Excellent sushi. I had the sushi lunch and the quality of the fish and roll preparation was very good and fast. I eat a lot of sushi and really enjoyed it.

Went for restaurant week, and did the 2 for $ 28 which gave 2 apps to split, soup or salad for each person, an entrée(three options– I got the sushi one), and mochi ice cream. When we first sat down, the table had not been cleared completely from the last people there, and though the server picked up the items from the table, it was not wiped down at all and I had to brush off food remnants myself. The food came out fast which was nice, and everything was very good, especially the agedashi tofu and vegetable skewer. Our food was served out of order though; we got entrees before our appetizers and the entrees were brought out about 5 minutes apart which was kind of awkward. The servers were all attentive and friendly, although it seemed quite unorganized and they brought us someone else’s meal accidentally. A nice perk is that they give you hot green tea on the house!

So I guess Nagomi decided to take on Miki, Mélange, Slurping Turtle, Tomukun Noodle Bar &BBQ, Totoro and Miya restaurants all at once by opening up their downtown location. Did a quick google search on restaurants that served sushi near Nagomi and found six restaurants near by… What Nagomi offers, you can find a mixture of items from those six restaurants… what sets apart Nagomi from others is their offerings of Skewers. Since the owners are Korean, they do offer some Korean dishes, so I put Tomukun BBQ in the mix. Will they be successful in downtown? One thing for sure, only time will tell. So I avoided going there after they opened, in hopes that they would work out all their operational issues… based upon some of the review, looks like their had some staffing level issue and knowledge of the food by their wait staff. I took my nephew who was visiting for MLK day and it just happened to be Restaurant week… we walked in and was greet and told to find table any where. When we got there, two other tables were occupied. We sat down and waited for few minutes… the waiter brought us the menu and a bottle of water… waiter came back after five minutes and took our order. We went with the following items: Me — Course A(Salad, Shrimp Shumai, Pork Belly and Sashimi) and deluxe sushi combo(11 sushi and six rolls) Nephew — Course C(Salad, Ann Arbor Roll, Pork Belly and Shoyu Ramen) Ok, typically I would describe how each dishes were, etc., but I’ll try to describe things in groups… — Ordering from the Restaurant Week Menu — When I ordered Course A, I forgot to make a selection in one area, but they made the selection for me. Never came back to confirm with me what option I wanted, which was disappointing. — Prices, I agree with Seyad C., the prices on their website vs. their menu are different; higher at the restaurant and they will charge you the higher price! — Rolls — decent… I hate to say it, but rolls offered from Sushi Town were on equal level and/or better, depending on what you ordered. — Sashimi — fish quality is lacking… you can definitely tell that its lower grade… I don’t know if this was because it was restaurant week or not… but I hope they work on the quality of their fish(and since it was restaurant week, one would think they would offer higher quality fish!) — Ramen — Shoyu Ramen was bland, but they gave you a regular size bowl with the restaurant week menu… based upon the size of the ramen, rolls and pork belly, selecting Course C would be the wise choice. — Wait Staff Knowledge — you can tell that they are still learning… It’s hard to learn all those menu items, what’s in them, how they taste, etc., and I wish them all the best as they continue to learn. — Kitchen Operations — very disorganized. When the foods came out, the waiters didn’t know which tables the food went to, which food items were part of what course from the restaurant menu… these things should have been taken care of by training the staff members and ensure that they were on top of their game when assisting customers and taking orders. I over heard the waiter asking which dish went with what course, not something you want to keep on hearing over and over again as each dish came out. — Front of the Hall Operations — The menu was incomplete with lot of missing pages… the menu holder is too big for all the menu pages they had(which wasn’t much). Remember when we ordered our food and we had asked for cups? The waiter forgot… had to wait another 15 minutes before asking another waiter for cups and he finally brought it out. As the waiter brought the cups out to me, I was told that they were busy for lunch and that they haven’t had time to reset the tables… I did noticed that some of the tables had empty cups and soy sauce plates, which our table did not. Overall, the staff members needs retraining, operations from the back to the front needs to be addressed and I just hope that next time I decide to stop by, all those will have been addressed. Also, please update the prices either on the menu or the website as they are different.

My first review on Unilocal, and unfortunately it is not a good one. I went to Nagomi sushi yesterday with the SO who had never tried sushi. I had heard great things about the Nagomi on Plymouth and decided to give the new location a try and introduce my guy to sushi. Upon first entering the restaurant the atmosphere is quiet, modern and nicely dim. It is a very beautiful layout with a nice view into the kitchen. I was told I could sit anywhere so I chose a table by the window and was greeted by my server who was very sweet. While waiting for my date to arrive I looked over the menu, saw some familiar maki and some I was excited to try. I asked my waitress if their«Michigan» roll(spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, avocado, eel and eel sauce) was just a dragon roll with spicy tuna. She said she didn’t know what a dragon roll was or if that was indeed the case. Not a big deal, I eat a lot of sushi and worked in a sushi place for a long time so I figured my guess was probably right. When my date arrived we ordered 3 rolls: a spicy tuna(which surprisingly had avocado in it), a salmon avocado and a dragon roll. The rolls arrived fairly quickly and looked nice; however, my very first bite contained a quite hard piece of bone in it. My SO ended up not being a fan so I ate the majority of the rolls, but couldn’t get past that first bite. The quality of the rolls over all was quite disappointing. They were loosely rolled so the contents was almost slipping out, the rice was patchy and the rolls were cut to varying lengths. I am not a sushi expert by any means, however the low quality of these rolls was something I easily recognized. Quite disappointed with my visit to Nagomi sushi and that this was the first experience with sushi my SO had. I do not believe I will return in the future.

Newly opened! I came in for the soft opening without knowing. Very cute place. I had the udon special, tuna roll and yellowtail. The tuna and the yellowtail were very good! They melted in my mouth. The best part was the rice, it was seasoned very well. My only knock down was the service. They only had one waitress on staff. Although they did know the problem and many times tried to fix it. This place is new so I’m hopeful that their service will get better. Overall it is worth coming in and trying it for yourself. They have skewers by the stick which looked awesome! Sushi was great.

I used to eat at Nagomi in North campus, which is a beautiful place with good food. However, the new-open place in downtown cannot be compared with the north campus one. The food itself is awesome, I love all of them. However, the portion is too small for a student and the service is bad. The staff there are not responsive at all. Think they need more speedy and responsible waiters to help them build up the reputation.
