One One Nine

I’m always skeptical about new stylists, as it’s easy to get one who wants to do something too trendy and doesn’t listen carefully to you. But I was very pleased with the cut Lori gave me at One One Nine! She understood exactly what I was going for, and played on the safe side when cutting my hair into a lob by starting long and trimming as I decided, which I really appreciated. I was pleasantly surprised how much I loved my cut, even the next day when I styled it myself. Love their products, too. Will definitely be back!

I’ve taken my daughter to the stylists who are at One One Nine salon for years, first when they were at Salon Vox and now at One One Nine. We love the stylists — they’re skilled and thoughtful, caring people. Unfortunately, the last time we were in for an appointment, I was charged $ 40 for my daughter’s hair cut even though it had always been $ 25 before and their sister salon (Trichio) had just told me that the price for kids under 12 is $ 25. When I called One One Nine for an appointment today, I mentioned this and the receptionist said that it was probably $ 40 because the stylist chose to charge that and that this can be the case for kids over 10 years old (my daughter is 11). He didn’t offer to match us with another stylist. He was completely disinterested and ended the conversation without us making an appointment. My family has been going to Amanda and Kate for five years and it was disappointing to be dismissed like this. This is no indictment on the stylists — they’re great! — but of the service provided by the receptionist who’s representing the salon.

Great experience! I recently relocated to Ann Arbor from the DC area and was in desperate need of finding a salon in town. I have had my fair share of salon nightmares and am super picky when it comes to finding a new stylist. I couldn’t help but notice the positive reviews for this salon, so I called on a Saturday morning and was able to book a same day appointment with Brandon. I had a full highlight and cut. My experience from start to finish was fantastic! From reception, to the consult, and then the finished product – everything was great! The salon is super clean and you can tell that the staff and stylists truly care about the success of their salon. To me, that speaks volumes! For anyone out there looking for a new salon, this is it! My service was about two weeks ago and I couldn’t help but feel guilty that I hadn’t taken the time to write a review – these guys definitely deserve it! I booked my next appointment before I even left! :)

Really nice new option for a salon downtown. The ambiance is chic and everyone was friendly. I just tried their nail services, and went with a gel manicure. The experience was great, everything was totally clean, and I’m super happy with the final result of my nails. Going back again tomorrow for a haircut. Sounds like only cash or debit gratuities accepted for now.

Absolutely a must go to if you need a hair cut or a total hair style make over. The staff is terrific especially the girl working the receptionist stand. I heard great things about Sam and I booked an appointment with her. I showed her a picture of what I wanted. I told her she can put her artistic talent to work and do the best she can. She looked at my picture twice and absolutely nailed it. I couldn’t be any more happy with the end results. Exactly what I wanted thank you so much again.

This place is terrific and should become the primary go to salon in Ann Arbor and here’s why: the folks here are the opposite of pretentious. Unlike a lot of places, they don’t make you feel lame in the LEAST. They are open, friendly, kind and humorous even though they are also stylish. You don’t have to be a snob to be stylish, apparently. So it is very welcoming. They are also very creative and open to co-​creating what you want. They can do it all and really cater to your vision even when your not sure what it is. I’ve had places get annoyed when I can’t describe what I want. Here, they just talk it through with you until you find it. The atmosphere is also kind of homey instead of all sterile like a sci-​fi movie. People are talking and laughing and you don’t feel judged. I’ve had stuff done by Chris and Justin and they are both marvelous, tremendous stylists. So sweet and open and skilled. They didn’t make me feel rushed at all and made sure I got what I wanted. Justin colored my hair for the first time in my life and kind of guided me through the transition. He even stayed late to do it. Chris also made me feel at home with who I am and helped me feel pretty. The people at the front desk are also just super welcoming. And it’s also very affordable. Basically, you are getting professional, high high quality stylists in a non-​pretentious, friendly atmosphere at an affordable price. Maybe I sound like I work there, but I assure you, this was my actual experience. Many of you may know that these are a lot of the people who left Vox and decided to start their own place in their own image, and they’ve done it. So you get the best stylists in Ann Arbor in a colorful, easygoing setting. I highly recommend it. Just don’t drive the prices up too fast!!!

I came here a few weeks ago and got super lucky, as I made a SAME-​day appointment the Sunday of Labor Day weekend! Kate was my stylist and she was absolutely amazing! Kate was very professional, positive and fun! I felt horrible booking an appointment at 4pm on a holiday weekend but she was VERY sweet and didn’t seem to mind working later than probably anticipated. I recently moved to Ann Arbor so this was my first haircut experience in the area. I absolutely will come back to her for my next haircut! :)
I highly recommend coming to this beautiful salon. It’s located right next to Frita Batidos and there’s ample street parking nearby. Prices are comparable to cities like Chicago… so I would budget around ~$ 50 for a haircut. So worth it, as the ambience was comfortable and the staff are super nice!
