Horse heads everywhere… the type you find on a chess board of course… Knights stands apart from the rest in this college town with the best beef in town. In fact, a little-known secret around town is that many restaurants in the area buy their beef exclusively from the Knight butchery. First and foremost, this is a townie joint… no doubt about it. Drop by any night of the week and you’ll find the same locals sipping their signature extra-strong cocktails and enjoying a patty melt, a New York strip or maybe a Texas cut of their famous Prime Rib. It’s beef, beef, beef at this A-squared institution. I love that this restaurant has no name other than the horse head symbol.- bold and classic at the same time. Any restaurant that can consistently draw waiting lines daily by 5:30 pm for dinner, you know has to have it going on. My wife had the old-school Sauté Burger… a classic third-pound burger w/Swiss and sautéed ‘shrooms and onions. I opted for the Patty Melt which melds Swiss cheese and sautéed onions on grilled Pumpernickel. Both were fabulous complemented with either chips or three different types of fries. Knight’s gets it right with this foodie every time.

The drinks are STIFF and prices well under what they should be. The«old» knights was recommended to us, so my group of coworkers went together. I will mention, one of my coworkers paid in cash for their meal, and my credit card was charged twice– once for my order and again for the amount on my coworkers receipt. We suspect the waiter pocketed the cash and that’s why my card was charged for two separate amounts. My bank quickly reversed the fraudulent charge, so no prob. I know a lot of older folks eat here, I hope this isn’t a common occurrence to unsuspecting people :(Anyway, lets carry on to the review of the food. My steak was cooked perfectly(med well) I upgraded to the wedge salad and it was huge and the BEST wedge salad I’ve ever had. This location has the twice baked potatoes– order it. Super good. I hear the downtown location does not. I am definitely planning on going again, but with a DD so instead of one amazing, loaded drink I can order 2. And I’m definitely paying in cash ONLY from now on.

If the owner didn’t speed around ann arbor in there business car, cutting people off, running red lights and honking uncontrollably. Today, as im walking to my car, he nearly hit me in the parking lot after he sped off from blaring his horn at someone for no reasonable reason.

My husband is from Ann Arbor– he always always talked about how great knights was. Of course after our wedding I coudnt wait to visit Knights! When we got there the place was packed! I mean every seat was full! We were created by the hostess! We only waited a couple of minutes and the. Got seated! The menu at Knights is very traditional, there are also plenty of options! Oh and the servings are huge! I barely could finish my meal! I my husband got a steak which he devoured!!! The food here is great quality and the price is very reasonable!!! Gotta go to Knights if your ever in Michigan!

Few options for vegetarians. Black bean burger is good. They offer bread if you ask, but it looks much better than it tastes. Recommend trying the calamari and the French onion soup. The dessert isn’t made in-house. They’re good at what they do, but can’t really vouch for the«steakhouse» part of this. Who trusted a vegetarian to go to a steakhouse?!

Interesting décor – I’m a huge fan of the 1970s era wood paneling. It’s like walking into a place that hasn’t changed in decades – and that’s good. I ordered a burger, and it was very much what a burger should be – but the drinks, the drinks were so worth it. All of them, strong, and my whiskey on the rocks – at least an 8 ounce pour. I don’t leave alcohol on the table, but this time I made an exception: I was driving. Certainly well worth visiting.

We had dinner here last night and the food was very good and the prices really are very reasonable. My only complaint was that the noise level was a bit high, enough we had to speak loudly to hear one another, which probably added to the noise level overall. If you’re looking for a good steak and good food overall at a reasonable price, this is definitely a good place to go.

Knights makes drinks the way I make them-strong and alcohol flavored! On a was a cloudy, chilly mid-summer day in late August and we craved really good burgers. Knights, which also owns their own meat market(they supply meat to many restaurants in town) is dingy and dark and will remind you of your whiskey-soaked Uncle Bob in the 70’s, but sometimes, that’s exactly what you want! Friendly service, not much of a view(the first time I came, I didn’t even remember there being windows!) but soft, velour seats in the booths that are the kind of fabric that grabs your seat as if to say ‘You ain’t goin’ nowhere, Charley! Now order up a good drink!‘ The soup of the day was beef noodle and though the noodles were spaghetti, the beef was tender and delightful. The broth was deep and red and full of onions and carrots. Salty and delicious. The burgers come on a nice, sturdy brioche bun that doesn’t mash into a busted patty as you eat it. The bacon on the burger was yummy and the burger itself is so good(medium-well) was do delicious you did not want it to end. Next time, the classic French dip.

The family got together at Knight’s Steak House and it was an absolutely wonderful dinner. For appetizers, we got mussels and the escargot. He highly recommend the escargot! Excellent. For dinner, we all got the prime rib. Tasty, tender and simply delicious. For dessert, my pecan pie melted in my mouth. We got there early, but by the time we left, it was BUSY, so go early to avoid the crowd and all those who know.

This is a magnet of a place… a throwback to the 50s and 60s therefore the abundance of 50s and above customers not excluding family with children as well. Definitely a popular place in Ann Arbor. Now… the drinks. if you casually ask for a «gin and tonic» you experience an immediate buzz and mood elevation after its consumption. Discovered later on that they are known for their«stiff» drinks. The service is fantastic, quick and friendly. Always crowded. Their menu varies daily but also includes standard items that are permanent. Try their Alyssia’s salad. People at the bar could be young mothers with children, white haired individuals, there is a spirit of friendship and friendliness even there. My husband and I really like the place.

A townie favorite for years. They’ve expanded to include a downtown location in the old Borders bookstore location but this is the original spot. Good: drinks from the bar are on the strong side, craft beer on tap, burgers and melts are very good. Tons of Michigan football pictures on the wall. Okay: steaks are overdone, meatloaf can be very salty and dry, service can be slow. Also servers don’t make suggestions or tell you much about the specials. Bad: parking is tough on busy nights.

i wanted to check out a local bar in the Ann Arbor area and this place was recommended. It is a nice cozy and welcoming place. I sat at the bar and ordered one of the drink specials, a Dirty Martini. The drink was mixed just right topped off with some tasty blue cheese olives. Have to have those with a dirty. The people are friendly and I struck up a conversation with a variety of people at the bar including the bartender. Great friendly place to have a drink or to grab a bite. Next time I will try some of the food as the menu looked appetizing.

So, I came here for the first time on a Saturday night. It was absolutely packed full of people. The wait was about an hour long. I noticed the décor was very dated. It seemed dusty and could use a good cleaning. While I was waiting, across from me was some kids. The hostess heard them say how hungry they were and she brought them out some bread and butter. I thought that was the cutest, sweetest thing I’ve seen in a while. So, at least their staff is friendly. Now for the food: I ordered the prime rib, along with a baked potato and a salad. I thought it was odd that the baked potato was just that. A baked potato. Nothing done to it. They simply placed a naked baked potato on my plate. It wasn’t even cut open. I think there were other options but no one explained that to me. The salad was nothing special and difficult to eat because it’s basically served on a small slightly curved plate. BUT nothing mattered to me once I got to the prime rib. I swear it was the best prime rib I have ever had! All of a sudden the wait, and the mediocre sides, were fine. I would come back for the prime rib, and that alone.

I’m sticking with«classic» Knights. Even though the hostesses are awful(tonight, at 5:30 pm on a Saturday night, one was texting on her cell while she others talked shit about a coworker), the prime rib was amazing, the drinks are great and our server tonight was lovely and attentive.

This is my husbands favorite restaurant. It provides a lot of meat and liquor at reasonable prices. We have been there several times and have generally had good food and service. The last time we were there, it was a challenging situation from the get go. When I called to make the reservation, they asked me how long I would need the table for. How should I know? Anyway, all seven of us were seated, quickly and our drink orders were taken. The waitress was a sweetheart and given it was PACKED in there, was attentive as possible. We ended up ordering, a rack of ribs, shrimp, blackened pork chop, steak, and three fish dinners. Everything was good except the fish. None of the dishes were done and were sent back. The waitress was apologetic and everything was resolved. The restaurant is an Ann Arbor landmark. My biggest complaint is that it is generally so packed, it is hard to have a conversation.

Back for lunch after a less-than-mediocre steak a couple weeks back. I appreciate the ‘nostalgia’ aspect that some reviewers note, but after this most recent visit, attribute Knight’s endurance to when there simply wasnt any competition to improve against. I wanted something light… salad, soup, etc., so opted for ‘Mary’s Supreme’ based on the waitress’s recommendation as «really good homemade stuff». It’s described as portions of tuna, chicken & ham salad over mixed greens. Yikes! The result served up was pretty unpleasant. First, just look at it. It took me by surprise actually. Taste: bland. Texture: felt like it had been chewed already. Smooth and very fine. Great if I didn’t have any teeth. My colleague’s steak sandwich was tough despite being sliced thin. Mushrooms were definitely not cooked that day. We both lamented our visit.

This place is an institution! A cool locals place where the tourist can also feel at home. I had a great petite filet, nicely charred outside and perfectly pink and juicy on the inside. My husband had an amazing bacon cheeseburger and steak fries. It’s not fancy and it was crowded the night before a Michigan football game. You kinda need to know what you’re getting into… The wedge salad was quite good with great bacon and blue cheese. A nice portion for $! I would definitely come back on the next visit. Good for large groups. Price was a good value.

Love the high quality steak. The drinks are so stiff, I take my chiropractor when I go. Tip: go early or late, because if you go prime time… good luck getting a seat and that includes the bar too!

This was my first time at Knight’s and I do not regret dragging the Bo here. We were both in the mood for burgers and he wanted to go to Red Robin. We love the Red Robin on Carpenter because they are consistent with their burgers and fries, but I convinced him to try something different. I promised him if the burger at Knight’s is not good, then I would take him to Red Robin and pay for his second burger! Of course, he agreed. We got to Knight’s around late lunch time(3:30pm) and there was a handful of patrons at the bar. We seated ourselves at a booth and it took 5 minutes for the only waitress servicing patrons to notice us. We didn’t mind the wait since we saw that she was busy. When she did come to our table, she was very attentive and nice throughout our meal. We both ordered burgers(1 Knight’s Burger-med rare &1 Build-Your-Own-Burger-medium) and the french-dip sandwich to share. The food came within 10 – 15 minutes and it looked and smelled great! I took a bite of my burger and I knew right away that this burger patty is one of the best, if not the best, ground beef I have ever had. The bun, gorgonzola cheese, & mushrooms were good as well, but I wished that there was a bit more salt seasoning. Next time, I will definitely opt for a different cheese since I felt like the gorgonzola cheese was a bit overwhelming after the 3rd bite. The french-dip roast beef sandwich was also very good. I am definitely not an expert on french-dip sandwiches, but I thought it was delicious with the jus. I think it would have been even better with a few slices of melted cheese. The burgers and sandwich came with chips, but I was not a fan of these chips. It was not well-seasoned, or hot, and they gave way too much. I would have preferred a pickle, fries, or onion rings, –anything other than those chips. This was a great first experience. The Bo loved his burger & I didn’t have to buy him that second burger from Red Robin! We will return to try the steaks and other entrees soon!
