This place was like a toddler walking around in his dad’s pants. Pretty adorable, until he takes a header into the hardwood floor and gashes his forehead open. I’ve been to 3 Michelin star restaurants in NYC and LV, and also taco trucks and dives that produced great food in their own unique ways. This place suffers from a serious problem – it produces food that is mediocre at best whatever side of the spectrum we’re talking about, yet it takes itself very seriously. And if a place takes itself very seriously, then I expect it to be serious. Not dropping a couple hundred on a graphic designer, and including the Chef’s name in the tasting menu listing(instead of, say, putting an executive chef: So and so at the bottom of the menu) are not an indication of the food, but red flags. But google and Unilocal seem to agree. Maybe I caught these folks on a bad night. The main – beef on grits – was really, really not up to par, for any kind of place, let alone one that clearly fancies itself the crown jewel of a college town. Other dishes were similarly forgettable at best. What I’m assuming was the GM just kind of loomed over everything near the bar. It seemed like this place is paradoxically over managed and underwhelming food wise, and way too big for it’s britches. The extra star was for the pours and the service, which was mostly above average. Next time, show me a good dive Ann Arbor. Fine dining is not your strong point(and there’s no shame in that).

Great service and delicious new marriages of tastes that I always looking forward to try. We always love coming to Logan. Tonight we came during Ann Arbor’s restaurant week(June 2016) and it was delicious once again. Highlights for me: the sexy chocolate mouse coated in pistachios, delicious peppery arugula fresh green salad with a bright ginger vinaigrette, tasty salmon paired with lentils and an Indian yogurt sauce and some scrumptious salmon dumplings.

I would have given this place 3 stars if were not for the stellar service we received. We came here on Valentines Day after having not made reservations anywhere and hoping to walk in and sit at the bar. Fortunately, they had seats for us at the bar and we were told they were only serving the pre-fixed Valentines Day 5-course meal for $ 70. While this pricing caught me completely off guard, we went along with it. The bartender greeted us very professionally and was quite friendly, making me slightly more comfortable after realizing how much we were going to spend. She told us about the drink specials for the night and we decided to get one. I can’t remember what it was called but it had strawberries and it was pretty good although a bit too sweet. Our five course meal started and we had a creamy soup to begin with, then some fried shallot rings, an intermezzo which was a small scoop of sorbet to cleanse the palette, then some ravioli, some braised short ribs on mashed potatoes with biscuits as the main course, and a strawberry ice cream with chocolate cake as our dessert. Though all food was prepared with care and had lovely presentation, it still seemed not to match up with the price that we paid. The beef entrée was especially disappointing as it seemed particularly average in taste and style. It may just not be my type of food. However, the service and staff there are amazing and I think the chef himself came out to ask us how the food was. Our server/bartender also made sure that we had an enjoyable experience throughout. All in all, a lot of our money definitely went toward the service as opposed to the food but I suppose that’s part of the overall dining experience.

Logan was absolutely amazing. You feel so taken care of from the moment you walk into the door. I ordered the greek lamb while my friend ordered the entrée version of the gnocchi. The chef gave us complimentary potato leek soup — a pleasant surprise, in addition to 4 mini house made biscuits for our meal. Amazing! The food was awesome and each flavor was clearly and careful curated for a wonderful dining experience. Worth the cost for a nice dinner out for a special occasion!

I’ve been in Ann Arbor for about 9 years now and I’ve always had Logan on my list to try. I finally went! And it was great. I was there with one other person. The hostess was very sweet and attentive. At one point in the night I had a question about the bill and our server wasn’t around(busy night). She saw me looking and came over to address my need. Our server was great, too. Attentive but didn’t interrupt, encouraging but not pushy. We ordered the pork dumplings and tempura asparagus to start. The dumplings were tasty, sauce it came with was nice. Maybe would have liked to see a thinner wrapper. The tempura asparagus was not too bad. I’m not a fan of asparagus but their fried asparagus was actually pretty good. I heard there was duck here and I’m a huge fan of duck. I ordered the confit of duck leg. Great plate! The duck was done very well and paired very well with the pickled grapes(?). Good flavor overall. The other diner ordered the walleye, which was super flavorful. The walleye was done well and perfectly seasoned. The lemongrass sauce with which it came was delicious. Got dessert for free because it was my birthday. Crème brûlée with fennel pollen. Interesting but it worked. I’ve had the two separately but never together. Overall, great service and you get high-quality food for the price you pay. Can’t wait to come back!

I went there during restaurant week. It was pretty easy to get a reservation which was nice. I thought that the place was overhyped for a couple of reasons: 1. The inside was pretty crammed and we were seated in the middle of their small space which felt like we were in everyone’s way. The interior design wasn’t my favorite either, but it’s ok. I guess this place is more old fashioned. 2. I love cooking so when I go out to a place I want something unique. I felt that I could have made their food myself. If you like homey food then maybe it will be just for you, but I wasn’t that big of a fan. It was really heavy so my stomach didn’t feel well after. 3. The main reason I gave it 3 stars is their price. If our bill was half the amount then this place would definitely deserve a 4 star. But even with restaurant pricing it was super overpriced for what it was.

My review is solely for the wonderful service that was provided by the staff and the owner of this restaurant! Cute little 20 – 25 seater restaurant, independently owned and bustling with dates and family gossips on a Saturday night. We were a group of six grad students and yuppies, loud and lacking sense of personal space and made a reservation for 8:15 pm on a Saturday night. We reached at 8 and decided to wait it out by ordering wine from the bar. The nice hostess and the owner, along with the sommelier were gracious enough to bring us a bottle of Sangiovese blend at the door, pour it out and make us feel comfortable while waiting for our table. We received a complimentary amuse bouche– tomato soup with fennel leaves and it was divine! Food was probably 3.5 stars, mostly because we ordered vegetarian dishes(cauliflower entrée, in particular, bumped up the ratings!). Dessert was also 3.5 stars(I’ll be thinking about you, chocolate mousse). At the end of our meal, the owner came over to our table, apologized again for the delay and talked to us about his 11 year old establishment! Its very heartwarming to receive such personal service! Especially when we all look like hungry, drunk and obnoxious millennials. If you’re tired to talking to your Ziosk or getting snooty glances, give Logan a try and personalization will be kicked up a notch!

I visited this location for a dinner with my colleagues. The location is perfectly located off Main Street in downtown Ann Arbor. The service was great and everyone was very polite and professional. The wine list was impressive. I had the Walleye and it was delicious. I highly recommend the bread/biscuits to share. I would definitely frequent this place again when I visit again

Went for dinner on Valentine’s evening and discovered it was supposed to be a set menu. We were disappointed at first because we had thoroughly researched the menu and had decided what we were going to order, but after they started serving our disappointment turned to amazement. The food was awesome and what made the experience even better was the excellent and attentive wait staff. Will definitely be returning.

Before I leave this scathing review, I will say that the service at least was great. I also don’t consider myself or my partner picky eaters, and we have always loved the well reviewed restaurants like this one in Ann Arbor. That being said, we went here for Valentine’s Day for the first time, and it was incredibly disappointing and criminally overpriced. They served the«special Valentine’s Day tasting menu» as the only option, which one would expect to be stellar since the guests don’t get to choose their own food. The first course was our least favorite and consisted of a few cheese covered mussels on a mushy bed of bland cabbage, with a flavorless drizzle of a sticky sauce on the side. This was followed by a small plate of onion rings and a cheese ball, which were fine, but didn’t taste any different than what you’d get fresh out of a Burger King deep fryer. The butternut squash ravioli was better, although it sat in a pool of oil and was overpowered by the parmesan crisps on top. My favorite was the truffle mashed potatoes served with the main course of spare ribs. The spare ribs were small, but tender and pretty decent tasting. We ended with some dry, heart shaped brownies for dessert. Excluding the price of the wine, this cost the two of us $ 150 for the food alone, before tip! We feel completely ripped off and sadly will probably never return to this restaurant to see how their regular menu compares.

One of the things that I like most about Logan is the service. The service here is amazing. I guess that’s expected with a high-end restaurant but the servers here are great. One of the reasons why it’s one of the only restaurants on my list that get’s 5 stars. Some Unilocalers have mentioned being disappointed by the food here but I’ve been here twice and both times I’ve loved the food. Here’s what I had: — Pork Dumplings — Logan Salad –Herbed Goat Cheese Ravioli –Wild Boar Bolognese –Thai Scallops –Oven Roasted Asparagus I loved the Goat Cheese ravioli. It’s definitely worth cheating on my dairy free diet to eat. I also like the Wild Boar Bolognese even though I was skeptical about trying it. I didn’t think the Thai Scallops were as good as some of the other Unilocalers had mentioned but my standards for scallops are pretty high. I really enjoy the balance of flavors that Logan has to offer. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone visiting/living in Ann Arbor.

Had the lamb and my boyfriend had the red fish. Both were great, but the lamb stood out. Would recommend to others but not sure if I would come back because of the price, but really good for an event.

Walking into Logan made me feel like I stepped back in time… and not in a good way. They opened in the early 2000s and have, clearly, stayed there. I’ll start with the good: Staff was pleasant and welcoming when we arrived, the wine selection was great and almost every dish was ‘good’. But that’s where it ends. Room for major improvement: At $ 65/person for the tasting menu(which we almost always choose at restaurants that offer), we left very disappointed. There is a certain expectation at that price-point and Logan fell short. The biggest offense of the meal was that there were five courses, of which the two major meat dishes(fried fish and short ribs) had IDENTICAL sauce and garnishes. Both were(overly doused) with a coconut milk/curry thai sauce, garnished with a slaw, peanuts and cilantro. For two out of five courses to be almost identical, aside from the type of meat, makes the idea of a tasting menu utterly pointless. I hope the chef will read this and make an adjustment for future patrons who choose the tasting menu. It is also amusing to think that they served a ‘palate cleanser’ between these dishes — the entire point of a palate cleanser is to eliminate competing flavors between courses… trust me, there was no competition of flavors. The other dishes were ‘good’ but not memorable or inventive in any way. The dessert was a major dud, unfortunately. I can choke down almost any dessert you put in front of me, but this just wasn’t worth it. Lastly, another part of the fine dining experience that is expected at this price is the pacing and ambiance. I know this seems nit-picky, but the white tablecloths were so wrinkled and creased it defeated the entire purpose — just use a nice wood table if you’re not going to take the time to have them properly pressed. Also, battery operated tea lights? Come on — splurge a little. The pacing was so off we almost asked for our bill after the second course — we waited a good 30 min for the palate cleanser to come out and then another 20 min before the third course came out — too long and not good enough food to hold our attention. Needless to say, we will not be coming back and will not recommend Logan to others until they make some major improvements.

Came here for restaurant week. Lovely atmosphere and great food. However, the serving sizes were tiny and my party left feeling pretty hungry. Nonetheless, we still enjoyed our meal and the menu offerings. The ceviche I ordered as the appetizer was fresh and tangy, just like something I would expect out of a seaside restaurant. Really enjoyed the carrot salad as well, which was bursting in flavor and had a mild, nutty crunch from the pine nuts. Lastly, the short ribs for the 3rd course were beautifully presented. It was topped with vibrant purple cabbage and sat on a bed of mashed potatoes with a Thai coconut gravy. I was a bit hesitant about the gravy at first, but the flavor was subtle and still supplied an interesting twist to a classic dish.

Simply put, you have to go… you just have to! Probably my favorite Ann Arbor to date! I was being treated for my birthday by my dad and was told I could pick any restaurant I wanted to. What a decision, right? I scanned my never-ending, ever-growing list of restaurants to try in the area. Logan came highly recommended by several people on various occasions. I also wanted to try Aventura so it was between the two. I quickly went to Unilocal for assistance. Upon reading the reviews, both seemed like good options but Aventura seemed like a better experience to go with a larger group. Also, the idea of Chef Thad’s blind tasting and Kevin’s pairing wine flight is what sealed the deal for me, so Logan it was. Boy, am I glad I chose Logan. It was amazing! I’m a very adventurous eater so I’ll try anything twice. On top of that, it takes me forever to chose what I’m going to order. I literally study menus. :-) The idea of not having to choose myself really appealed to me. And so it began. Just when I thought it couldn’t, each course got better than the last. It started with a cucumber salad with a tangy dressing and microgreens. Next was a Chilean sea scallop with a sesame and black tea spaetzle. This definitely had a kick at the end, I’m guessing this was from the Moroccan spices. After that was duck mousseline dumplings with a shredded papaya salad with peanuts and red peppers. This was so good — like a flavor explosion in your mouth. After that, we had an intermezzo of grapefruit sorbet with red Himalayan sea salt — a simple, refreshing way to reset the palate. Next was a pesto gnocchi with pistachios and Parmesan cheese — delicious! The main course was a New York strip steak with asparagus, red bell peppers, and a spicy hoisin sauce topped with blanched avocados. That dish was almost too pretty to eat… almost. For dessert, we topped off dinner with a chocolate mousse in ganache with a pistachio crumb topping and cream served with fresh berries. It was so rich and decadent, I could finish it all. As a side note, we were served biscuits and butter. This was my least favorite thing I ate. It looked like a biscuit and tasted like cornbread. I guess I was just expecting more flavor. The wine flight was delicious as well. It consisted of a 2013 French Rose, 2012 German Riesling, 2012 Spanish Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc blend, and a 2011 Grenache California red wine. The service was impeccable. Our waitress was knowledgeable about each dish and every single wine. It was truly a wonderful evening of excellent food, awesome service, and good company. What more can you really ask for. It is definitely on the pricey side but worth every penny for a special occasion and memorable evening. Just do it and trust me, you’ll thank me later.

My wife and I went here two weeks ago for my birthday, having heard many good things about the place. The atmosphere gave me a good feeling about the night from the minute we walked in – intimate but not cramped, lighting subdued but not so much the place felt crypt-like, walls solid colored and bright, yet soft on the eyes, something that seemed both soothing and inspiriting. I did start to have some doubts when, shortly after we were seated, the waiter brought an amuse-bouche of curried ground lamb, which was strikingly bland. If you told me it was(not particularly savory) ground lamb in tomato sauce, I’d have believed you. Fortunately, the evening was all uphill from there. Despite the initial lamb letdown, I ordered the Greek lamb leg steak. Excellent! I ordered it medium rare and that’s how it came, tending a little toward rare actually, which was fine with me. Juicy, tender, with flavor that unfolded slowly and lingered – you almost hated to swallow. My wife ordered the Moroccan hen, which she liked very much. The bite she gave me seemed a little dry, but I still wouldn’t have been unhappy ordering it myself. The flavor was good, with subtle but very present and well mingled notes of herbs and spices. One thing that tells me a lot about a restaurant is the quality of the sides. At too many places, even fine dining establishments, they’re an afterthought: soggy steamed vegetables or a nondescript pilaf, offered perhaps more out of obligation than an effort to please. The celery root/cauliflower purée on the side of my lamb would have been worth ordering itself. The yogurt sauce intended for the lamb was delicious both stirred into the purée and slathered on the meat. No complaints about the service. Our waiter was welcoming, present when we needed him, but never intrusive. Though there were people with reservations waiting as we ended our meal, he encouraged us to take our time finishing our wine. Which we did. Got out for a little over $ 100 for two entrees, two salads, two glasses of wine and tip. Not something we can afford often, but I would sooner pay that again than return to places where we’ve had mediocre meals for half the price. Logan may become our go-to for special occasion dinners.

After a long day of meetings on campus, we were ready for a nice dinner out! For anyone else from out of town who is leery of tight parallel parking, there are plentiful garage spots nearby for just a few dollars. Service was excellent! We were seated right at the time of our reservation, and the hostess quickly offered to hang our coats for us. We were offered complimentary tasting portions of a tomato soup which was delicious and so welcome after coming in from the cold! Our server was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was wonderful! We both had salads to start. I opted for the Logan which came with crispy garlic slices. Definitely a nice start to the meal, but the entrees stole the show! I had the lamb which was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The celery root purée and roasted cauliflower were wonderful! The yogurt sauce complemented nicely. Fresh, warm biscuits arrived shortly after the entrees as another nice extra treat! It was so hard to choose a dessert. Everything sounded so good. I opted for the chocolate brownie with bacon pistachio ice cream and peanut brittle. Wow that was good. The bacon was not overpowering, but just gave a nice smoky hint to the ice cream. Prices were very reasonable for the quality of food. This is a great spot! I’d recommend reservations. Most tables were filled on a mid-week night!

This was the restaurant I was most looking forward to and most disappointed with during our trip to Ann Arbor. The fennel salad came warm as if sitting out for a long period of time and the garlic chips on the Logan salad tasted like burnt bitter kettle chips. The gnocchi were giant and very heavy. My partners stomach was upset after eating them. The pork tenderloin(best thing of the night) was cooked perfectly but then sliced making it dry by the time we received it. Everything was very reminiscent of the late 80’s early 90’s dining but not in an ironic hipster fashion. Service I guess you could call it that. Was good when our waitress was around but she kept disappearing for long periods of time. The restaurant itself was well kept but for the life of me I don’t understand how they could only have one bathroom? Makes for a little awkward moment when you exchange glances with people waiting outside the door as you come out. One last thing to the owner. If your staff are going to impersonate pedestrians passing on the sidewalk they shouldn’t do it in front of your establishment in plain view of your patrons sitting in the front window. I get it sucks to have to deal with an influx of tourists during special events but they’re spending good money in your small town. Appreciate the added business. There are many other great places in Ann Arbor with great people working there. Try one of them instead.

If it has been awhile or you are newbie to Logan’s — get there! I just read on the restaurant blog that they are adding to the menu and my hubs will be happy to try the new New York strip. Chef Thad’s inventive and delectable dishes will have you wondering how he does it; with simple, fresh ingredients and twists on dishes you could only wish you could pull off at home. This is New American, not your mama’s home cooking, even on her best day. The wine list is extensive but if you are easily overwhelmed, Kevin is there to help. Craft cocktails from the full bar or a bourbon flight will never disappoint. Our favorites — Thai Scallops, Bourbon pork tenderloin(it doesn’t taste like alcohol), potato pave, seasonal gnocchi for appetizer and classic Logan salad. For dessert — what I like to call Death By Chocolate ball. Chocolate mousse in ganache with pistachio cream. why not just go for it. That dessert is so good. Join their mailing list for monthly happenings and you might find a coupon for a free appetizer on your next visit that doesn’t expire until June. Call for reservations — this place is popular and I might beat you to reserve the their last table. Ready, Set, Opentable!

Definitely one of Anne Arbor’s hidden gems, Logan is tucked away between a key shop and Frita Batidos. I never would have noticed it if I had not heard the raving reviews from my friends who discovered if before me. Logan’s food is fantastic, and while the menu is small there is a nice variety to choose from. The chef sends out an amuse-bouche first thing to get you excited… It works. I love food presents. The quality, creativity and ingredients are set to very high standards. Everything was great but we loved the goat cheese ravioli the most and I could have traded the crab avocado salad for something else(it’s a texture thing). Dinner portions were perfect and the food was too good not to finish, which means no room for dessert… But I have a feeling we will be back. The staff was super accommodating — the hostesses were amazing from booking our reservation to selecting a table and helping with coats. Our server was pleasant, warm, knowledgeable and treated us like friends, which I like.(The atmosphere and food could easily lend itself to more pretentious service.) Mixed feelings on the sommelier — he was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, and VERY excited to help. However he dismissed the selections we were considering in favor if wine he wanted us to have, and we didn’t seem to have a say in the matter. He also decided to bring us additional wine that we did not order and charged us for one of the two glasses. I think he was«helping» but it’s just not my jam. My only real knock is the price. Our bill racked up fast, and while this is one of the nicest places to eat in Ann Arbor, we’re still in Wolverine town…
