While waiting for an appointment, my partner in crime and I decided to enjoy one of the first nice days of the«spring» by taking a short walk. «I think that’s a park over there!» «Oh man, it is!» Who knew that in the middle of big-box-architecture-strip-mall-land there is a hidden oasis of two small lakes and a trail around them? I sure didn’t! If you go toward the back of Glencoe Crossing, near Quiznos, there’s a staircase that leads down to a small trail and that trail leads you to a small lake(pond?) and then to yet another small lake. It was borderline magical with some floating logs and ducks in the water. Only problem is that it is also bordered by a chain-link fence that you can see through and see parking lots and apartment buildings. I’d be curious to see if it seems more intimate and«wild» in the summer when the trees aren’t bare. You can go for 10 minutes just to check it out or you could slowly saunter around the whole perimeter for an hour. If you have time to kill next time you’re in the area, forego the extra-grande non-fat sugar-free caramel chocolate latte at Starbucks and go explore!
