a little pink, but not the amount I got. Also, the burger meat tasted a little old and lacked seasoning. Add some salt to your burger please, as the toppings added very little flavor. I expected the jalapeño chutney to be spicy, but it was more tomato based and underwhelming. Fries were great but man are they skimpy with them. Overall, I like coming here for beer, always have, but their food and service can be a hit or miss.

Oh yea, that’s what I’m talking about. Things I’ve loved. –Onion Rings. –Meat loaf on grilled sourdough with jalapeño chutney, sauteed onions, tillamook cheddar, and mayo. — Split pea with ham soup in a mug. They say ‘served in a big 14oz’ mug. It sounds intimidating, it’s as much soup as a standard bowl. This is not a bad thing at all. I was hesitant to order given the way the waitress sold it but it was the perfect amount for a soup appetizer. I didn’t want to ruin my appetite as I had a sammich on the way!

So delightful. Great veggie burger(best in town?) with many toppings options(guac and pepper jack!), and a couple other great veg meals(and very good actual burgers, I’m told). I would get the gazpacho(summer) or chili(winter). I would NOT get the salads. The onion rings are giant and look like doughnuts. Good wine, sometimes there’s pie, and the drinks run pretty stiff. But the best thing about this place is the atmosphere — if you go for weekday lunch, it’s comfy and chill, and if you go on a Friday night it’s bustling and cozy(packed).

My favorite quick dinner place. People are friendly, good food(not healthy though). I will avoid Friday night if you don’t like to wait to be seated.

I love Caseys. So much is so good. I love the fish and chips, the turkey reuben and the cheeseburger. The fries are always perfect for a little added salt and ketchup to dip. Hubby loves their french dip and almost always orders it. He says the beef is lean and the horseradish just the right amount for a perfect sandwich. We love the beers on hand, our current favorite is the Saugatuck ESB. We go often enough the staff recognizes us. We love to go on a weekend afternoon and watch the Tigers or Lions play while eating a meal. Casey’s is the best. Oh, just as an fyi, my hubby does not like the mac and cheese. He can be a bit of a snob but he really doesn’t like it.

Casey’s is a break from the monotony and absurdity of life. The atmosphere inside the old saw mill is honest and sincere. There’s no pretense or snobbery here. Casey’s is a place where you can have an honest beer with an honest steak with your sincere friends. This is a place where it feels good to be a regular.

When I was little, my parents would go on ‘dates’ together every Friday night, and I would have a babysitter. All I can remember about those nights is the fact they went to Casey’s Tavern EVERYSINGLE Friday. I mean, all the time, until I was a teenager and I think they overdid it a bit… lol. Now I’m 34 years old and I would have to say it’s probably on my top 5 favorite restaurants. I can’t even count how many times we have eaten here. First off, it’s a fun Ann Arbor Icon, located right across from the train station with its«Cheer’s-esque’ sign welcoming you inside. It is a small little place which you walk up about 10 – 12 steps to get into. If you happen to be driving and parking instead of walking, there is a cute little parking lot in the back that you park in stalls from what the building used to be back in the day. But I must warn you, it’s tight back there and there really is no way to turn around unless you find a spot, so you may have to Austin Powers it and go back and forth 1000 times before you’ve rotated your car, hahaha. You could also opt for parking on the street, which if you can parallel park is probably the best bet. Prepare to wait at least 15 minutes if you are going for dinner, and prepare to be in the way all the time while waiting. There really is no place to wait, they have these wooden bars to set a glass on while you wait, or you can go sit up at the bar. We’ve done it all, but lately, we just stand in the doorway and wait, along with everyone else. To me, just the price to pay for one of my faves. The atmosphere is very cozy, everything is wood, rustic and old. It has a great hometown bar feel. In fact, the owners have owned the bar for years and they are always there, working the bar, as the Host, they do everything. My parents knew them from going so much, and they are all so nice every time we go in. The menu is bar food, the burgers are amazing, that’s what my Dad and Hubs always get, I think I got it once. My go-to, the item I crave and must get my fix of, is the Tuna Sandwich. Oh geez, my mouth is watering as I write this. I always order it the same, grilled, on pumpernickel bread, no cheese with fries. It’s amazing tuna salad, every.single.time! The fries are thick cut, not wedges, ew. They are delicious with ketchup and they compliment the tuna or a burger wonderfully. Burgers and sandwiches always arrive in a basket, not a plate, just adding to the charm. And if you have leftovers, you take your food home in ‘Chinese food boxes’. My hubs and I have tried other appetizers, like the Fried Artichoke Hearts, and those are pretty good too. They come with a mustard/mayo type sauce for dipping and it had a bit of a kick to it. We don’t drink much, so I’m afraid I’m not much help in the Bar department, but from what it looks like there is a large selection of beer options. I did have a drink once, and I think I remember it being very strong. My Dad has always enjoyed their selection of beer. They are not open at all on Sundays so prepare your visit around that. It’s always been a bummer for me, because a Sunday afternoon sandwich sounds wonderful on a summer day. The staff is very friendly and have all been there for a while, they know the menu, the food, everything. Casey’s Tavern is someplace I tell people to try if they want one of a kind, Ann Arbor Spirit places. No one has ever told me they hated it. And now that I’m writing this review I’m going to have to make a visit up there soon… lol

It’s definitely a dive, and I’d probably lean more towards 3.5 stars but since that’s not a choice, here we are. I loved the atmosphere at Casey’s(we came before a Michigan basketball game) and thought the servers were friendly. My burger and beer were good, but maybe not $ 16 worth of a bill good, hence why I’d take off some stars.

Personally I’d lean toward 3 stars, but my fiancée would happily give them 5 so I’m compromising here. Great local spot with pretty great pub fare. They’re not putting out gourmet flavor but they’ve got some serious must-eats. The onion rings, for example. It’s a meal in itself, and not in a bad way. Their barbecue sauce, also, is hit or miss depending on the batch but when its a hit, I feel like I could take a bath in it. Drench myself in it from head to toe then lick it off of myself. I would even invite you to dip it off me with whatever you want and you’d love it. Fish & chips. Their sandwiches. Decent wine selection, given the atmosphere. Quirky-friendly and very efficient service, which I love. Just skip the jambalaya.

What can you say or add to a place like Casey’s Tavern in A2? We had a basic burger with LTO, Bacon and Cheese and the Favorite(say Ruben with pastrami and smoked turkey) both served with Steak Fries. We started with an Onion Ring appetizer, which was more like the size of donuts and enjoyed them, and everything immensely! This was by far one of the best lunches we have ever had. Our waiter, Stephen, was funny, friendy and very helpful, especially for a couple of first timers. I don’t know what these buildings were in the past, but once you step inside, Casey’s transforms into a first class tavern/eatery which gets all 5 stars from me! And… I’ll definitely be back…

I have now been to Casey’s Tavern multiple times, and can feel confident about this review… You keep hearing about the burger… Yeah, yeah… It’s fine, but this review is an Ode to the Meatloaf Sandwich and the other unsung heroes of their menu. Oh! The Meatloaf Sandwich! Two slices of perfectly seasoned meatloaf, grilled, then lovingly stuffed with your choice of toppings from the burger toppings menu. Grilled onions? You got it! Jalapeño relish and mozzarella? Sounds divine! Let your imagination(and tastebuds) run wild! Served on your choice of grilled bread. Amazing! Their version of the french dip is also crave-worthy. Service at the bar is friendly and casual. Prices are VERY reasonable. Only gripe? I wish that they were open on Sundays, so I could enjoy 7 days per week! Insider tip: Parking is difficult. No lot; neighborhood street parking only.

Great little tavern! And I do mean little. There’s not a lot of space in here and it can feel a little clausterphobic, but the food is fantastic! I came today for lunch with friends. We all ended up getting tuna fish sandwiches. I had mine on sourdough, a friend had her’s on white and another freind had hers on wheat. We all thought they were great. Just the right amount of mayo! The steak fries were also very tasty. They have a substantial list of sandwiches, some salads, appetizers, usually a pasta dish, a few fish dishes and another special along with soups! It’s a bar, so they have a really nice selection of beer, wine, and mixed drinks as well as sodas and iced teas! Parking can be a bit of a problem, but this place is great if you are near campus or want to take a break after KerryTown or the Farmers/Artisian market!!!
